United States Election: Nov 6, 2012 |OT| - Barack Obama Re-elected

Fun fact: Victoria Jackson is a big Book of Eli fan and friended me on Facebook after it came out and sent me lots of nice messages. Seemed innocent enough at first, I thought it was cool because I only knew her from SNL. Then it soon became apparent what a nutjob she has become since and in the end I had to block her.

I became aware of her antics when my mother in law told me about her anti-obama songs....

I was in disbelief, Victoria Jackson? the blonde from SNL?

Then I googled her videos... and it was surreal.

Glenn Beck is going full on preacher mode, no clue what he's talking about all I hear is "Liberty, courage, spiritual awakening" etc..

Instead he tried too hard to pander to the tea party vote which he would have gotten regardless seeing how they actually despise Obama. And as a result came across as very flop flop on important issues such as women's right.

The nominating process was fucked. The only way Romney managed to win that was by flip flopping and trying to dress up as a "severe" conservative or whatever he said. I mean, Rick Santorum was seriously a possibility as the nominee. Rick Santorum.

The Republicans really just needed better, less nutty and more likeable candidates. But most of those people are holding out until 2016 so they don't have to face Obama.

bitch I'm taking calls.
Us educated, sexy liberal Hispanics in Texas need to continue to do our part by making oh-so-sweet love and educating our kids properly so we will contribute to Texas becoming a glorious swing-state in the future.
Can I volunteer to help with this effort wholeheartedly and just send the kids to be raised by you?

Nah. If anything, Bill makes her more likable as a candidate. Nobody still cares about the Lewinsky crap. She would have won in '08 if Obama hadn't been there.

To some. To me its a negative. Might not be a majority opinion but I find her sticking with a sham marriage for political gain kinda unflattering.

And to some, having Billy in as First Man (?) in the White House again would be enough to vote for her alone.

The issue the Republicans have is that this was their last bet shot to win with their current makeup and strategy. The demographics only get worse from here. They will never get better.

Ignore the pundits and morons calling for doubling down, the future of the GOP will be in concession and pulling back from the extreme right. They will have to let immigration go, for example. That's done.

Americans in the future will be thankfull of Obama when his health reform comes into full effect (2014) and realise that they made the right choice in 2012.
If it is a success, Obama will join FDR and LBJ in the list of great social reformers.
Republicans will regret the day that they coined it as " Obamacare"

And honestly, if that's what the Republican party is today, then I want it to lose.

No tears, no crying from me since I predicted an Obama win by a fairly large margin. I'm just saying, as a Republican, I recognize all of this and more people leaning my way need to wake up and realize it as well.

This country, it is a changin'.

Repubs like you are who need to take control of the party. Bring out moderate Repubs (like Mitt was as a Gov), and the changing demographics won't be so scary for you. In fact, I'll vote for a Repub again (I'm 4-0 in prez elections) if there are moderate candidates.

But as long as you have attitudes like this in the GOP:

From my perspective as a libertarianish conservative, I'm pretty much at the point that I don't care what the GOP does anymore. They aren't nearly fiscally conservative enough, and the nation is on a crash-course with bankruptcy. I am 100% concerned with the economy right now, and people like Akin are just royal pains in the ass.

The collapse is coming, and it didn't matter who we elected. All the election did was determine at what pace we're going to go flying over the cliff.
Not surprising. Government is their sugar daddy.

...it's going to be a tough road to the White House

Keep 'em on the AM dial. Fine with me.

The conservative propaganda radio stations are quickly moving over the FM dial. At least here in her FL they are

Okay, Obama. Your 4 year campaign for a second term is over. Could you please get the hard-to-do tough love issues confronted now that no other president had the balls to confront? Please. War complex. Wage disparity. Health Care costs. Social Security. Competing in a global workforce. Environment. Change. Hope. Go. Now.

This. I hope he goes nuts and just gets shit done. But I doubt it. I assume he wants to stay in politics after his term is over so he doesn't want to burn any bridges.

How fucking weird would that be if he were sleeping in the WH again...but not the pres? It would be awesome, but just completely unprecedented.

Think you're the first reasonable republican I've seen without so much bigotry and with actual logic. Kudos! I would like to see the republicans pull from this extreme far right.

Thank you. I have been a member here for years. Over that period of time, I have been almost afraid to ever post that I lean to the right. Being from SC, a Reagan baby really, it is in me and that likely will never change.

This election cycle however I noticed an even higher amount of, well, what seemed to be pure hate aimed at my side. I get it, I do, but not all of us deserve that. I want everyone here to know that not everyone on this side are as you think they are, not even close. It's partially why Obama won quite handily this time. Even my parents, on my side as well, voted for Obama this year.

Yes, there are idiots on my side, there are idiots on both sides, but we are not all like that over here. Trust me, I know that for a fact. I'm sick of the hatred, the pure venom, from both sides. It makes me sick.

GOP has some decent candidates for 2016. It's too bad they ran Romney out as a sacrificial lamb.

Christie, Rubio, and Condi Rice (I know for some reason people think she won't run, but her last speech sounded differently) would all be tough to beat.

Ryan, Nikki Haley and Tim Renown could be backup choices.

I'm trying to think who the dems would run out. Hillary obviously comes to mind. You can't prop up the SA mayor.

Biden? Cuomo? Schweitzer? O'Malley/Carcetti? There are some choices out there.

Condi is a non-starter with her views on abortion and Christie is a RINO now, right? How is he gonna make it past the primary? And Rubio/Haley aren't too exciting to anyone but their own party. And Ryan? Really? No... It won't matter who they pick as long as that base exists because they will only shift more and more right as their demographics shrink.

As long as the party platform stays where it is, the GOP will be hard pressed to find less nutty and more likable candidates. (At least likable to GAF).

Alright I'm here for my public flogging. Apparently I've been made a junior member again... fun. I hope you guys hold Barack's feet to the fire on actually getting the house and the senate to do something in the next 4 years, otherwise it's going to be a long 4 years.

Hopefully by 2014 the Republican party will have completely imploded, and big business will put the rest of their eggs into the Democrat basket pushing them further right.

Then we can have a viable green/socialist party to fill in for the left, as the new "Democrats".

Most likely we'll see big business pushing hard for Libs though. What a nightmare that would be if all the corporations started pouring their money into Randites.

I actually have a hard time wrapping my head around why they didn't start doing that a decade ago. If there is any true "party of business", it's the Randites.

Have some olives today to replenish your sodium.

I'm in Pennsylvania and my favorite part of yesterday was going to the polls and just saying "No" when asked for my ID. The poll worker said "What? Really? Oh..." They gave me a little prepared paper on how to get an ID to vote, handed me my ballot and let me go cast my vote.

For some reason it felt good.

Edit: Also there was about 4 poll watchers eyeing everything very closely. First time I noticed that (This is in Tredyffrin Township, Eastern Chester County). Also our township had an estimated 75-90% turnout.

How do you plan on making it through four years of socialism?

Unfortunately the President cannot force the House of Representatives to cooperate with him on anything, but it really is in the Republican's best interest to start appearing more conciliatory so that congress can pull ahead of Small Pox in the likeability range.

Man so much good stuff happened last night. Is it too early to call this a wave election for the left? Congress notwithstanding.

What do you mean, notwithstanding? Democrats won seats in both chambers. It was absolutely a wave. If the redistricting in the House had been nonpartisan the Dems would have picked up another dozen seats, probably. It just wasn't a big enough wave to take the House all at once.

I think the nation has spoken on who's on the wrong side and who should be held accountable. If W was able to call mandate with a lower margin on 2004 I think that Obama has a bigger mandate for less opposition from the house.

I'm begging the president to grow more balls now that he doesn't have to worry about re-election.

The momentum of Tea Party backlash is going to carry into 2014 and I fully expect the House will be Democratic again for the final 2 years of Bams term.

It wasn't always like this. There was a time when there were Liberal Republicans and Conservative Democrats as well as Moderates from both parties. They all were able to keep things manageable across the aisle. It wasn't always this black and white and it doesn't need to remain this way. Personally, I hope we can get back to that, because it better represents reality for the people who have to deal with the consequences of politics.

Most people in this country want the 1% taxes to be raised. Most people know that tax raises, period, are needed to balance the budget and it can't be done with cuts alone. Independent commissions have said as much as well.

The question is, will Republicans finally concede this bullshit to get some movement going? Democrats want taxes raised for the well off, and Republicans want cuts, but it seems like Republicans have no intention of making that agreement. How the hell are you supposed to agree on something when the other side isn't willing to meet you anywhere close to half way?

I swear, we need to use the Judicial branch to have some sort of mock arbitration to get an agreement to find the middle ground. Seriously, that's what it's going to take - this budget crap needs to be treated like an agreement in a civil case.

Obama can cut one ad in 2014 and run it in every district.

"Obamacare just eliminated annual caps, charging more for preexisting conditions, and got you a big subsidy to buy your own insurance on the exchange.

"Your Republican representative didn't just vote against Obamacare, they voted to repeal it. 38 times. Instead of passing laws to help you.

"How do you feel about that?"

Republicans need to pull away from the social issues. Why even consider anything possibly legitimate about what you have to say on free enterprise, losing the entreprenuerial spirit, the Libyan ambassador, government regulation placing unnecessary burdens on small businesses, spending too much on social programs, e.t.c. when your views on abortion, gay rights, and the like are archaic and frankly insulting?

Disowning the tea partiers and bible thumpers is worth owning more moderates. The extremists are loud and the ones that will actually go out and march but as this election has shown the loud ones are not necessarily the majority. The tea partiers and bible thumpers will likely still vote for you anyway. It would be fucking nice for my two choices to not come down to which party is more likely to acknowledge evolution and for it to come down to actual issues.

I'm not counting out some rebranding of the Tea Party as some "brand new, grassroots wave" of supposedly newly invigorated constituents that claim to be the sleeping giant that Obama's reelection awoke. Mind you, if the turnout for 2014 is similar to last night, then I doubt it. However, midterms just don't turn out the vote like presidential races.

Listening to right-wing talk radio. It's really amazing how seamlessly Glenn Beck can segue from a seemingly sincere political monologue into trying to scam you into buying gold.

Fuck that noise man. You were convicted, and you have the temerity to show your face. Unlike the rest of your friends. I vote you should be put back to member status, unless you some how went insane with some comment or something?

I respect you for continuing to post.

Presidents don't rule the country. Its what 99% of the world knows, and what America knows. Which is why no one believed Mitt Romneys bullshit except you and a few others.

Congress needs to work with Obama. That hurdle is still to be negotiated, will your salty friends keep doors closed, as they have been for the past 4 years?

This is what has me most excited. The demographics are changing in the country and it's moving to the left. Hopefully in 20 years we can look back and laugh at how the Right used to pander to the "old angry white dude" segemnt of the population.

Sooo much this. And it even seemed to just be pandering to the sad racism in everyones heart. Its no shock that all of the fallout from t his is people finally calling the man a nigger, complaining about minorities, etc. While at the same time claiming you're not racist, and its about the direction of the country. HA.
