Took three quick rolls, but I got: Marina, Vyse, Aika, Crazy Jane, Cathy and Nadine.

Of course the GOAT, Brigitte "Rosie" Stark, comes default as an Ace.

Chapter 7 doesn't seem that difficult.
I just got wrecked because I didn't expect the massive damage Selvaria would deal, but it seems very exploitable to just damage all radiators as much as possible before that happens and finish it in one quick turn once the final radiator pops up. If I had saved one extra lancer from getting killed in her first turn the tank would have been dead, easy peasy. Multi-turn moves are just that powerful, it seems.

Better idea:
damaging them with Lancers or the Edelweiss takes to much CP/time, its easier to walk somebody up to the tank, climb the ladder and toss a grenade into the box, insta kills the radiator.

Yeah, I guess I wasn't playing the game correctly lol

I always used Noce (bcoz Liam O'Brien), Karl, Marina, and the aces. The rest I select depending on what the area is like.

It's funny because I had Freesia, Jann and others as recruits, too. I just didn't think it made a difference.

You can't be serious.

edit: Googling this, it really works.

Finished selecting Squad 7, training and what the R&D Part. But when I went back to the Book to save, the game froze and crashed.
I'm playing it on 900p (Notebook) with the VSync off.
Any fix?

lol, I thought everyone first beat the mission with this strategy.
The ladders are there in plain sight, so why not use them
?

I always got lancers to go up the ladders to shoot them. Because of the way the mission dialogue played out I had no idea lancers/Edelweiss could actually shoot them from a distance

I finally beat Mission 7, after over half a dozen times and three hours of getting my ass kicked. All the things I adjusted while failing feel painfully obvious in hindsight
minus the Valkyra turning up
. I should feel happy, satisfaction. But I feel mainly rage. I hope there isn't another mission that force me to think and adapt. Thinking hurts.

That was the first thing I did. In fact, in my first try I wasted two points with climbing the ladder and shoot and then threw a grenade on the radiator before I knew that it has to come out first.

So what's up with the translation? I mean I don't know Japanese, but even during the first couple of cutscenes I could tell something was off. What is the best way to play this game anyway, because I feel like I'm losing some small details with the translation? Dub or sub?

The localization is just on that cusp of when game loc started getting really good in general but wasn't quite there. It simultaneously takes too many liberties and not enough of them, and the voice direction is a bit all over the place. Generally I'd stick with the English VO, though, for one crucial reason:

The battle voiceover isn't subtitled in any way, and this is how a lot of the minor characters get characterized at all.

You won't miss anything sticking to the English, and the English VO does have some really solid moments, too.

First time I play this, but going by what I read in this thread I think I got lucky with my first draw:

Was that your very first draw ever? God damn. Have fun then.

I hope there isn't another mission that force me to think and adapt. Thinking hurts.

Aww, thinking is hard :p

Most of the Imperial General fights do involve some unorthodox tactics, but none of them are ever quite as obnoxious as the Batomys, mostly because of the old "your dudes are more capable by then" chestnut.

Chapter 7 is supposed to be impossible and meant to break your will to play the game anymore right?

Somebody please tell me a step by step how to do it cuz I'm about to quit the game for good.

What's your issue?
I didn't beat it yet, but the tank itself is simple enough. I had Alicia dispatched on the east side to deal with the group of soldiers on the plateau in the first turn. Then focused fire from the trenches on the tank machine guns with three lancers. Once the radiators started popping up almost at least one side was clear of machine guns, making it easy to climb the ladder with a lancer (or apparently, a scout to grenade it) -- and use an engineer to resupply ammo. When enemy reinforcements show up my mistake was not getting all of my troops behind a wall so that the enemies wouldn't assault them in the first turn, but I could also have called in a reinforcing scout or lancer from the final command post to finish the last radiator in one turn once it shows up. Unless the enemy reinforcements starting placing themselves smarter next time.

This is the strategy I used:

- Place a sniper topleft. She should be able to kill 2-3 troops in the first turn. Once you have a free command point later, make her retreat and replace her with a lancer or engineer, whatever you need most.
- Place two shock troopers and Alicia near bottom right. During turn 1, kill the sniper southeast with one of them, and place them all in the trench just north of the sniper. They should do a good job killing troops as they move in to attack you.
- Add one engineer, and rest should be lancers. Whoever you place in the camp should move away from it during turn 1 or 2.
- During turn 1-3, you'll wanna focus on taking down the 4 side turrets on the enemy tank. That'll give you a lot more mobility.
- When Selveria arrives, she will take down two people immediately. It seemed a bit random who she chose for me. Remember you can leave units on the ground for up to 5 turns before they're down for good. Sometimes it's best to just wait a couple of turns before it's safe to rescue them.
- Once you're able, place your tank right next to Selveria. She'll stay around the same area for the rest of the mission, and you can block her line of sight to your troops.
- You'll want an engineer close-ish to your tank for most the mission in case it takes a lot of damage. And remember to to never let the tank's weak spot be exposed as you position the tank to block Selveria.
- Remember to shoot down the three ruin walls whenever you have the chance, but only the first one is important to shoot quickly.
- I actually barely used the tank in this mission. I relied heavily on my lancers to deal damage.

Rest should be fairly self-explanatory. Once you find a way to deal with Selveria, dealing with the enemy tank is pretty straightforward. You can use grenades to destroy the radiators, or just shoot it with lancers (which is what I did, and that's the primary reason why I had at least 3 lancers on the map at any given time). Since all radiators become armoured once you destroy one, you can make sure to damage others before you destroy one, making it easier to finish destroying the others later.

I had to do the mission 4 times on PC before I beat it. I died in really stupid ways 3 times (I messed up the positioning of my tank) so I feel like I could have beaten it at any attempt. In my final attempt it actually felt easy to do the mission overall.

It's worth noting chapter 7 is one of the hardest missions in the entire game. You'll have an easier time with missions after this one. Although there's plenty of challenging missions later on in the game.

I am no expert, but I finished the mission a few minutes ago with A Rank, after I struggled for hours.

My Deployment:
Upper Camp
Edelweiss
2x Lancer (One was Largo)
1x Engineer

Lower Camp
2x Scout (One of which was Alicia)
1x Shocktrooper (Rosie)
1x Lancer

1. Take out the Infantry in the northeast with a scout and Rosie. The scout can kill the enemy scout and the sniper and retreat afterwards in the southeast camp. Rosie kills the two Shocktroopers and the Lancer and then goes as far to the temple as possible (since at that point she won't have enough movement left to fully retreat. If she is too close to the ledge she could get killed by the tank turrets). You can retreat her later when you have too much points over.
2. After this you should have five points left. Use the Edelweiss and turn her around. At no point should her rear be left open to the tank. Destroy as many turrets as possible. But keep attention of your Lancers. Don't let them end in the trench. They need too long to climb out when under fire. It's really bothersome. Place them behind your tank.
2.1. The Turrets need 2 hits from a tank (4p), 3 hits from a Lancer (3p) or 1 hit from a tank and 1 hit from a Lancer to be destroyed (3p). Alas: don't shot twice with the tank on the same turret.
3. Use the Lancer from the Bottom Camp to attack the tank from the right side. When he is almost finished draw the Lancer away and shoot all the black stone thingies. Then place the Lancer somewhere in the ruins in the south.
4. Every time the enemy tank encounters a wall obstacle it shoots it and opens it's radiators. It will take some time from destroying all turrets until it finally is at a wall. Use the time to deploy units in to the ruins. Let nobody stay in the middle ledges, since the Valkyria will run through their to get to the tank and just slaughter everything away. Your people are save behind the walls. Put the Edelweiss in the northwest corner.
4.1. I destroyed the radiators with scouts or the engineer throwing a grenade into them after climping the ladders.
4.2. I had a sniper, three lancers, a Shocktrooper and an engineer in the ruins when the I destroyed the second radiator and enemy reinforcements arrived. I sniped a few of them and waited until the Valkyira passed my troops and was next to the tank until I used the Shocktrooper to take out the enemy foot soldiers.
5. With only the tank and the Valkyrie left, hide your troops behind ruin walls. The Valkyrie will do nothing if she does not see any enemy she can attack directly. So just wait until the tank is exposed and then destroy the last radiator (walk around the tank without passing the Valkyrie. Even seconds of eye contact could end up with your soldiers dead). At this point you should have maximum actionpoints and can take out all your lancers and put them in locations where they can see the tank, but not the Valkyrie (that is important, she is damn deadly). I got the tank with three lancers with full ammunition and two shoots from the tank in one turn.
5.1. Don't mind that the tank is so far away, the enemy tank is so big, that you can hit it easy even from that distance. It is placed their to be protected against the enemy canon and maybe the reinforcement lancer. After all you instantly loose the mission when the Edelweiss is destroyed.

I hope that helps. Just my personal experience and maybe not the top notch strategem. Was worth A-Rank though.

I'd like to add that its best to hide your troops behind the walls, Selvaria will want to regroup with the Batomys and will take down anything in her path except the Edelweiss which you can use as shielding. Also its best to take out the radiator on the left side of the Batomys first since it is oriented towards where the reinforcements will come from while the other are oriented towards safer areas.

Come on, it's not that hard. Just imagine playing it before you knew you could save mid-battle :p (took 3 complete tries from the start but still).

An important turn-saving hint:
You can take out each turret at that point with one shot from the Edelweiss and one from a lancer. That's the most CP-efficient way, while also saving lots of ammo compared to 3 lancer shots.

It's alright, this IS a very difficult mission. As people said, probably the most difficult in the game given the status of the soldiers at this point. I hope you will carry victory home with the different ideas and ways of doing this mission. :)

The audio sounds low-quality to me.

Yep. The patch didn't actually fix the muted sound effects during battles.

Edit: Apparently it should work when you downmix the 5.1 audio to stereo, according to what I've read in Steam community hub. Though I'm using 5.1 headphones and it still sounds too muffled. Will try downmixing next time.

I'm not getting the muted sound effects, just the actual fidelity sounds low to me.

I always use stereo.

It differs from soundcard to soundcard. Read the description in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ku1ZBwB7Ghs
It's about Dark Souls (which isn't necessary anymore) but should work for every other game.

Of course you need to have a sound card that supports such a thing. But that shouldn't be a problem. Even most onboard cards can downmix.

I'm not getting the muted sound effects, just the actual fidelity sounds low to me.

Oh well. You probably don't have that problem then.

Well I think I am actually pretty close to saying fuck it.

Nothing I do does any good. Everybody gets killed and I cant actually achieve anything I try and set out to do, like taking the upper base or taking out all the turrets on one side.

And of course somebody telling me that its not *that* hard just makes me want to quit all the more because then I just feel like I'm a fucking idiot who obviously isn't smart enough to play the game in the first place.

The turres are deadly, but they have dead angle. Just stay close to the tank itself and don't go to close to the turrent and your lancer will be fine. They also dont do much damage tivthe Edelweiss. Use her as shield for your lancers to move into the dead angle.

What I don't get is the upper base thing. You don't have to take any base.

I think the biggest 'a-ha' moment for this game for me, was realizing it played less like an SRPG and more like a board game and once you understood that some of the mechanics in VC wouldn't make sense for a regular SRPG/Tactical game and you started to capitalize/exploit them, things became a lot easier. Stuff like:

1) A single unit being able to fire as much as you had CP (as opposed to one unit being limited to his own Time Units/Action Points/etc)
2) Ragnaid, hence healing being unlimited, as long as you had CP to use it (Most tactical RPGs are limited by how much HP you have, or how much you can heal, or your healing throughput, etc.)
3) "Limited" ammo is all but limited. An engineer walking up to multiple units will fully replenish all them. Being on a flag will fully replenish them. Even otherwise, rockets, mortar and ESPECIALLY NADES will replenish one per turn.
Jann can literally pull extra ammo out of his ass randomly.
(This means explosives are -not- as limited as say XCOM. Throw as many as you want)
4) "Cover" doesn't really make sense in that as long as you're crouching, you can't be headshot. Not specific to Ch7 specifically, but this mechanic is important for Shocktroopers (or Lancers. God bless you Jann) rushing a capture point
5) Having Rosie/Alicia/Largo on the field, even if they don't do anything, gives you more CP per turn

edit: replaced RPG with rocket for clarity

Well, I got that crash after getting your troops as well.

I've seen so many others whose game crashed and now I'm curious why it never crashed on me. Were you running the game higher than 4k? Playing in windowed mode? Forcing driver level vsync? Made changes to the game in NV control panel?

Try this.

It is one of the hardest missions in the game, so don't give up. We won't tell anyone if you keep 2/3 save slots to make sure you can roll back to a couple of turns ago :p

I can take out the side with my tank and lancers, but the other side is just fucking murder. I don't stand a chance. I go up the slope and I can take out some guys, but once the first turn is over and the enemy tank moves in, any move I do just gets me killed immediately. You don't have to take out all turrets in the first turn. Do the infantry first. Some people said Sniper, but I say, use a Scout and a Shocktrooper. Should use up 5 points, 1 for each enemy. Then you have 5 left to move your tank and fire three times with a Lancer. Should take out 1,5 turrets. Have you tried my detailed write up?

Ah yes, even forces inside the trenches crouched will take some serious damage from the mgs on the Batomys. I stopped moving my units their and instead use the ruins for cover. Try to move a shocktrooper or 2 inside the ruins, also instead of deploying one at deploy screen you can deploy them from the bottom right base as the game starts. Can be handy to deploy a sniper and scout from here. Secondly engage the enemy on your turn if possible and hide otherwise.

Also does anybody have a screenshot of the overview map from chapter 7? Not talking about the one from the mission screen but from ingame. Already finished it so I can't take it myself.

Alright gents, I'm thinking about buying this. Before that I'd like to ask some questions(normally I'd browse the thread but it's 43 pages long):

a) How anime is it?
b) Any techinical problems I should be aware of?
c) If I buy this at full price do you guys think Sega will give me 120 fps Vanquish one day?

Thanks.

If you want a video guide (at really bad quality), you could watch my stream archive of when I beat the mission earlier today: http://www.twitch.tv/sectus/c/5484421 (mission starts at around 11:00)

I think my run of the mission went pretty smoothly, and that's with me being a bit unlucky (like the enemy throwing a grenade at my units in the trench. In my previous attempts, my units would shoot down the enemies before they did anything useful) and doing some some things a bad way (
like shooting the radiators rather than throwing a grenade
, and having really poor ammo management).

As someone dislikes very "anime" animes (as in useless boobies, horrible humor, fan service). This has none of it. Instead it just has fantastic art, a cool story, freaking fantastic gameplay and is cheap to boot.

I can only recommend it.
