There was someone in the horrible casting choices thread who said that Roose Bolton's casting made him angry. I love Michael McElhatton as Roose, but is he considered as a bad casting choice among the more passionate book fans??

I honestly thought everyone loved him in the role, so I was a bit surprised.

He is perfect for the role if they were doing away with the pale lord/leeches traits, his cold calculating demeanor is just as I had pictured it.

Michael McElhatton is terrific. I'd replace Stannis or Jorah Mormont before I'd replace him.

glad i'm not the only one. iain glen kinda annoys me. maybe it's just how he's written on the show, he seems a lot whinier than in the books.

and the lovely Rose Leslie

but tbh I didn't really like her as ygritte. way too... clean. and that posh accent didn't help either.

Rose Leslie is so beautiful, it's going to be a sad day indeed when she leaves. First Oona then her... :(

I haven't heard much complaint. Most seen to like him a lot. He's definitely changed a lot from the book, but I think most people recognise that the whole creepy vampire schtick wasn't going to work on TV. McElhatton nails Roose, it's just a different Roose from the books.

You can't be serious with this question..

i mean, yeah i can? they don't show up until after the massive attack on the wall (much later in the season i'm gonna go ahead and presume) and they're showing them at castle black in the first episode. please tell me why i can't be serious

also, if i am actually incorrect, you can explain how instead of trying to be a snarky ass

Do you guys think they'll go all foamy bloodmouth, or just have him choke like he ate a chicken bone?

I'm thinking they'll go gory as shit. They'll make it so awful people almost feel guilty for being happy about it. Face going purpley black, gouging at his throat as he attempts a makeshift tracheostomy, crying as he realises he's going to die. And long as well. When you read it the whole thing seems to happen fast, but I can seem them dragging out his death for minutes while he suffocates.

I hope the latter. When I read that sequence in the book I legitimately believed for the next chapter or two that he had just choked on his dinner, and I demand that viewers be allowed to make the same misinterpretation.

I think it's important for them to make it obvious that this wasn't an accident, so I hope there's a lot of blood.

Unfortunately there just isn't enough time. I mean, all the previews are leading me to believe that they accuse Tyrion immediately.

I swear to god Stannis' speech better be somewhere in this season. They still have a chance to somewhat salvage his character, even if a bit too late.

Maybe they'll have him say his whole "I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne line" after the whole Wall battle. I would figure that'd be the perfect time to slip it in there, the show runners have been known to take lines and put them into later seasons.

Roose is perfect imo. One of the best actors on the show

In the book even after Tyrion was accused, I thought he was just getting the blame for what was actually an accident until Pycelle came back with his autopsy report saying there was nothing actually lodged in his throat. I think I'm maybe the only one who fell into that misinterpretation?

I still havent seen any casting for the most important character in the series so i only hope it's coming next season

Ser Pounce shall sit upon the Iron Throne!

iirc, in the chapter right after with Sansa, it's implied that LF had something to do with the death.

I still don't understand why Jaime doesn't have blonde hair.

Anyway, had a talk with a friend about the upcoming season. She is a bit concerned, because she read spoilers that Tyrion and Sansa head off together and don't do much and Jon ends up in charge of the wildlings army.

I just assured her there are some other good things that happen too.

I might be walking into a long running argument here, but I think the depiction of Stannis so far has been spot on. Leaving it to late to salvage his character was really the whole point and his actions after will be completely consistent.

yeah, in sansa's chapter, she escapes with ser dontos, he gets killed, and littlefinger tells her flatout that he and olenna orchestrated it

wasn't that also the point of how his death was written in the books? I somehow recall reading somewhere that despite Joffrey being an insufferable douchebag, he was still a (little) kid, helplessly dying in front of his mother.
