Valve hands out gift wrapped bans in DotA2

Valve has sent out a present to every Dota 2 smurf account it was able to identify. Containing a piece of coal, these holiday presents trigger a ban upon being opened – and the developer isn’t taking any prisoners. Even the smurf accounts of professional players and streamers weren’t granted mercy, leading to some hilarious scenes when people opened these gifts during their live broadcasts.

“Your Dota account has been permanently banned for Smurfing, or other violations of the Steam Terms of Service,” the message accompanying the “Highly Toxic Lump of Coal” item reads.

What does smurfing mean?
Creating an alternate account to destroy lower ranked players. Smurfs generally ruin the online experience because this person is so above the league he’s playing in, he can solo carry a game to dunk on fools.

Imagine in say valorant , if Tenz was in your bronze 2 lobby. He would go 30-0 and laugh.

I wish riot would ban smurfs in all their games. Would help make them playable.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
I found this "Smurf accounts are alternate accounts used by players to avoid playing at the correct MMR, to abandon games, to cheat, to grief, or to otherwise be toxic without consequence."

Or in other words: Smurf accounts are alternate smurfs used by smurfs to avoid smurfing at the correct smurf, to smurf games, to smurf, to smurf or to otherwise be smurfic without consequence."

I love how this guy opens it, skims the coal for 2 seconds and immediately closes it asap.

It's exactly like the time I caught a guy watching porn at work. His cubicle was isolated with his back against a window, but there's space for people to come from behind him from the sides past his shoulders.

I walked up to him and said Hey and saw him watching porn on a tiny pop out window that was like 2 inches x 2 inches..... and I've never seen someone move a mouse cursor to click off a box as fast as him. LOL. It was so fast, he'd give any PC RTS pro league gamer a run for their money in mouse speed.

To this day, I never admitted to him I saw him watching it. LOL

I can't really describe the exact feeling, but looking at a lot of what Valve has been up to lately absolutely terrifies me for the day when Gabe finally retires/goes away. There are people present in this company who have established a foothold and are ever-slowly clawing at change with each passing year. This change feels very much like what I feel when I look at other companies today. This scares me beyond words. I'm not prepared for the end of Valve as I knew them, but that train is already in motion and there's no stopping it.

That's great. This dude wrote a LiveJournal blog post on Reddit that just portrayed the opposite of what he wanted. It perfectly shows how justified Valve was in banning him and why it was the right move to get this clown out of the game.

in short he acted like an asshat, his behavior score went down, he hired someone to boost it and got caught.

I dont play DOTA2 and have no idea how much 200 pts is even worth. Sounds like it barely moved the needle. Went through all that just to boost up his ranking, but got caught. lol

Valve: Stick to your guns permabanning people. Dont let any crybabies make you lift the ban. Think of it like an ass not paying taxes hoping to not get caught. If the feds catch him, you dont just let him walk with a warning. They know what they are doing with under the table shenanigans. You grill him back taxes owed and a fee on top of it. And if it's really shady stuff you get thrown in jail.

Just because it's video games, it doesn't mean penalties cant be harsh. If someone playing intramural sports does shady shit, the league suspends or bans the guy. The league doesn't say "Well, it's not like were a pro league, so who cares if he does it". You weed out the asshats.
