*UNMARKED SPOILERS ALL BOOKS* Game of Thrones |OT| - Season 4 - Sundays on HBO

I didn't hate Penny. I felt sorry for her really.
Yeah. To me she's there to hammer home to Tyrion what a mess he's in without his family and money. They're both constantly at risk of being the victims of almost casual violence and he sees that better than her. Conversely, Penny has the ability to make a living, but it's quite sad and undignified.

I would bang a hot farmer!
The thread titles are dissimilar but man, I'd lie if I didn't accidentally wade into non-book thread once or twice. If you just skim titles on the first page it's very easy to forget about *spoiler alert* in the thread title and just dumbly click it.
I don't feel sorry for people from the other thread coming in here and getting spoiled.
I don't feel sorry for people from this thread posting a spoiler in the other thread and getting banned.
Only people I feel sorry for are those sticking to the other thread and getting spoiled.

My guess for how they'll handle the 'shit gold' line: We get 'wherever whores go', Tyrion shoots, Tywin dies, then Tyrion sort of wrinkles up his nose like he's just smelt something disgusting then says "Huh... I guess you didn't shit gold after all" to Tywin's corpse. Walks out, throwing crossbow on the bed next to Shae as he walks past.

They'll probably stick a reference to him shitting gold somewhere in the season beforehand. Maybe put Robb's awesome "20,000 Northmen marching south to see if he really does shit gold" line in the previously section.

You can actually read the title, or better yet, subscribe to the thread you're in.
Problem solved.

Yup.

So I've been thinking about this when I got up. Do you guys think the show will somehow address the prophecy from Maggy the Frog?
After all, it's a big part of Cersei's MO in the books, and one of the main reasons she hates Tyrion and Margaery so much (since she's scared the "little brother" and "young queen" are those two).

Hope not. That prophecy felt like it was shoe-horned in.

This is my first season where I've read the books and I'm loving reading non book reader speculation.

"Honestly,I think they need to give him more of a purpose. Dude needs to get out of the palace and DO something. Marry his Queen, have a big party, drink till he falls over and then decide "fuck it,I'm king now, assemble the army" and go fight Stannis or something."

lol well he'll get that part done.

I love how RedShift has gone from non-book reader (very observant at that, I must say) to full on ASOIAF theorist in one year.

Yeah I may have gone a bit nuts recently with all the conspiracies and stuff... The High Sparrow is totally Howland Reed though.

So you've read the books? Why would you post that then?

nah, never touched one of the books in my life. I just read this thread, I'm not a person who cares about spoilers. I posted that post to A) see what non-readers think about joffrey and B) I had a little bet with a friend seeing how quickly I would get quoted here.

Posting "speculation" based on spoilers in an attempt to be clever is really obnoxious.

Pretty sure posting what happens as speculation is against the rules.

Where was i speculating? How did I post what happens?

The rules for the other thread said:
- For the book readers that want to lurk in this thread:
  • No taunting or teasing:
e.g. "Oh, just wait until you guys see what happens to him next week!!!"
  • No leading questions:
e.g. "What do you think will happen to this character by the end of the season?"
  • No comparing the book to the show:
e.g. "Well, that's different than in the book where they..."
  • Answering questions is fine when the information is readily available from what has aired on the show.
e.g. Q: "Wait, how is Robb related to Ned?" A: "Robb is Ned's son."

See the first two points. You posted that at his wedding Joffrey should take a drink and fall down, pretending it was what you hope happens.

I don't think we'll get any prophesy on the show, the producers have pretty much confirmed it (they want to avoid Lost comparisons).

However that Maggy flashback would be a cool cold opening to me.

Thats leading. You post in this thread and subject yourself to spoilers, so it doesn't matter if you have read the books or not. You have information, clues and such that people who do care about spoiler doesn't have access to, so you shouldn't post pseudo speculation in the no-spoiler thread just as a bet to see if someone in this thread reacts.

You guys are getting too paranoid. Nothing he said is breaking the rules.

That said, he should probably either go read the books and get completely caught up, or stop actively spoiling himself and just watch the show. This muddy in-between is very annoying.

i like that kinda stuff,i do it with every series/movie/what have you. I like knowing the big stuff so I can concentrate more on the smaller things inbetween.

I don't know, like most of it? I don't really think about the serie smuch outside of watching it or reading the threads when I am bored at work.

Not caring about the show that much + not caring about spoilers + not knowing exactly how much you know + posting in the thread when bored = recipe for accidental spoilers.

Edit: just be careful.

Pretending you don't know what happens and posting fake speculation in the non-readers thread is in extremely poor taste, even if it isn't a specific violation of any rules (not sure if it is or isn't). Non-readers should be left alone to have their own uninfluenced conversation and speculation. There is no reason for you to do that other than your own amusement, which is just kind of childish.

I'm gonna miss Ygritte when she goes :(

I wonder what episode though

gbXyBnL.jpg

He found Ygritte sprawled across a patch of old snow beneath the Lord Commander’s Tower, with an arrow between her breasts. The ice crystals had settled over her face, and in the moonlight it looked as though she wore a glittering silver mask.

The arrow was black, Jon saw, but it was fletched with white duck feathers. Not mine, he told himself, not one of mine. But he felt as if it were.

When he knelt in the snow beside her, her eyes opened. “Jon Snow,” she said, very softly. It sounded as though the arrow had found a lung. “Is this a proper castle now? Not just a tower?”

“It is.” Jon took her hand.
“Good,” she whispered. “I wanted t’ see one proper castle, before… before I…”
“You’ll see a hundred castles,” he promised her. “The battle’s done. Maester Aemon will see to you.” He touched her hair. “You’re kissed by fire, remember? Lucky. It will take more than an arrow to kill you. Aemon will draw it out and patch you up, and we’ll get you some milk of the poppy for the pain.”

She just smiled at that. “D’you remember that cave? We should have stayed in that cave. I told you so.”

“We’ll go back to the cave,” he said. “You’re not going to die, Ygritte. You’re not.”

“Oh.” Ygritte cupped his cheek with her hand. “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” she sighed, dying

As old as me, yes.

Pulled from previous reply:

Edit: Found it. Atari adventure. I was only 2 when this came out but remember playing this. It's possible it's one of the first video games I ever played maybe when I was a bit older. Talk about nostalgia, and the funny thing is the instant I saw them they made me nervous like I must have been freaked out by them as a kid. Crazy I haven't played that in over 30 years and still remember that feeling.

Edit2: I even remember those keys, haha

My enjoyment of this show has increased in a huge way since I decided to stop wanting it to be a good adaptation of the books and instead started to take it for what it is: a loose recreation of certain big scenes from the books, with the bastardized lead-up necessary to get non-book readers up to speed to the point where the aforementioned "big scenes" have some kind of impact for them.

For example, I used to let it bother me that The Mountain was virtually eliminated from the show, but now I'm ok with the fact that he will probably have a couple of (completely fabricated) scenes before the Oberyn fight to set up his character. The point is, I want to watch Oberyn get his get his face pounded into a fine paste on television, and that is what I will get.

The one thing that really bothers me still, though, is that it looks like Stannis' arrival at the Wall will not be a surprise and we will be getting up-to-the-minute updates on his trip.

I guess technically I was three, but it was one of the first games I ever played as well. I used to spend hours awkwardly dragging around keys and swords (which were just arrows) and fighting those weird duck seahorse dragons. Good times.

You can actually play it in browser here. It doesn't exactly hold up, but it's hilarious to see how far we've come. It was the Dark Souls of the Atari 2600.

Such a great, but sad moment. Martin occasionally brings out some really good writing, and this was one of his best. The fact that the good parts are dialogue means it will translate really well to TV too.

Whoa, playing this is like frightening how the sounds even are coming back. Thanks for the link!

Sorry to take this thread so off topic, my bad!

I was just noting it happens, no need to be all high and mighty. I subscribe to the thread but when skimming through thread titles on the offtopic I once entered the wrong topic. Just saying I can see how some might do same mistake and end up in this topic.

While predictable that he will arrive at the wall, show watchers will not know when he's going to arrive. I think his charge on the rear of the wildling army will still get people pumped.

I rewatched the last scene with Davos and Stannis in S3 and I don't get why they portray Stannis the way they do. He's such a henpecked tool, doing whatever Melisandre tells him. The way the scene plays out you'd think Melisandre was the regent in the room, it doesn't make any sense to me.
For me this was literally the biggest disappointment I've had with the show. Davos appealing to stannis' honor and duty to the kingdom while offering his head to stannis was so perfect in the books, as was the ambiguity of what stannis would do.

Instead they shat out a terrible scene and undermined both stannis and davos. Really bummed me out.

But how did Jon and Melisandre not know :p
Speaking of GoT crackpot theories, what's the craziest one you've ever heard?

Mine is probably "Roose Bolton is a vampire".

Dude, Roose Bolton is an Other wearing human skin, duh.

Also, Varys is a mermaid. My mind is still reeling from the Varys is a mermaid theory.

While predictable that he will arrive at the wall, show watchers will not know when he's going to arrive. I think his charge on the rear of the wildling army will still get people pumped.

I hope they have Mel try to convince him that he needs to head back south and win a bigger army or something. It needs to be a surprise, and a moment of choosing Davos over Mel. There needs to be horses and carts. :(
