As a non-Democrat leftist, I still think the electoral college should be abolished. It is inherently anti-democratic.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm a Canadian, but was rooting for Obama to win it. That being said, I'd rather presidents were chosen based on popular vote, not the electoral college. After all, if this is how America worked, Bush Jr. would have never made it to the white house back in 2000.

Back between 2000 - 2004, I remember a lot of armchair pundits on internet forums telling democrats to quit whining about Gore's loss, saying "America isn't a democracy, it's a republic!"

As a guy who voted for Johnson and thinks the electoral college is a complete and utter joke that should be abolished, I would like to hear some opinions. I'm not trying to kick any hornets nests or cry bitter tears, I did not expect my guy to win in a million years, but I am genuinely curious.

I'm not American but I will chime in that the electoral college system is an absolute fallacy no matter which party comes out on the winning end of it. Especially when inevitably every election is decided by Florida and Ohio without fail.

It's an antiquated system and needs to be done away with. I explained earlier tonight why it won't be... both political parties like it this way because they can consolidate their cash and resources to the battlegrounds and ignore the rest of the country. But Jesse Ventura was right on the money when he said proportional representation was the way to go.

He was right on the money about a lot of other stuff, too.
