Do the total numbers usually go up by any substantial amount in the weeks following the election as numbers finalize? I'm surprised to see voter turnout down by that much.

Washington and Oregon are all vote-by-mail, as well as a huge percentage of California. Jersey did email voting this year. The final vote numbers won't be in for months.

all happened.

The only good thing to come from the Leno show. They've gotten really good at these.

But Romney’s top aides, who only a couple of days ago were openly speculating about who would fill which jobs in a Romney administration, woke up Wednesday to face brutal recriminations.

Some top donors privately unloaded on Romney’s senior staff, describing it as a junior varsity operation that failed to adequately insulate and defend Romney through a summer of relentless attacks from the Obama campaign over his business career and personal wealth.

At the Wednesday breakfast, Romney told the donors he believed Hurricane Sandy stunted his momentum in the final week of the campaign, according to multiple donors present.

Although Romney himself stopped short of placing any blame on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who praised President Obama’s leadership during the storm, several Romney supporters privately pointed fingers at the outspoken governor.

“A lot of people feel like Christie hurt, that we definitely lost four or five points between the storm and Chris Christie giving Obama a chance to be bigger than life,” said one of Romney’s biggest fundraisers, who requested anonymity to speak candidly.

"Yeah, we lost four to five points in that last week there that just coincidentally made it line up exactly with all the previous polling."

Chris Matthews: "If you vote for a 3rd party candidate like numbskull Gary Johnson and Jill Stein you're an idiot"

What a dumb intolerant hack.
Every FOURTH year, a new crowd comes along to hustle up money for a THIRD party the same way televangelists do for a SECOND coming, and they're the FIRST out the door with all the money. Notice that very rarely do you see third party candidates for alderman or commissioner. It is a scam, you got scammed because you think that third party candidates are somehow not politicians. Bullshit. Gary Johnson was in the first GOP primary debate. He hasn't even been a Libertarian for ONE YEAR yet.

bitch I'm taking calls.

"I only ‘unskewed’ them based on my belief that a nearly equal percentage of Democrats and Republicans would turn out in the actual election this year

"I think (Rasmussen’s) surveys have been discredited as much as mine”

“I will only ‘unskew’ any polls in the future if it is substantially unskewed,” he said.
-It's not that there were more people that wanted a Democratic result, just not as many people showed up that were supposed to

-Other people got it wrong too

-If I think the polls in the future are wrong I will still unskew them

Critical thinking, GOP style.

Man the more I think about it, this is the best I've felt politically in forever. Right-wingers got CRUSHED. Not just candidates but pollsters, pundits, those opposing progressive ballot measures... even the GOP itself now is in absolute crisis. FLAWLESS VICTORY.

This is the very thing that is wrong with politics in America. The sport-ification of politics.

Truly an exciting point in modern American politics. Maddow just hit home everything that democrats did right and everything that is wrong with the republicans. It really is simple stuff science, math, facts, and honesty prevailed at the end of the day. My first time voting and I will totally vote for the 2014 elecion to help out Bams.

I just heard Karl Rove saying that Obama won because of voter suppression and spending a lot of money.

Well, you have to wonder if Romney might have had a chance in PA if not for that Black Panther intimidating voters at that Philly station with his scare tactics like holding doors open for people.

Why are Republican talking heads sounding like they were running on a Welfare reform platform? I didn't hear it brought up before the election. They make it sound as if the only people that voted for Obama were getting some type of government handout. I feel like I am totally missing something.

Did Pat Buchannan really say that shit?

I mean, it's always been fairly obvious he was a closet racist (ok, maybe the closet door was partially open) but wow, dude just kicked the closet door right off the hinges.

Was it racism that lost him his job as a contributor on MSNBC? Haven't seen the dude on Hardball in like a year or two.

Someone please explain to me stuff like that article, in particular here's the gist of it:

And it all started on the South Side of Chicago, bro.

So, ok, if Obama was not elected or never got into politics America would not have continued becoming less religious/conservative and hispanics would not be a rising demographic? Seriously what the hell? Obama is just a visible part of changes that are happening, and of course as president he'll have his part in changing the direction of the USA, but he's mostly a result of these changes and not the other way around.

You're not missing anything. Obviously, the Republicans ran a flawless campaign with a strong candidate. It was only because of Welfare America wanting handouts that Obama won.

I think you are overstating the situation a little bit.

I think you are overstating the situation a little bit.

When taken as an entire season (one that started with the Republican primary and ended with the Elections on Nov 6th) it's actually a massive win for Democrats. From the Supreme Court decisions to the rebuking of Voter ID laws to the massive failure of Republican political pundits in accurately predicting the outcome of the election.

That's not even counting a NET GAIN in the Senate, which at the beginning of the season it was pretty much agreed that the Democrats would lose control of the Senate.
