Varys says he wants the good of the realm but he destroys any semblance of stability it has. Also i don't buy the whole Littlefinger Varys rivalry, obviously they're adversaries but they probably don't see each other as the enemy, that was just played up by the show.

It's made pretty clear what Varys considers best for the realm in ADWD -- Short-term stability isn't it. He's on team Aegon.

I just want to say it is a tragedy that Diana Rigg doesn't get star billing. She's been absolutely perfect this season and last, and this week she turned it up. The look in her eyes as Tyrion grabs the cup - she knows he's going to take the fall for it now, no way it might get seen as an accident.

Granted, she probably won't have as much to do the rest of the season, but it's not like Aidan Gillen was even in the back half of S3.

She's been brilliant. I think she's the new favourite of the unsullied from what I've read over there. They're loving her, but as far as I can remember she doesn't play that big a role after the wedding anymore, does she?

No, not really. They'll probably expand her role out a bit since they put so much focus on Margaery in the show, but I don't think she does very much at all after the wedding.

I'm just hoping for at least one more scene with her and Tywin by the end.

I can see the show playing her up a bit more than the books do, and in the Books, I can see her having a bigger role now that Kevin is dead and Cersei is likely out of the picture, win or lose.

Has varys ever lied? I truly believe he is on of the good guys.
He has a clear vision what's best for the realm, and that is -contrary to what you say- stability. and he believes the best way to achieve that is with a targaryen ruler.
now he might be wrong about that, thats debatable, but I believe his intentions are good.

I hope that don't try to wedge that in as a line of dialogue. If Tyrion says it as a one-liner after offing Tywin it's going to be tacky as hell.

Agreed. The show is pretty good about this kind of thing though. You'll hear Bronn say it to someone, or some other character in jest.

Just wild speculation here, but I wonder if the reason Tyrion didn't put it together that Joffrey sent the assassin for Bran is Littlefinger is going to reveal it to Sansa later in the season.

Doesn't Bran have visions of controlling one of the dragons in book 5, does bran know that dragons are back?
Got me thinking. I disagree with the post being quoted in the link but not completely. The way the show is handling Bran seems so detached. The things he is doing are amazing and have so much potential but it doesn't feel like it's making any difference or getting anywhere. It's a little weird.

Or maybe it has to do with Bran's scenes in the show coming and going so quickly that no one really has any time to think about what he is doing.

That was a good episode. Covered lots of juicy material. Not surprising that GRRM wrote the episode himself. He always seems to save really good stuff for himself, lol. Joffery went out like a little bitch, which was pretty much perfect. I'm glad the actor is now free of being a celebrity and can now focus on philosophy and theology. It'll be hilarious some day in the future when he's teaching a class and some smart ass student starts playing the death scene on his phone!

Wait, is he not going to act at all any more? That would be very unfortunate. He did an absolutely stellar job in this role, and would really like to see him develop his skills further.

Ive been thinking since last night. What if Bronn has a hand in helping Tyrion escape. It seem like Bronn and Jaime are going to become buddies (kind of) and maybe Jaime has him tag along.

He says he's done acting and wants to pursue other things once he graduates from school. Makes sense if he feels more fulfilled in another area of study and wants to devote himself entirely to that. Was more of a hobby than a career to him.

It's a super memorable role too so people will still be talking about him for a long time.

I really hope Bronn ends up going with Jaime when he leaves King's Landing. I don't want him to leave the show and become an off-screen character like in the books. The actor plays Bronn too well. One of the characters that I feel the show does better than the books.

This episode made me remember how much I hate Cersei.

I constantly saw her smiling throughout Tyrions humiliation. God damn Lena is IMO at least on Jack Gleesons level when it comes to portraying a character everyone hates. The way she smiled and looked at Tyrion while doing it... Goddamn I wanted to slap her right there and then.

Her walk of shame will be glorious.

I loved how confused they were at his reaction.

I also loved Oberyn's dig at Cersei & Tywin. Calling Myrcella a bastard in the slyest way possible.

Good episode. Loras's sick burn on Jamie made me laugh so hard.

New guy to hate on is Ramsay Snow. Even though he is played by Iwan Rheon who I find strangely cute. Dammit.

I won't be able to watch this episode for awhile (or catch up on this thread) but does this episode also reveal Tyrion's realization that Joffrey was behind the attempt on Bran's life, or do they gloss over this? It's an act that further cemented Tyrion's dislike for Jof, and I was hoping the show would include it. Not to mention, it was part of book 3s closing of the loop on various threads.

Unfortunately it wasn't at all addressed as Joffrey didn't deliver the line that lead to it, he also didn't deliver the "and now there's three" line after destroying Tyrion's gift.

I agree, haha. Ramsay is such a bastard (both literally and metaphorically), but he's got this puppy look and I just can't continue hating the guy.

Yeah, true, if he's doing something that makes him happy than I can't argue with that at all. It's a shame that some people seem incapable, or at the very least unwilling, to separate the actor from the role. Lots of people think he's a huge douche, but everything I've heard is that he's an extremely pleasant person.

If there's one pattern to be drawn from the adaptation so far, it's that DnD love giving bit part players from the books who reach unexpected levels of popularity with the audience expanded parts. It's happened with Osha, Bronn, Margaery and debatably Pod, and I fully expect it to happen with Olenna now.

I'm going to assume Shae is not on the boat and was taken to the tower of the hand like Tywin said?

Makes me wonder how Bronn could have seen her depart though.

Yeah, that seems reasonable.

We probably won't see her again till episode 9 then? Oh what a reveal that'll be.

I hope not, my flatmate who I was watching the episode with kept asking if that was it, f she was really gone for good.

I told him she was.

Yes, he says that he doesn't really like celebrity culture, and he has been acting since he was 11. He's kinda tired of it professionally, and he wants to focus on academia instead. He will probably still do plays and support local productions, but as far as being in films and TV, he seems pretty confident that he has had enough.

Browsing the non reader thread and saw this regarding Theon/Reek:

Theon was visibly hurt when he heard what happened to Robb. He is acting as Ramsay's slave to stay alive -- he wants to live.

Got me thinking that the show actually hasn't gone far enough with Theon "turning into" Reek, despite all of the awful torture of last season.

Maybe the show should have been more drastic in Theon's physical change into someone else entirely? That's what always struck me in the books when you get that first Reek chapter in ADwD. The guy not only has had his mind completely broken but physically the guy is barely recognizable as Theon Greyjoy anymore. I think that's exactly the case when Asha barely recognizes him when they meet up. Whereas Reek in the show does a decent enough job acting broken but the physical transformation is a but lacking. He basically just looks like Theon with a nervous tick. I always pictured Reek as looking more like Theon Greyjoy on one of those Faces of Meth posters- the guy's hair has grayed prematurely and is all falling out, he's had teeth knocked out, fingers and toes flayed/chopped off.

I just feel like some of the shock of seeing Reek for the first time in the books in ADwD and realizing it's Theon was basically pissed away in the show by dragging out his torture on screen .

Wasn't Ramsey originally Reek and just as disfigured so when he gets freed he takes it out on Theon like some member of NAMBLA?
