*UNMARKED SPOILERS ALL BOOKS* Game of Thrones |OT| - Season 4 - Sundays on HBO

No. If anything they should be moved into their own little world at this point.

But what would it change, really? People can easily search for "Game of Thrones" and find this thread if they've read the books, and otherwise they can look on the main page and find the non-book thread.

I guess I'm just being petty, but why do we have to go such lengths to babysit these people? Especially when their thread is borderline dead compared to this one.

*BOOKS SPOILERS* *BOOKS SPOILERS* *BOOKS SPOILERS* *BOOKS SPOILERS* *BOOKS SPOILERS* *BOOKS SPOILERS*

I suggested naming this thread something completely different, like "A Song of Ice and Fire TV Adaptation Spoilers |OT|". People's brains skim through text they don't read it, using Game of Thrones and text in all caps for both threads will lead to mistakes like that.

This I'd be okay with, though.

I just think it's a matter of being considerate to other fans of the show. I agree that they should pay attention, and I'm only thinking in the best interests of all. If the roles were reversed, I'd like to hope that they'd do the same for us.

Well, at least both don't start with the show name anymore. Baby steps people.

Ugh, this is too unnecessarily complicating things. The thread titles are already different, they just need to pay attention. We wouldn't be talking about this if people would just fucking subscribe to their respective threads. It's so fucking easy.

I'm honestly almost done caring at this point.

Shae. TV Shae is a wholly different character than Book Shae, and I think book readers are being set up for a pretty serious deviation in how the season ends.

If they let show Shae survive, I swear to god...

Edit: come to think of it, they might have her take over Penny's role from the book. I would rage so hard

I think show Shae sucks, but I HATE Penny so I might actually be alright with that. I don't think it will happen though, Shae's betrayal and death are pretty important to the story.

I think Shae ends up in the same place, murdered by Tyrion in Tywin's bed, bud her path to getting there and her motivations will probably be pretty different.

Also, that guy who came to the wrong thread totally entered on like the worst page possible.

I wish there was one thread and a radio button button that said "I don't care about spoilers." or "No, don't spoil me."

Clicking one or the other made invisible the posts made by the other party.

Random question:

On the show, Ser Meryn Trant is portrayed as this weakling who can't hang with the best fighters in Westeros.

Bronn makes him out to be this knight in name only ("I wouldn't want to get blood all over your pretty white cloak." and calling him a grub.)

Jaime kind of makes fun of him too on the latest episode.

He's the only Lannister man who is able to trade blows with Syrio Forel though.

So which is it? Can Ser Meryn kick some ass or not?

Syrio had a wooden sword though, and was completely unarmored, so I don't know if you can call that a fair fight

I wonder how Peter Dinklage will feel about the whole Penny/Essos business. I remember way back when reading about how he thought the role of Tyrion was refreshing because it wasn't the usual "midget role". :p Maybe they'll alter it somewhat for him.

I don't understand the Penny hate at all.

Well the Kingsguard traditionally is made up out of 7 of the, if not THE best warriors in the realm. By that definition alone Ser Meryn should at least be a skilled and successful warrior. Even though he's a dick.

EDIT: Meaning Syrio, reading comprehension fail.

Plus you have the theory he never died and ended up as Jacques Hagar.

Jaquen H'ghar? Anyway, that's completely silly. Syrio was a water dancer, not a faceless assassin.
Or a faceless man pretending to be a water dancer in order to train Arya because it was known who she would become. He's then thrown into a dungeon where he changed his face so he wouldn't be killed. He then hooks up with Arya again and directs her down her path once again.

Yeah, but it's heavily implied by the beginning of the series that the Kingsguard is not what it once was, and obviously by where we are in the book, it is nowhere near a collection of the best warriors. Jaime and Ser Loras seem to be the only ones that actually belong in it, as far as martial skills go.

Folks gonna reach anyway they can to stay in denial. I like the idea of Syrio's fate being left ambiguous. There are arguments you can make for him living, but ultimately, it doesn't matter for story purposes, he's gone. As much as I like the character, it'd be too weird to bring him back as a Faceless man.

Syrio joined the faceless assassins the day before everyone started killing the Starks.

He found Ned Stark and took his place, leading everyone to believe they had executed the real Eddard.

In the series finale, Ned Stark comes out of the cave in which he's been living for 10 years and surveys all the destruction. Dragon fire, whitewalkers, no living thing remains.

Sean Bean looks at the screen and says "Finally."

Of course, but even when the Kingsguard is a mere shadow of its former self, I still doubt that an incompetent fighter would be named a member of it. I want to say that in the books, he also did fairly well in the jousts, no? In the Tourney of the Hand, I think he was only beat by Loras Tyrell.

He's probably not a god tier warrior like Jaime or Loras, but I'm fairly certain that he can hold his own in a fight.

Syrio is actually Howland Reed, and the real father of Arya.

And also the mother of Jon Snow.

Everyone knows Syrio is actually Varys.

This is true, he was appointed before it's gone completely to shit. At least he's not a Kettleblack

Yeah although I think the books indicate that the Kingsguard being the absolute best warriors in the realm was much truer under the Targ rule than Robert/Joffrey/Tommen (especially when Cersei starts assigning/dismissing members).

That said, I think Meryn is probably a very good sword, people just don't like him very much, so you don't see people handing out praise.

Cersei fucked the kingsguard up by adding the Kettleblacks. Now it's just a joke, no more legendary knights. Heck, even the Lord Commander lost his sword hand and can't fight with the other one

It's more everything surrounding that character I suppose. I don't like the notion that Tyrion is an acrobat and flips around and rides a pig or whatever. Penny just rubs me the wrong way, but maybe the show will handle that stuff in a less ridiculous manner than the book. I think most of Tyrion's storyline in ADWD is George at his very worst.

Syrio is actually Howland Reed, and the real father of Arya.

also, the real richest man in Qarth.

as for Penny... I dunno. Her character inspired more pity than hatred in me. It was a window to the life of a commoner, and a dwarf one at that. Whether GRRM was succesful with that, I guess it depends on the reader. I will say, however, that some of Tyrion's chapters in ADWD I found hard to read but I think that was the intention. Tyrion's in a very dark place (mentally/emotionally) during the events of the book, so Penny also represents a small window of hope for Tyrion's redemption.
So in a way I think some of the hatred directed at Penny is actually hatred towards Tyrion's storyline.

Does anyone have any good syrio theories? I-I just don't want him to be dead. The first sword of braavos couldn't have been taken down by scrubs. No way. Pls George pls.

the theory that syrio is jaqen is quite common, though, isnt it?
personally, I never cared much, at least until I saw tom wlashiha, his performance was stellar, I want more jaquen now.

No. If anything they should be moved into their own little world at this point.

Seriously. What else can we do but to make an explicit thread title and post warnings on every page? I don't even get why they'd click on it if they're subscribing to the TV-only thread (which they should be).

I mean it's more likely to make the mistake the other way around, a book reader posting in the wrong thread because s/he might want to read both threads. But a non-reader should never touch this thread if they're sensitive to spoilers.

If people haven't figured out how to subscribe to threads yet, then that's their own fault. That and learning how to read as well. I have zero empathy for anyone who stumbles into this thread. The warnings are all there.

A terrible human being or not, Joffrey is still a kid/teenager that will (I guess) very graphically suffocate to death. I wouldn't be surprised if the scene is quite disturbing.

What if...Syrio was Robert Strong who was somehow made super large?

Nah, Syrio is actually Daario. You should pay more attention to the books you read, the signs are all there.

PS. These articles from Vice posted a couple of pages back are so bad, especially the first one. "No I didn't watch it, it may be good but man fantasy, these neckbeard nerds, orcs, get it? ORCS lol get a life", seems like a well-thought out opinion piece.

PPS.

The thread titles are dissimilar but man, I'd lie if I didn't accidentally wade into non-book thread once or twice. If you just skim titles on the first page it's very easy to forget about *spoiler alert* in the thread title and just dumbly click it.
