Well this looks like hot trash. It's like all the check marks to make it for "modern audiences". Race swapping, making people gay or lesbian, trying to be edgy humor, but comes off as cringe and not funny at all.

has anyone ever actually heard another human being audibly laugh at this sense of humor? I'm being pretty genuine here and I don't mean have you seen an influencer reacting for camera or something dumb like that. I mean like a regular normal human being, you know like your parents or a sibling or friends etc?

i think back to watching south park with mates in uni and literally falling over in hysterics or seeing older comedies with my grandfather (tv skits) which don't quite appeal to my sensibilities but seeing him fall over watching those comedies from their generation. But I have never seen anyone physically and audibly laugh at "modern" humor or have that real guttural reaction where it feels like you can't stop laughing because it is so funny, the best you'll get is a "hah" or some narcissist loser doing a clap. It always baffles me when i try and think who this style of comedy is actually for.

With all the critic-proof armor it has going in, it must be really terrible to get this low of a meta-score.
When this results in yet another destroyed franchise Mindy Kaling will continue to fail upward with her humor that went stale nearly a decade ago.

From the reviews I read, it largely centers around how unlikable Velma as a character is. One review mentioned that the bits that are actually funny, could go on any show and have no real connection to the source material. Lots of stale/flat humor in-between. Another, I think IGN, said the show too often asks why not and never why. That's probably the best burn I read in reviews.

Well, with damn near every show wearing that armor these days critics are finally having to circle back around to, you know, ACTUAL CRITICISM rather than the reflexive "there aren't enough brown or TSLGTBQIA++++ folx" drumbeat they have been wailing on for the past few years.

Velma looks Indian, and they made Fred a dumbass, Daphne a bitch, and Shaggy is a stoic Black guy instead of a creaky drugged up doofus. They forgot about Asian representation..... oh wait Constance Wu does the voice of Daphne.

Also, not funny at all. Going by the clip, it's changed into a teenage show with quippy dialogue.

This show is done after one season.

I've never seen her outside of anything besides The Office. From what I've read, it's basically that character in every other show of hers. The Office was alright, but I fell off sometime around the 4th season. I have zero interest in following any of those characters to any other show.

From what I read they somehow make it an effort to make all the rest of characters worse in terms of personslity than Velma, even though she's bad already. I remember reading one line that the review actually agrees that she says something like "I can't feel better unless I make another woman feel bad". Not entire sure if he was talking about Velma or Daphne here.

I don't think it will affect the franchise. They did give it the modern Disney treatment but if there were plans to distribute this to, let's say - blu-ray; Warner isn't investing more into distribution for this turd. If anything, maybe this will give them a push to do a Scrappy Doo comeback. Everyone hated Scrappy...not now.

It's just more Mindy kaling. She has a distinct style of comedy that she thinks will appeal to the masses... It doesn't. Very cutting humor that can border on... (I hate to say it) male dislike/hatred.

I've seen enough of the Mindy project to know that her character is often wrong about something but instead of learning a lesson from it or taking responsibility it's that her male coworkers are some how to blame. I don't know how Danny (coworker and love interest) would put up with it.

She can definitely be funny but there's an underlining anger or bitterness to her humor that is a big turnoff. Make fun of men all you want but have the foresight to not make every guy the enemy. It's weird.

Like the principal on Abbott elementary. You're so shitty I don't even want to watch your show. Not cringey like Michael Scott, shitty like.... Shit

It's like the original plan was to make a terrible, unfunny show that will piss off the most people and cause the most controversy, and worked backward from there and ended up settling on Scooby Doo somehow.

I kinda feel like that about most projects these days. It's as if an AI has taken over the approval process that has no care to the quality of the output, but is measuring only social media reaction.
 
I think we need a new cottage industry. A couple people to give seminars to managers and up at corporations. Week long events to train people how to say no to stupid ideas.

Workshops could use this in the materials. Scenario 1 - someone tries convincing you that modern audiences want an alternative universe Scooby without Scooby. Now practice saying no. Say it with me. No.
 
Same shit they did with Battletoads. Do your own shows and don't touch old classics. Get your own ideas for once.

Everyone knows in media, it's easier for these lazy asses to take an existing franchise and adjust, rather than make a new IP and do what they want.

I have this friend who is the kind of person who laughs at "funny" TV ads. You know, safe, corporate "humor".

Even that guy finds these trailers lame.
 
Haven't watched this yet and I have no comments regarding anything that the show did but one post here caught my attention.

The one that said this show's audience are kids. I will have to disagree. Old ips are beloved no matter what age you are because you grew up watching it as a kid. As an adult, it is still very dear to me. The same way Dragonball is a show for kids and I know a lot of old ass people watch the new one still.
 
Sounds like another great premise let down by bad writing.


Add it to the pile with Witcher, Westworld, and Rings of Power.

By all accounts she is a great writer when working with a team, such as when she wrote for SNL and The Office. It's her passion projects I find boring and stupid (and apparently, so do many others).

This new 'show' is only under the umbrella of the franchise. It's not being marketed as a product of HB's (Warner's) Scooby Doo. It's more like a "what if" fantasy spin-off fan fiction that was somehow budgeted, produced and sold with rewrites of characters similar to "the Mystery Gang." The trailer even projects this desperation for HBO to 'trust it' and adults to jump in who know very little about the original IP outside some nostalgia they may have of watching it when it was syndicated.

The OG Scooby Doo was marketed toward kids or young teens. Ruby/Spears had even confirmed this in various interviews. When HB studios pitched Scooby Doo in 1969, the audience was targeted toward children as the network felt Johnny Quest was the 'more for adults' cartoon of that time. I'm a pretty avid animation fan and I have all the older 60's/70's and 80's Scooby Doo titles on physical media. Adults can enjoy it but the humor is dry in many episodes...even for kids outside Shaggy, Scooby or guest monsters. 'Velma' was sold for adults and would likely piss kids off. Why?

Where's Scooby? That's what the kids want.

Anyway, don't give yourself grief by trying to attach it to what anyone on the OG series did (especially the late Iwao Takamoto) because Scrappy Doo is more related to the franchise than this turd.
 
It was going to get bad reviews from the internet brigade regardless if it was good or not so that doesnt concern me.

I'll give it an episode or two in good faith. It's obviously made in the same vein as the harley show and a lot of people like that. If it can get a gag or two out of me ill give it a chance. The folks who would be reviewing this on meta critic were never the audience. They want casual viewers who want an adult comedy. If it hits with them it will be a success regardless.

Similar thing happened with the teen titans go cartoon as well and despite all the vitriol for that show its lasted like 6 years.

I will say it doesn't look great. But I did chuckle laugh at the brainless joke in the trailer.
 
I kind of feel like the woke idiots are on the money. Infiltrate every beloved franchise with your ideologies. All the fans of the actual property will leave rather than give money to the Parasite embedded in their franchise's decaying corpse. The infiltrators will then abandon the property that they spent embarrassing amounts of time and money deconstructing, and the property will die or go into hiatus indefinitely. This clears the market for ORIGINAL agenda driven nonsense. It's like a nation making a new currency to swiftly deal with debt.

If everything good is terrible and canceled, then the shit we squeeze out will be the best by default!

Im aware, I'm not referring to that. Lord knows I dont always agree with critics either.

I will say this whole thing was a strange and interesting concept but it needed to be great to work and the feedback im seeing doesn't sound great, at best ok and at worst terrible. A lot of shows are like that in their first season so it may still find an audience but who knows.
