Restart and switch to Hard now, even that's a little too easy at times.
I dunno. I usually start on Normal for almost any game I play, even if it's easy.

Don't your weapon upgrades carry over to each difficulty? I assume it does so I'd like to do Hard/God Hard with max upgrades and whatnot.

That's not how weapon upgrades work in this game. You start fresh in each new playthrough. You lose 1 upgrade level each time you die with that weapon equipped.

Not just that, but there are no weapon upgrades in God Hard.

Huh, didn't notice that when I died.

Guess carry-over upgrades would make Hard and God Hard easier than they should be.

Kinda like no Witch Time in NSIC in Bayonetta. Nice.

He's saying that even if you don't own a PS3 or 360, you must buy this. I agree. (then buy a PS3/360)

At first it read like he didn't own one of the consoles yet is talking about it, yes.

Will do. Already got the achievement for maxing a weapon, but it's still annoying.

Seems like all current weapons lose a rank, not just the one equipped in your hand.

Got the 360 version last night.
I hear the PS3 version gets the edge this time.
I always get the PS3 games that are multi-plat because of the 360 failure rate.
Just my luck 360 usually has the better multi-plat titles. My Ps3 fails and I guess I got the inferior version. I hear the controls are more responsive on 360, is this true?
If so I'm happy with my purchase.

Can't wait to play after I get some business done.

Just finished the game for the second time. I ran through on Normal the first time and then did a Casual achievement run. Probably going to dive into the Challenges and a Hard difficulty play through next.

Everyone should try the challenges before tackling the game a second time, they are so much fun.:D

I need some help. I'm on some slow moving monorail, trying to snipe some searchlights. I don't have enough ammo to shoot them all and they end up shooting me down every time. How do you get through this part?

You should have at least four sniper rifles (unless some higher difficulty removes them, I had 4 of them on hard). Only pick up one at a time, use its ammo, then get another one. You can't get more than 10 rounds in it.

I just tried the first one and died on the fifth part. That's not what I call fun. That's annoying punishment:lol Having to start over.

all right. I had picked up all four at once to upgrade the thing!

How far am I from the end?

Finished the game two days ago. Im playing it again in French :lol
the game is kinda short, but I dont see that as a bad thing. Its so much fun that I started new game after finishing it right away.

but I was really disappointed there wasn't an option to select weapons for acts from mission select. Instead it just starts you off with default HMG, Assualt Shotgun with no upgrades, regardless of the point in the game the stage takes place.
Yeah that's kind of puzzling, although you do get a full stock of grenades, which is usually more important than what weapons you're carrying for boosting through non-mandatory fights.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-vanquish-face-off?page=3

According to this analysis, the ps3 response rate is occasionally 17ms later than the 360 version, depending on the framerate. Unless you're the type of person who can nail 1 frame links all the time in street fighter 4, you're not going to notice it. Either way, you're looking at about 100ms response time, not great for such a control oriented game, but that's what you get when you go 30 fps.

Agreed. In fact I would even go as far as to say that Challenge Mode IS the game. The mode is just so addictive. If PG ever drop any more challenges (even via paid for DLC), I'd be up on that in seconds.

On a seperate note, I was wondering if we Vanquish Players could share some tips with regards to enemies and their weaknesses to weapons. For example, the walkers (the one's manned by two gorgies, that you can jump into and control yourself) are weak to the LGE gun. Two blasts will take them out quick time. Here are all of the things I have found:

Gorgies (Red basic enemy): - Head Shot w/ Sniper Rifle. (although any gun will work).
Walkers - LGE Gun.
Small Spiders - LGE Gun
Balls - LGE Gun / Shotgun when in open state
Tanks - Rocket Launcher aimed into the exhaust pipe (the red circle).
Unknown - Rocket Launcher when in open state.
Crystal Viper - As soon as they start to teleport, mash X, if they teleport next to you, you have a good chance of initiating the QTE against them which does good damage. Follow up immediately after with Shotgun Melee attack + ARS cancel into shotgun blast and you can rip 50% energy of them fast.

There's loads more, and I would love to hear any tips you guys have.

Also, there is some tip message that is displayed about being invulnerable after the spinning backfist move. But as I have the game installed on my 360, it loads up too quickly for me to read it (lol). What is this tip, and which weapon has the backfist move?

Err.. the cigarette's purpose is mentioned in the instruction manual. It's not some big secret. But who reads manuals these days, right?

Anyway, I have a couple of issues with the scoring mechanics:

Random weapon drops from boxes, wounded allies, and enemies means you'll have to restart the checkpoint until you get the best weapon for the highest possible score in the area. This is tedious and boring, the exact opposite of what a score based action game should involve.

If you are playing for score, the death penalty is meaningless when you can exit to title every time Sam dies. Although there may eventually be a trick where dying to replenish your ammo is worth the 1000 point penalty, assuming you can't just keep reloading to get the ammo you need from boxes or enemies.

The developer credits mini-game is long, boring, and counts towards your score so you must play it every time. This is a tedious barrier to anyone hoping to play for score, and it frankly smacks of egotism.

Finally, given how important the time bonus is towards your score, I'm surprised there's no option to display your current time and how much time bonus you'll be getting at that moment.

Looks like the developers at CAVE are still one of the only console developers who know how to put together a proper scoring system that doesn't involve tedium these days. Better luck next time, Platinum Games.

You have to space out your kills to get a bonus from every kill, the time limit is about 7-10 seconds I think. the stages are so short that replaying every act multiple times is never a chore. The starting weapons and the random drops encourage variety and experimenting, besides, its still early day and no one can predict what kind of strategy will be the best. I wish there was a ghost mode to download.

You should be able to Judge your in-game time after a while. I know more or less when I am doing good and when I am not. besides, 5 minutes is never too long, so its acceptable to restart if you think you messed up.

I am in the top 10 scores for act 1-3 (on normal LOL)! GO ME

I have to say
Burns and his marines were fucking hard. Also, story finally got more interesting with the war suppose to "bring the country out of the recession."

It's the shotgun.

It seems you can easily rip off the robot parts surrounding Unknown's by using the Disc Launcher melee attack. I was surprised it worked so well to be honest. Made the fight too easy(Hard Difficulty). It gets stuck in hit stun the whole time and pow, there is the cute Unknown.

I was on that APC escort level and the freaking thing disappeared. I had to restart.

I was on a level where nothing happened after killing a boss... I circled the damn place like 10 times before watching a walkthrough. A FREAKING DOOR WAS SUPPOSED TO OPEN. Had to restart too.

Whoa, God Hard... I mean... I'm up to the area with the huge Pangloss statue. Enemies everywhere, the screen goes red when I'm hit once. Once. This is getting kind of masochistic. :p

yeah, that was a bit hard, those
marines were useless cannon fodders for the whole game were they fighting along side you but suddenly they pull out jet packs out of nowhere and kick your ass :p.
. As I said in the other thread someone should have told FOX News about this game, it could use the attention :p .

How many missions are in Act 5? I'm on mission 3 and
getting my ass kicked by the two guys who fight like Victor Zaitse (I don't believer either is him?) The game gets really hard at the end with this and the Burns fight.

Those guys weren't in the same group as the ones you were fighting with.

I got Vanquish early in the week and have finished it twice but didn't notice any cameos that were mentioned before the game came out. Anyone want to clue me in?

Just got it with the Kmart promotion! Really want to fire it up, though I'm going out with friends and need to get ready. It'll have to wait I guess =(.

I know there is a soldier name S. Mikami, which is the name of the game's producer, Shinji Mikami. Not sure who else there is.

D. Grassi, after.... Degrassi I guess :lol

and regarding enemy weaknesses-

Ball guys die in one hit to the Disk launcher, and appear to have a pretty high chance of dropping an upgrade after you disk em.

I just wanna know an easy way to take out those annoying blue jetpack bastards.

I think I've hit a brick wall.

I'm at 3-4 at the beginning where you
are on the monorail and have to snipe the searchlights.
The problem is that I keep running out of ammo.

Is this a common problem?

Ok question. I'm already replaying the game and haven't died and I'm on act 2. So I figure I'll try for the don't die trophy. Now if I do die and just chose instead to restart the mission, does that death count against me?

All Gorgies will go down at the instant their head is shot off.

No.

I continued my Hard mode run yesterday. You can look for me on the leaderboard. SYSTEM-Turn-A (PSN).

Pretty sure restart doesn't count deaths.
