While I'm glad Obama took the popular vote as well, part of me was hoping he didn't, if only to see the same talking heads on the right who claimed the popular vote didn't matter in 2000 do a 180 and scream their heads off about how much the popular vote matters.

You must've missed Trump's Twitter tirade about that, when Obama was behind in the pop vote. He deleted the Tweets since then, but they were saved in image form.

Free speech etc. There is not, nor should there ever be a law forbidding people from "being racist" or "saying racist things". Hate speech, inciting to violence etc is already covered by laws, you don't need to make extra ones specific to racism. This is that uncomfortable zone where in order to actually be pro-freedom (in the unironic sense) you also have to defend things that are ugly and clearly wrong.

Um, when the first amendment was drafted slavery/segregation was live, well and legal. Of course there needed to be laws forbidding people from "being racist" and/or "saying racist things"

Did you grow up in an alternate universe?

Okay, so you go on and get some sleep and then fill us all in on 1) why none of that worked in the long term, 2) why it's still a feasible plan, and 3) how it possibly gives anybody any buying power to make a difference outside of the already rich.

Also, Bush Sr. called the whole scheme "Voo-Doo Economics" when running against Reagan. Don't forget that that one.

I'm aware.

Here's some reading on the topic.

More than any other result from yesterday, this is one I care about. I'd LOVE to see her lose.

Doesn't look like that will happen though. :/

They've done their 180s plenty of times during the campaign.

The fuck are you talking about? There shouldn't be laws forbidding it because it shouldn't be illegal. You seem to be a little bit confused here.

Did you grow up in an alternate universe?

Yes, it's called Australia, where we're racist against Lebanese people and East Asians primarily.

Oh, Thomas Sowell? The economist who won the Godwin Award for linking Obama to Hitler? Yeah, I'm going to read what he has to say, because that's definitely going to be worth my time. Gonna read the shit out of that, for sure.

Obviously a comment about Hitler discounts everything he's learned over decades of researching and teaching economics, especially when he's empirically demonstrating the dynamics of lower taxation.

Read it. You'll learn something.

Comparing a person to Hitler automatically retcons everything you have ever done, because that one time you compare a person to Hitler, you're actually coming out as a complete and total dumbass.

The fuck are you talking about? Why should racism be legal?

Because you cannot and should not legislate against expressions of people's thoughts, ideas, feelings and opinions, except in special circumstances (the aforementioned hate speech, shouting 'fire' in crowded theaters and so on). This includes things you find offensive, such as racism, sexism, and enjoying Big Bang Theory.

N.B. it's 2am in the alternate universe and I'm sleeping now.

Tell me why it is wrong to assume that the buying power of Americans lead to the most prosperous period in our history. More to the point - why should a business hire people when nobody is showing up to buy anything in the first place? Explain that, and please don't point me to another bloody PDF file or website.

It's hard for me to enjoy that as much as other races because Scott Brown actually seems decent. I hope his life in public service is not over.

The disrespectful and nasty campaign he ran here turned me off in addition to the policy positions I disagreed with him on. But you can certainly say he isn't as batshit insane as many Republicans. He ultimately aligns with them on nearly everything though (even though he'll try to convince you otherwise), which is why I'm happy to see Warren win.

lol

Maybe you should specify and say prejudice.

Now that the aftermath is settled, I'm hopeful that Obama has good old Bill on the phone to try and find out how he greased the wheels for bipartisanship on his 2nd term.

In another note, Karl Rove's meltdown on TV was glorious. I now know what it looks like when someone blows a quarter billion dollars.

I doubt he's out a quarter mil, like they say, you gotta spend money to make money and Rove knows how to spend money right. There has to be some kind of ROI for all those attack ads.

Really hope we at least have some moderate Republicans to get Immigration reform passed.
But salty fuckers will probably block any bill just because evil commie Obama is president.
