I would bang a hot farmer!
Someone was counting down the weeks to episode 9 in the non-book thread earlier.

Sweet summer child.

And they're even wrong about the number of weeks because there's no episode on Memorial Day weekend again this year.

If I didn't read the books, seeing this charming Prince Oberyn winning, only to have the Mountain smash his face in would have been a huge shock to watch. Hard to explain, but if I didn't read, I'd have no idea what was in story for Tyrion, Jon, Arya, Dany etc.

It's gonna be a shock to the non-book readers. Not Red Wedding shock, but a shock nonetheless. He's such an awesome character, it's tough to see him go so early and essentially snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

It's not just his death though but also the consequences of Tyrion's champion losing. The first thing that popped into my head when it happened was "oh shit, Tyrion better run or else he's dead".

True, and with the way things go in this world, I'm sure non-book readers are going to bank on Tyrion's death…only they will be happily surprised in a good way this time.

Except when Tywin gets it. Everyone loves Tywin, and justifiably so. Gonna be sad to see him go.

I just don't buy Tyrion not doing Shea when he had the chance. They made him way too heroic on the show.

Yeah, I wonder if that's going to bite them in the ass soon with the whole "hands of gold" affair or in the future because it seems to me that future Tyrion is going full dark side.

Loved the episode!
Wondering what they're going to do with Shae. It seems too early for Cersei to know.
Also, uh... what are those symptoms Cersei was talking about? I don't remember anything like that in the books...

Pretty sure Qyburn is hooking her up with birth control.

Great episode.

So the thenns and the wildling party keep talking about the signal from Mance. Are you telling me they are going to merge the two battles at the wall into one? Cause that would suck major ass.

How are they going to make the leap from Dontos' gift and Joffrey's death?

I wonder if they'll have a scene that ties the two events together, or if they'll leave it a temporary mystery.

Was it ever confirmed how Joffrey died? I can't remember.

Yeah. It's totally doable with just Littlefinger, and he could have easily have given Sansa the necklace / hairnet instead.

Kind of confusing adding Dontos in again, after he's been out for two full seasons.
I wonder if they want to keep people confused as to who really kills Joff. Throwing Dontos back into the mix will create that extra layer of confusion.

I loved the scenes with Awesome-New Daario. Hopefully more people come onboard with the recasting.
Still frustrated that they had to recast the character in the first place, but I really like this actor.

Oh my god, Oberyn is so hot. His scene was faaaaantastic. Whew, I was blushing a little bit.

Also the shot of Arya and The Hound together in the bushes was hilarious. Need to make that my wallpaper.

edit: New Daario is mad hot, too. And Jaime cleaned up well. Man, this show has such great eye-candy.

I don't believe it was ever really confirmed, but I think that we were led to believe that the Tyrells pulled it off. And now with this episode having the necklaces with Olenna and then the necklace Dontos gives Sansa... Lots of necklace shenanigans going on there!

Edit: Had to do a quick search to remind myself:

It seems quite likely that Littlefinger is partially to blame for murdering Joffrey, and that he was in cohoots with Olenna. He certainly had time at Bitterbridge to plan such a murder with her...and implies as much, while talking with Sansa. Also, it was Dontos that gave Sansa the hairnet with the Strangler in it. Since Dontos was under Littlefinger’s employ, it seems likely that Littlefinger gave Dontos the hairnet to pass along to Sansa, in order for Olenna to be able to use it.

Also, Littlefinger tells Sansa on page 768 of A Storm of Swords that he knows the murderer was the one who straightened out Sansa’s hairnet. How could he known this if he was not present at the feast? The only possible explanation is that he and Olenna had already planned it ahead of time.
