It's annoying watching US elections here in Canada. Sucks that a decision which has a ton of global ramifications is left up to people I don't exactly trust to make a good decision.

wheeeeeeeeeee

I honestly believe they set it up like this against all reason and existing data so that when it doesn't happen, it appears to be shocking and the result of malfeasance.

I'm not going to lie - I'm a bit suspicious of most friends that make the argument "voting for independent x is like voting for enemy opposition z".

Mind pointing me to a post that explains that position?

I'll give it a shot. You come into existence on a moving train. You and the rest of the passengers can vote on whether or not the switch gets flipped that puts the train on track B. Track B leads to a cliff. Easy choice, right? Well track A leads to high-voltage electric shock that will fuck you with a vengeance for a good five minutes, but you know you will survive it.

About half the passengers would rather end it, because fuck you Ben Franklin. The other half are asking for your vote because they don't want to die.

Now, you can say "well I never asked to be on this torture/death train in the first place. I will write in my pet Corgi's name on my ballot in protest. Or I'll write in "none of the above".. or I'll write in Ron Paul who everyone else on the train is ignoring, even though he promises to get us out of there unharmed. Therefore you should vote for the shock, because it is a fact that you are either shocked or dead at the end of this experiment, regardless of what the 3rd party says or does. And therefore a no-vote, or a protest vote, gives a little more power to the fuck off and die constituency. The thought goes something like that.

BBC news just said that Romney/Ryan just sent out emails telling people to vote because there were higher than expected Democratic numbers voting.

Is that just a standard 'come on guys go vote!' email?

Yeah it's standard get out the base sort of email to get those who may be skipping to stop after work.

My decision has been made and I voted for the guy I personally liked best, regardless of political views.

I would be embarrassed to continue posting here after disrespecting the democratic precepts of our country so heinously.

I'm completely serious. What a disgusting use of a presidential vote. Might as well have voted for Batman.

He explained it by using the Pew party identification numbers (which apparently show +3% for Republicans) and then adjusting the polls (most of which have a slight Dem skew?) to match that.

Obviously brilliant analysis.

Anchor 1: Wrapping up our election night coverage, we have one of the most interesting facts of the night. Someone voted for Herman Cain in the state of Washington.

Anchor 2: That can't be right, can someone check that, please?

Anchor 1: It's been confirmed. One vote for Cain.

Anchor 2: Wow. What a night.

Wasn't sure if there was something there or if it was just a normal email.

Don't worry, I've already heard that Romney has it in the bag because there's like twice as many conservatives ready to take back their country and prove that people are the solution, while all the Obama voters are weak and listless from their government cheese and food stamp lobster and have refused to vote.

Bob Dylan finally showing a bit of partisan in him??

Here's pretty close to what I said last night in Madison. I said from the stage that we had to play better than good tonight, that the president was here today and he’s a hard act to follow. Also, that we’re not fooled by the media and we think it’s going to be a landslide. That’s pretty much all of it.

Makes sense. I mean they don't even have workboots to walk outside in.

My wife and I just registered and voted in NH for the first time. A lot of sign carrying demonstrators outside the polling area, humorously all sandwiched in the 20 feet between the "no demonstrating beyond this point" sign and the street. There was a very old guy sitting in a lawn chair with an enormous sign reading, "YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRESENT A PHOTO ID TO VOTE HERE." Awesome sign, gave him a thumbs up. That made my day. I love election day.

Lacks Big Birds subtlety.

LOL.

In my polling place the staff were overtly supporting Obama. I asked one lady about how the voter turnout was, and she basically went into a rant like "We a OBAMA voting county, NO ONE needs no Milt Rommley!"

Seem just *a tad* inappropriate... :-/

Hardly. I genuinely like Cain, which is more than I can say about any other candidate.

Plus, I still feel cheated about Obama being the first African-American president. He might have an African father, but he acts whiter than I do. And I'm white.

I think so. Third parties are locked out of the presidential debates and aren't guaranteed equal time. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.

Locked out yes, but better yet, the debates are run by the two major parties. The Commission on Presidential Debates was set up as a way for the Dems/GOP to control everything about them, from the panel, to the locations, to participants. They're essentially a sham.

The institution most likely to assist in getting non-major party messages out there to the world at large is controlled by those that have the most to lose by allowing them to participate. Not surprisingly, the 'news' media doesn't have the balls to point this out or to actually put their feet down and not participate in the charade. Both Johnson and Stein are on enough state ballots that they could (theoretically, of course) win the presidency, yet they aren't allowed to participate (nor do they get Secret Service protection, because the DHS doesn't declare them eligible)

I actually tend to agree that a ground-level grassroots effort could get more people voting Green/Libertarian, but keep in mind that until people see candidates from those parties IN THE MEDIA, they're still going to be largely regarded as also-rans. Media exposure can do *a lot*.

Report that shit bro.

There are poll workers who are getting reported and in trouble for simply explaining how the ballot works past their actual speech. Apparently after that speech they just have to say any instructions you need are on the ballot and not oh yes you fill the circle you want.

I wasn't aware that 'acting black' was part of the criteria for being a successful black president.

That's just Obama acting so he can appeal to the whites. Anyone who gave Jay Z the HOOD dap (Kind of like a universal black mans handshake) on camera INSTINCTUALLY is black and has a large penis.
