US Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders rallies |OT|

I'm looking forward to being able to vote for him in primary, since Virginia has open primaries.

Unfortunately, unless a miracle occurs 2016 will be another year where I vote for someone with no shot at winning in the general. But I've already accepted that I'll probably never vote in a single President in my lifetime.

I mean when it comes to money in politics nobody this cycle is going to touch Jeb.

He's going to destroy every fundraising record known to man.

I don't doubt that she would appoint liberal justices. That is one of the reasons I wouldn't mind her winning the presidency over a republican. But I do still find it hard to believe she, herself, is all about getting money out of politics.

Of course she wants it out, at least in regards to Citizen's United. Sure, it gives her a huge advantage over Bernie Sanders, but he isn't, never was, and never will be her real competition. Watch the money pour into the Republican candidate in the fall, watch it pour into Republican House and Senate candidates, that's why Democrats want it gone.

Bernie Sanders is holding a townhall meeting at the University of Houston tomorrow, I'm planning on attending :D

Idk why you guys are citing low % as a reason Sanders will lose. Wasn't he at like 5 percent in April and is around 25 now? We still have many months to go.

Because he announced he is running that would usually give a runner a boast and of course other things. But most polls( not online ones) have him at mid teens- high teens a little more than a month or so. That didn't change much .

I'll preface this by again saying I'm not a Sanders supporter, and don't think there's anything wrong with supporting Hillary long term. Ultimately most of us will be voting for her in November 2016, and if you're a liberal who refuses to because your perfect candidate didn't win you're an idiot. The stakes are too high for purity tests, with three...maybe four Supreme Court Justice seats on the line among other things.

Earlier today #BlackLivesMatter activists hijacked a Netroots townhall meeting and made it impossible for Sanders and O'Malley to have a constructive conversation.

Sanders received groans and protests for not giving "skin specific" solutions to problems facing the black community. While I understand and agree that a "rising tide raises all boats" view doesn't work as well with black people given the structural and institutional barriers we face, I still find the activists' argument to be stupid. As I stated earlier, Sanders has spent 50 years supporting:

-Civil Rights
-Criminal justice reform
-Worker protections/rights
-Jobs programs
-Voter rights (renewing the VRA)
-Education reforms
-Infrastructure programs
-Increase to the minimum wage

Can someone explain to me how the fuck none of this helps black people? What "skin specific" policy is there which only helps black people? I'm sure as hell not aware of any. The help I listed as well as others such as bank loan reforms help working class people, poor people, and the middle class. In what world does criminal justice reform not help black people, for instance? Or increasing the minimum wage. Or any host of other policies that are aimed at the working and middle class.

A few months ago Bernie was taking heat for not saying "Black Lives Matter." He's taking heat from others here for allegedly dodging a question on apologizing for slavery, among other things. This just baffles my mind and really highlights the lack of understanding and focus policy has in American politics. Giving lip service to a movement doesn't mean shit when compared to having a record of defending/supporting every tenet that movement stands for.

Wow. I really don't see what those protests can hope to accomplish, really. Bernie Sanders is nobody's oppressor. Why not go after essentially candidates who do NOT actively campaign for police reform?

I keep debating back and forth if I want to go into Dallas tomorrow for the rally. Only issue is, its in downtown dallas and I hate driving around in it.

Downtown Dallas is hell. I'm sure it will be packed either way, so you don't have to worry too much about showing up.

I went to SGC last year, which is where his rally is tomorrow. Its a nice place, just a bitch to get to. People in downtown drive too fast, thinking you know the area. Tons of one way roads that make it confusing. I dunno, ill think it over tonight.

Really? Downtown Dallas is one of the easier downtown areas I've driven through. And it's the middle of a Sunday afternoon, shouldn't be too bad. Or you could just take the train, Ziltoidia. There's a station right by the sheraton.

Anybody who supports Bernie should absolutely vote for the democrat in the general if he loses the primary, even if that's Hilary. I don't particularly like the Clintons but politicians are beholden to the people who elect them to some extent, so it's not like Hilary can just abandon her base completely once elected. I'm not expecting much other than immigration reform and new SC justices but it's still infinitely better than any republican.

That being said, Hilary supporters spewing all of their vitriol and condescension towards Sanders and anybody who likes him are as bad or worse than the most hardcore Sanders fans. Jesus Christ, just let people support him in the primary if they want to without automatically labeling them idiots, children, everything that's wrong with America, etc. I guarantee the majority of people who vote for him in the primary will vote for Hillary if she wins. The people saying they won't are almost all people who normally wouldn't vote/would vote third party anyway if he had never gotten in the race. When the general comes along, I'll be right with you trying to convince these people to vote for Hillary if she's the nominee but let people support their candidate of choice and show some enthusiasm without being an arrogant asshole for at least a few months.

Agreed with this entire post. I have no clue where this "Sanders hasn't done anything for black people" meme started.

I am actually looking for someone radical though. I don't want another Obama.

Plus, just out of principle (and solidarity with my family in Haiti I guess); I can't vote for someone that has been meddling in Haitian politics and profiteering from the earthquake.

I've noticed blacks have a problem with Bernie, and I'm not really understanding why. Joe Madison says the dumbest shit sometimes, but I love his show.

Wait, did I miss the memo? When did blacks say they have a problem with Bernie? Is this from one or two people you know or something else?

Polling indicates women and minority Democratic primary voters overwhelmingly support Hillary. Bernie has young white men and that is pretty much it.

Well shit, I did miss the memo.

I'm Black soooo......I guess I'm supporting Hilary, cause I'm supposed to.

There really hasn't been much coverage on Bernie by MSM. I'm sure once that picks up, the number of support by minorities would raise tremendously. I have yet to hear about Bernie on TV, even though CNN and others have discussed about him in the past from what i'm seeing online. Like others have said, it's not understandable why Bernie wouldn't get the support.

I think Sanders would well with black voters if he got his bio out there. Untapped market.

Yeah. Sure. The reason people of color don't agree with you about Bernie Sanders is that they're ignorant! Obviously if they knew everything about him they'd support him just as much as you. The only explanation is that they don't know as much as you do.

I feel like the black leaders/politicians are pretty much set in supporting Hillary because of the 2008 election. I feel like they think they "owe her one".

This is even better! The reason people of color don't support Bernie is that the fix is in!

Guys, the reason Bernie's only popular with white liberals right now is because he has a message tuned to white liberals. Where is he on voting rights? Where is he on child care? Where is he on immigration reform? Where is he on criminal justice reform? He's nowhere. Hillary has all that stuff front and center.

A message that focuses on economic inequality and ignores racial inequality is going to fail with people of color. That's just how it is.

What's most offensive to the shade being given to Sanders is he was actually at the location of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech as it was happening. Sanders has been for people for decades.
