Until Dawn |OT| I know what you'll play this summer

Lan Dong Mik

And why would I want them?
I'm loving this game and I just now got to chapter 3 so im still in the slow phase but I really love the atmosphere and characters. Acting like a bunch of horny 19-20 year olds which is the way it goes down in almost all horror films with this setting. I'm really excited to find out what's up with that psychiatrist/doc that I talk to about my fears and just who exactly is ther person answering the questions as well. Lots of mystery going on I sure hope it pays off because this shit has me hooked.

Just finished my first run.
3 deaths overall. Jess and Matt are what I assume most people will have on their first playthrough, Mike at the end was a bummer though. I also had Josh going Wendigo as the after-credits stinger.
I enjoyed the hell out of this. It didn't scare me, but it was generally very entertaining and every chase, QTE section or decision was really tense because of the potential consequences. It's also rewarding in a way, when you manage to keep your favorites alive after a huge amount of near-death experiences.

I agree with this sentiment as well. It seems to be a straightforward option that is regularly included in a wide range of games, yet was oddly omitted here.

For me, invert look isn't just about shooting. Invert look is extended to all portions of the gameplay, like directing the characters eyes and controlling the flashlight. My reaction times are thrown off a bit because of the "counterintuitive" controls.

It's also interesting that you think that the developer wouldn't think that it was worth implementing. Do you have some unique insight here?

All of this. Why would I have to work against the controls when 99% of games out there include this option? It's not bothering me as much yet, because for whatever reason, I chose motion controls, and I don't seem to be having trouble with those, but still, this is a standard option, and needs to be included.

This game looks sooo good and the ambient is just top notch. The acting and dialogue are shockingly good for a slasher film.

The only thing that I don't like is the sound mix. It kind of feels far away at times. It sounds echo-ish?

But yeah, enjoying this so far.

Chamber

love on your sleeve
Only played through the first Chapter but I'm definitely liking it so far. I think it might be better to hold off until the weekend when I can play in bigger chunks.

I should receive my copy from Amazon tomorrow, the wait is killing me...

Regarding the move compatibility, there's a message on Amazon.fr indicating that, contrary to what is stated on the back of the box, the game is actually not compatible...

Marvel

could never
Most definitely worth full price for me as a big Quantic Dream fan. Going back to Beyond or Heavy Rain would be way too hard after playing this. I feel like it's the new gold standard for this genre. I hope David Cage plays this.

Good stuff, thanks.

30? this game goes to single digits sometimes.

Bullsiht single digits. Video or it didn't happen. Seriously. I'll give that the game can dip, but not a single time did I see the game hitch into less than 10 damn frames per second territory. EVERYONE would have noticed that, and been commenting.

Game is decent length, especially if you attempt to go for both survival trophies (without using a guide).

I don't understand this at all - why would someone want a lower average framerate? Vsync is enabled so tearing isn't an issue when the framerate fluctuates. It literally has no bearing on the gameplay of this game whatsoever. It could have been locked 24fps for full movie immersion and it still wouldn't have any repercussions on the gameplay.

It's pretty obvious why if you understand frame distribution.

edit: dark10x already explained it actually.

edit 2: just finished it. phew! made a bit of a bad decision right at the end though lol.

Yeah me and some other gaffers noticed that ~10 pages ago. The sound on stereo systems is really strange for the voices. It should be better on 5.1 systems, but it don't know.

Best buddy of mine works as an audio integrator (and does a lot of VO work) and he hasn't played the game yet, but I mentioned the mixing comments in this thread and he's super pissed now. :p

I think I've seen it hitch pretty badly in the scene where (Chapter 6 location Spoilers:)
Matt and Emily get to the top of the fire tower.
other than that, I've seen the occasional sub 30 dip, but nothing worth mentioning. I should clarify that I don't concern myself with framerates all that much, but you're right, it's a non issue.

Haha, if even "normal" people can hear it, i'm afraid that the voices are the real horror in this game for your friend ^^.
Has Supermassivegames a forum ? Maybe they can explain this a bit more.

Took the character test on the companion app. Ended up getting Emily.

I really do love this game. I hope it's successful enough for Supermassive Games to do another game like it.

Holy crap this game is nearly impossible to put down once you start it! I'm having such a blast with this!

Tell me about it...Wife and I put the baby to sleep at 10-ish for her 5 hour sleep and ended up staying up until 2 AM getting to chapter 7. Totally wrecked today but it's worth it.

It sounds off even coming through regular TV speakers.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
I think that is the point. I've never seen a likeable character in slasher movies.

"Let's party like we are pornstars!"

Hahaha, what!?
She is the most hateable, but has the funniest lines.

"They're like, probably off 69'ing each other somewhere."

"Ugh, UNFOLLOWED."

I was going to stop at chapter 4, yet here I am now at 2:10am just finishing off chapter 7. The game does such a brilliant job at ending each chapter and leaving you wanting more!

Downloaded this yesterday, played for all of 15 minutes and had to make dinner and help take care of the baby. I tried both motion controls and regular ones, there seem to be some positives and negatives for both. Which do you use GAF?

Enjoying this a lot so far. Really nice build up and the game looks amazing. Jason Graves has killed it with the soundtrack.

Has the developer commented at all about this lack of invert look option?
Shame on me for assuming this would be a standard option, as it is in 99.999999999999% games that involve looking around in 3 dimensions.

Yes, I'm a tad bit salty. Planned a games night tonight with the wife (she loves horror style games and B-horror movies) but both of us play inverted controls in everything from WoW to L4D.. I can't play the other way. I've several times to get the hang of it over the years, and it just does not compute.

Game is already downloaded and installed on my Ps4. I'm here at work, staring in disbelief at these posts about there being NO look inversion. I feel like you are all mistaken, that it's configurable but must have somehow missed it. Somehow. All of you. How could there not be? :(

"Understand the palm of my hand, bitch!" Lol that scene absolutely killed me. Watching streamers play this makes me almost wanna get the game myself but I'm worried I've already spoiled too much. I already know about
Josh and his whole deal.
How much do choices really matter? Is it really deep or is it just an illusion? Are there characters that die no matter what? That would really take me out of it.

There are 256 endings, you can save everyone, you can kill everyone. Gametrailers last night came pretty close to saving everyone, only to kill everyone but three people haha.

I've played that scene like four times (trying to change things) and didn't experience anything like single digit dips.

Consistent framerate? No way. However the framerate isn't even close to anything that would get points marked off for this game.

There is exactly one ending. Who gets there (none all the way to all) is the only thing that changes. However it all ends the same.

So, how's the performance? When I saw this last year it was running very very poorly. For a cinematic game, that's kind of distracting. Did they at least manage a fairly steady 30fps?
Indoors its always 30 or higher most of the time. Outdoors it can tank pretty heavily depending on the scenery. Definitely hovered around 20 for an extended period of time once, but for this type of game it wasnt too distracting.

A lot of it is just an illusion and PR, but thats to be expected. Supermassive are not that huge of a studio to include a lot of real branches right from the start. As per usual the
branching occurs mostly towards the end

Prologue spoilers:
Beth and Hannah are the only scripted death when it comes to the group of friends.

I dubbed that The Elyse ending after Elyse Williams and demanded it be considered canon for Game trailers. It was delicious how it happened.

So I rented this from Redbox last night and playing with headphones on, holy fuck this game has scared the "blue out of my pants".

I love this game.

Although I'm not a fan of the scares just for the scares.

So, I'm someone who HATES jumpscares. I think they're a shitty cheap trick preying on human instinct with loud noises and sudden images.

With that out of the way, I think virtually every jumpscare in the game is very well done. The game is very, very good at building tension and while some of the scares do fall flat due to some of the rapid fire jumpscare sections, the game's penchant for making you forget about jump scares for a few scenes and then blasting you with a very good one is pretty devious.

No inverted look? That makes it a lot easier to hold off on this game until the price comes down. Hopefully, by then they'll have patched that in.

There's no 'look' at all. It's a fixed camera game. This only comes up the few times you might aim - essentially a minute or two out of the entire time you're playing it.

Having an absolute blast with this so far. First played myself couple of hours and then watched wife play the same and it was as much fun watch her play and scream on all those jump scares. Hope the game continues as strong.

Not even bothered by some of the dumb characters and dialogue as much I thought I'd be. Most of the time kinda comes with the genre.

Can someone answer in spoiler tags how many chapters there are? Just don't want to rush through it too fast. Though I do feel this will hold up well on multiple playthroughs.

There are 10 chapters + the prologue so 11 in total.

I was talking more of
choosing zombies are scary then looking through the binoculars and bam zombie pops up and doesn't affect anything.

Everything else I'm fine with.

Also do everyone only die one way or can they have multiple deaths?

Also, fuck Emily.

Alright, stupid question, but how do I save the game? I played a few hours the other day, booted it up again today and none of it has been saved.
