They had to cast Ned and Drogo too so by now they're probably used to it.

What I do love is how must Pascal has just been living up the media hype. He knows he's a book favourite, he's got a killer battle fighting for the life on the Tyrion. He knows he has only one season of this he's making the best of it all.

Do you guys reckon that Rickon is already aware that his mother Cat, brother Robb and bastard-brother Jon are all dead?

With his sisters gone (once he realises Arya in Winterfell is not Arya at all).

Imagine the rage, the vengeance and brutality he would display as King In the North.

Sucks that he is still so young. An older Rickon would be badass. Gohan Super Saiyan 2 Cell Saga esque baddass.

They are going to work their ass off building him up as the viewers champion this season and then the glorious fall.

I got to say that it would probably hit the non book readers harder if the mountains actor wasn't changed 3 times now. The mountain? That sounds familiar. I don't recognize this guy are you sure he's the mountain who rides?

#TeamOberyn is gonna be quite popular with the show watchers for sure. Can't wait for the tears!
Will there be tears? I'd imagine many viewers will guess he dies one he agrees to fight the Mountain. Makes me wonder how long can a show get away with this type of stuff lol.

Eddard, Lady
Robb Grey Wind
Cat
Jeor Mormont?
Joffrey
Oberyn
Tywin
Ygritte
Khal Drogo
Renly
Robert Baratheon

Any I've missed? This is just for Season 1-4. Did anyone die in Season 2 that was well liked by the TV audience?

Of course once Jon dies....LOL

I watched the half hour S3 recap because it was just on, and they had a reminder at the end that the double marathon (twice through S1-S3) starts tomorrow on HBO2 at 9am ET. I guess I'll leave that on all weekend - should be fun to catch a few of my favorite scenes.

Viserys. Someone had to like him, right?

There has to be a bitter fan somewhere who liked Viserys and hates Dany for letting him die lol. My brother always says that every song on the radio is someone's favorite song, and the same could apply here :(

Yeah, I was probably more upset that the Red Viper died in the way he did, compared to like the Red Wedding. haha

Not necessarily tears per say, but I feel like there are definitely going to be people with the frame of mind of "finally a new character to get behind that's badass and cool" and then have those hopes quickly squashed before they really even get to know Oberyn haha. I mean, most people feel like they just lost their main protagonists so they are going to be looking for someone new to place their hopes in.

The whole experience of having new characters introduced to you is so much different between the book and show. At least when you're reading the books you always have the idea in the back of your head that any character can die at any time. But for someone who is purely a show watcher I think it's hard for them to not fall prey to the way characters are presented in the way that makes them seem entitled to having a role larger than it really is (aka Oberyn). The people who only watch the show haven't experienced that yet unless I'm forgetting something obvious.

The Oberyn/Mountain scene In the book was sort of the last straw for me as far as my outlook on hope in general went. I was probably late to that party, but I'm always optimistic and always tell myself something just and good will happen eventually. When the Mountain crushed Oberyn's face I was just done with it at that point haha. I went from being still hopeful (prior and during the chapter) to just flat out "fuck it" by the end of it. After that chapter I became jaded on the outlook for the entire series haha. And I don't mean that in a way of not liking the books or anything. It was just that I finally realized to accept that I couldn't keep placing hope in certain things to go certain ways in the different storylines. It wasn't worth the emotional investment anymore! So now I read the books with an accepted depression. :)

I have a friend that is in love with Viserys haha. She has even drawn a couple pictures of him. She's hilarious lol.

Spoiler for those who haven't read book 4 - Viserys rides on Westeros with his awesome army in tow, and he's topless for like the whole book and wrestles with Renly and Jaime in one chapter, and finally makes the bookish and mousy maiden his dragon queen and wait, you thought I meant the actual series? I meant my erotic fanfiction.

The last scene of the series will be an ice-covered iron throne. Everyone in Westeros has been either betrayed by Roose Bolton or decapitated by whitewalkers.

Same. I would kinda be ok with his death if Gregor Clegane also died, but nope he's still alive being some zombie thing.

I really don't think viewers of the show are so invested as to care what happens to Gregor Clegane after this battle. They might as well just have both men die right there.

I wonder if the show could even potentially do this scenario. I wonder if Zombie Mountain is important enough for their version of the story. Although with Qyburn actually being introduced last season I think it's safe to say they will try to stick to that book storyline.

That too, and followed by Arya's fake death shortly after.
I'm always surprised by people who interpreted that chapter this way. That once never occurred to me as being possible. Characters like Arya and Dany have too much plot armor. Even for ASOIAF!

I'm rereading AGOT right now and I just read a part where Rickon got so upset to learn that Robb was leaving Winterfell that he stopped eating, punched Old Nan, and then vanished. They found him in the crypts with a rusted sword he took from one of the graves along with Shaggydog, who proceeded to bite Gage and Mikken. This kid is 3-4 years old at this point. Most of his family is either dead or scattered, with very little chance of seeing any of them again. He is now in Skagos with a wildling woman, as he was forced to escape his ruined home because of his father's ward and the son of one of his father's bannermen. He's going to be a fucking lunatic. I can't wait.

It is even worse in a re-read, knowing that the best part of Dorne is dead and you are just left with chapters and chapters of the most boring people in the series.

He's going to be a fucking lunatic. I can't wait.

I picture him leading a huge band of wolves, just going around wrecking shit.

I didn't know back then, plus I've just witnessed the death of so many Starks, why not one more?

We haven't seen the Dorne girls in action!

I can't wait either. GRRM should retcon his age :( .

And it wasn't necessarily the plot armor at the time that made me think that. I guess when I read the chapter it didn't seem like anything too serious had happened to her. I forget the wording of the chapter now though so maybe I'm just not recalling it correctly.

I think the series is going to end with Jaime sitting on the throne: the guy who just wanted to live a simple life with his love tasked with ruling the kingdoms because everyone else is dead, disgraced or crazy. The one who didn't play the game won. And he will do a hell of a job.

He's still in Kingsguard remember?

Same reaction with Oberyn, thought he was going to pull it out and then it was over and then... Face crushed in along with my hopes.

I wonder if they'll have the guts to make it as graphic as it was in the books.

Don't see the problem, they can circumvent that in a number of ways.

For example, not rule as the king per se but as Cersei has been ruling all this time. But I'm sure our man George can come up with a better solution.

I would bang a hot farmer!

Rickon is going to ride in on Shaggydog while simultaneously warging into Davos' body who's riding a unicorn and wreck shit!

I didn't think for a second she was dead either. It wasn't because she had plot armor but because it didn't make any sense at all for the Hound to kill her. She was valuable to him and just killing her wasn't a possibility.

But he wants to stay in Kingsguard, George might surprise us with a minor game player, but not someone who doesn't even want to play, besides, no other factions like Lannisters.

That's exactly my point. He doesn't want to leave the Kingsguard and he doesn't want to play, but he does it anyway because that's the right thing to do. I like the irony in that very much.

Don't know, he has been on a roll lately with good decisions and being a great guy overall, I'm sure George thinks it's time for him to screw up or get punished (don't think Stoneheart does anything drastic to him... I hope), but his redemption story is fantastic and he deserves a good ending.

nope the most he deserves is a bittersweet ending with him dying as he choke his sister to death

Unless the king fires him, he stays in there, and you can not secretly be king without people knowing :p

It might work in the tv series:

Varys: You can't be in the kingsguard and become king! It is a major plot point!
Jaime: So is me being blonde and looking like my sister and children
Varys: ... your grace.

- EW review
But the first three episodes of Game of Thrones‘ new season are just about perfect. Maybe it’s because the showrunners have moved beyond the book-per-season model, but the gradual build-up from seasons 1-3 has been replaced by in media res hyperspeed. Grade: A-
