VG Leaks: BC for NextBox to be an add on, can play offline

Yep, it's another machine, but once you hook it up you never have to interact directly with it again. Single interface. It's genius. And no need to keep twice as many controllers around. No need for extra A/V inputs. And the real brilliance is people who don't want BC don't have to bear the cost of the extra silicon.

well said sir...

MS should hire you.

But what's the use of getting it for bc when all the 360 games you brought are on disks

Apparently, the system will see your Xbox Live profile and allow you to download the same 360 games (well, at least the ones that are available on Games on Demand) for free.

Edit: Read the news wrong. Putting 360 games into the Durango makes much more sense.

As said, New Xbox & Xbox Mini are in naming bad deals, sure marketing can help out, and MS knows how to hype and promote things properly.

TBH after a certain point if people REALLY want BC on a new device they should pay for it. Why should a new consoles development be compromised because people demand BC on the new hardware?

MS is killing two birds with one stone here, making the XBM a standalone TV device and have BC when added to the 720/Durango, how is this bad? It's really smart business.

Hey look, GAF was wrong. It's uncanny how often a strident and rambling Amir0x post is an indicator of the groupthink consensus jumping the shark as a preamble to this outcome.

What do you mean? The 360 discs go in the Durango disc drive.

Let's not turn around and jump the shark going the other way. This is still a rumor. In fact, in a way it's less credible than the previous ones because those came from multiple sources. Though I'll gladly rejoice if this is proven true.

Better thread title would be
"Can play USED games offline"

Even better
"With the time and energy wasted commenting and being angry at Microsoft over a wrong rumor, GAF could have built 3 pyramids and found a cure for cancer".
Man, will never waste my time with 'leaks' again.

Wait, this is a leak too...ffffuuuu...

It's this weird mentality that BC is not only inherent, but deserved.

You buy a console for games built for it. Anything past that is a bonus/added value. Period.

I'm guessing the Mini will also always be in low-power/sleep mode. That way if you want to switch from playing a Durango game to a 360 game you won't have to wait for a boot sequence.

No way, disc BC is only done with Durango pairing. Only if MS do a good job Xbox Mini would help you out downloading your purchase history.

i've had all the consoles this gen crap out on me, I have a number of games that i will want to play again.. at least with a new machine I don't have to worry about my current machines breaking I have the option of newer tech..

Yep don't think this is a simple mini Xbox. Hardware redesigned to have a low power sleep mode, more ram for multitasking and more features.

Playstation thread titles change six times a minute. They're proofread by a board of linguists and their message is carefully dissected by an expert marketing team.

Xbox thread titles are left to rot like prisoners in Guantanamo Bay.

so your saying the Durango will recognize the hardware off of the Xbox tv when you connect them

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. But when you connect your Durango and 360 Mini and put a 360 disc in the Durango disc drive, the game will start playing. The 360 Mini will treat the Durango drive as its own drive.

GAF told me all that stuff about Djurangi , and now it's not even true....who am I to trust now ???

"The name's Djurangi. The 'j' is silent....and the 'i' is pronounced like an 'o' ."

Megatons for me; no online requirement and used games playable. Couldnt care less for BC.

However the strategy (two models, attached play etc.) sounds really messy. Hopefully it's just because we dont have the "big picture" yet.

First Durango positive news? First Durango positive news!

Fucking called the DD only Xbox mini over a year ago. The ultimate game sale pretty much confirmed it.

The BC twist is awesome.

Brilliant strategic move from a business perspective.

Can we go uphill from here artist?

Through which port exactly?

Won't work via USB, can't use LAN since that can be used for internet connection for the 360 (which you cannot pass through HDMI), etc.

They're going to milk every user like they've been milking them this whole generation:
- Want online? Pay
- Want BC? Pay

You sound so angry man. I hope all this venting makes you feel better?

Obviously the extra unit is aimed at people who don't already own a 360. If you already own a 360, why would you complain about BC?

Don't go there, you'll open up a can of worms about people who only have 3 HDMI sockets or people who don't physically have the space for a tiny box under their 42" Widescreen television...

I feel like it's been rumored for at least a couple years. Am I just making that up?

Makes more sense to put the Xbox 360 disc in the Durango and get the download from there.

It doesn't have to download it. It just plays the disc.

No way, disc BC is only done with Durango pairing. Only if MS do a good job Xbox Mini would help you out downloading your purchase history.

You can just import all your purchased XBL content, like with any other 360.

So I'm assuming this mini box will download the titles I previously purchased on Xbox live and allow me to play them on Durango?

Sorry if it's been covered. This thread is been moving fast.

I feel like it's been rumored for at least a couple years. Am I just making that up?

A cable box Durango to launch alongside a gaming Durango was rumored last year.

My call was very specific to an Xbox 360 mini that was DD only to keep selling alongside the Durango as a way to give ms more retail presence, and profit to offset Durango losses.

Wow!! BC for durango? Well done MS. They deserve credit for that. And it can play offline. Some positive news for MS. Brilliant decision with BC. They gave sony enough rope to hang themselves

This must be a proprietary port its using. If none of the Durango internals are doing any work, then wouldn't it require like a thunderbolt port to get that information across?
