Visions of Mana |OT| This Game Runs on Alm My Consoles

On PS5, based on the demo, use the Performance mode. Even if you have a VRR display, it drops far too often below the VRR range to be useful in Quality.
It's the same in Trails through Daybreak. I know these are just PS4 games with higher resolution, but I wish they would put a bit more effort into the PS5 versions.

Just played the prologue and explored a bit of the village afterward... I thought Eoren seemed to know a bit too much when playing the demo, but I wasn't expecting such a dark past, holy... :messenger_crying:

Dudes. I’ve been playing Mana games since sitting in a recliner under a lamp playing Final Fantasy Adventure on my Game Boy… I just learned that these creatures are called “rab-BYTES”… like because they bite or something? Ahahaha. I had never heard the name read out loud. I just always thought it was “rab-beet”. Maybe due to learning French in school.

What a wonderful game so far. I genuinely feel like I am in 1995 playing Secret of Mana. The music in particular is awesome. Too bad they didn't offer a soundtrack bonus for physical copies like NIS does.

I didn't play the demo, but I can see why they might have just dropped you into the mid game somewhere. I've been playing for hours and just now unlocked the combat to where you can do stuff other than jump and press square. It's like an entirely different game. Running around, chatting with NPCs, using a single sword spamming square for hours would not give one a real taste of the game.

Any favorite character classes yet? I’m still early, like where you are in the demo. Using Val + wind and Morley + Luna. Morley feels more fun to play but Val just hits so much harder with the great sword.

I would pay…like $5.99 for dlc that would replace the souther accent character. It’s just awful and grating. Sometimes that stuff grows on you…but I just to feed her to a mana beast.
I really like Careena's voice, actually. I find it refreshing, especially compared to the bog standard stoic female voice of Hinna. And why did they change her name from Karina to Careena? Weird.

Speaking of DLC... have you seen the prices? Yikes. It's $27 CAD just for a music add on. That is Koei Tecmo level of absurdity. The outfits are $12, I think.

Also, best settings:
subtitles off
minimap off
control help off
mission objective off

This is great that they offer these options for a more immersive experience, but for a guy like me trying to juggle several games at once, I appreciate the chests and points of interest being marked on the map. I used to love blindly exploring, and still do in certain games like Souls games and whatnot, but I appreciate not running around for 15 mins to find a chest with an acorn in it.

The chests glow from a distance! This feature is a great idea. I wonder what game they lifted this idea from, or if this is a first.

Between that, looking in obvious places, and occasionally bringing up the map with the touchpad, I doubt I have missed many.

Cross posting in the games OT as well since this is directly relevant.

Looks like the studio that developed the game for SE is being shut down. What a terrible thing to announce the day their game comes out.

Absolute shame! In my opinion they just released really good game......Its Cavia all over again.

Fuck, that’s horrible news. I feel sorry for the devs who worked hard on this game and greatly anticipated launch day, only to get laid off and their studio shut down. Awful.

By the way, anybody bothered by the transparency filter/disappearing characters when you move the camera down, there's a mod I found that works to remove it. It was originally made for the demo but it works just fine in the full retail game. I uploaded it to catbox for sharing, but there's no guaranteed length of hosting so when it's gone, let me know and I can re-upload.

Scanned with Windows Defender and Virustotal:

You just unzip it and throw the 3 files in steamapps\common\VisionsofMana\VisionsofMana\Content\Paks

Absolutely loving this game after 10 hours playing it on PC with Engine.ini tweaks to push out the draw distance and minimise LOD pop in. The game looks gorgeous even without any HDR support, the music is sublime, although a bit on the quiet side relative to the dialogue levels, and has a really fun combat system that doesn’t feel too repetitive so far. Normal difficulty is also scaled just right with some challenging encounters, though oddly not boss battles. I’ve also had a few enemy battles where I was insta-killed, such as the fight before entering the ancient temple in Chapter 2.

The icing on the cake for me though is the story and, of course, the characters who are an interesting and distinctive bunch. I even think the English voice cast is very good with no annoying accents. Careena was the one I most feared would be the whiny one but I am actually like her, I believe, southern accent. Morley is my favourite though, especially with his tragic back story. Val is the weakest of the group but even he is still engaging.

Really enjoying the whole thing and it does look beautiful. It’s a real ‘feel good’ game in my opinion.

Incidentally, if anyone is wondering where the demo fits into the full game; it starts at the last section of Chapter 1, about 4 hours into the game as I played it but I was doing a lot of exploration, side-quests and talking to NPCs, the latter of which I don’t normally do in most Japanese RPGs unless it’s for a quest. The dialogue is so well-written in my opinion that it never feels repetitive or like filler.

My copy should be arriving sometime today. I probably won't get a chance to play it until the weekend.

Absolutely sucks about the dev getting shutdown.

I bet NetEase were shocked when they saw that Visions of Mana isn't mobile Gacha game.

Yes I have done that too, playing in 4K with 130% res and all parameters at max in Gameusersettings.ini (which are either = 3 or 4), and the game is incredibly beautiful.

I really thought characters would be bland japanese clichés at first (and they kinda are), but the banter between Hina and Val is fun and engaging. I quite like more than expected considering my aversion for these clichés usually.

For everybody trying to max out Visions :

- Open the Gameusersettings.ini in the C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VisionsofMana\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor folder

Then apply /replace these settings and save the file :

[ScalabilityGroups]
sg.ResolutionQuality=100.000000
sg.ViewDistanceQuality=4
sg.AntiAliasingQuality=3
sg.ShadowQuality=3
sg.PostProcessQuality=3
sg.TextureQuality=4
sg.EffectsQuality=4
sg.FoliageQuality=4
sg.ShadingQuality=4

You can up the resolution if you want, further than the already set resolution (1080, 1440 or 4K) in the game settings. I set it at 130.0000 personnally at 4K and, with FSR2 set on quality, I have around 110 fps.

Also, you can bypass 30 fps cutscenes by simply typing F11, it will unlock the framerate. Keep in mind that you'll have to go in the options to fullscreen the game again after that.

Wait How tf do you turn the mission objective off??? I've turned everything else off.

You can also disable TAA by adding the following to Engine.ini but the game will look aliased.

[SystemSettings]
r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=0
r.PostProcessAAQuality=0

I've tried to inject AA via NVIDIA Control Panel and NVIDIA Inspector but neither worked.

I've also tried to enable NVIDIA Filters (for sharpening) via Inspector, but the only two that become available are RTX HDR and RTX Dynamic Vibrance.

sg.ResolutionQuality seems to have no effect above 100. I've cranked it way up and there was no change in visuals or performance.

WTF. This increased performance immensely for me. All the stuttering went away.

Where can I go to see a list of .ini tweaks for this?

I can safely say I'm enjoying this game even more than Trials of Mana and I REALLY liked Trials of Mana.

I also remember people complaining about OST but I'm really enjoying the sound track so far.
Just wondering, does the game and activities / etc open up after the demo portion? I am quite enjoying the demo, but just wondering if there's more to do than talk to villagers / fetch quests / combat. Even if not I am finding it quite enjoyable..just want to find out if there will be legs to the experience before I buy.

Just like Trials of Mana there are Job system which open up combat quit a bit and there are dungeons puzzles which use elemental vessel to solve them.

If you expecting FFVII Rebirth level of mini games then yeah this not that type of game.

FFVII Rebirth levels of minigame would make this a non-starter for me, but dungeons and puzzles sounds good. I'll probably bite, then.

Where can I go to see a list of .ini tweaks for this?

Go to the hidden AppData > [Your Name] Local > VisionsofMana > Config > WindowsNoEditor folder and open the Engine.ini file there.

Add the following below the existing text:

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.CreateShadersOnLoad=1
niagara.CreateShadersOnLoad=1

[SystemSettings]
r.Shaders.Optimize=1
sg.ViewDistanceQuality=4
sg.AntiAliasingQuality=4
sg.ShadowQuality=4
sg.PostProcessQuality=4
sg.TextureQuality=4
sg.EffectsQuality=4
sg.FoliageQuality=4
sg.ShadingQuality=4

[ConsoleVariables]
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdates=1
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdatesDuringGamethreadUpdates=1
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdatesEditor=1

This forces the highest graphical settings for the game with some optimisations for shader compilation to reduce stutter.

Alternatively, you can try the settings below for more specific tweaks:

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.CreateShadersOnLoad=1
niagara.CreateShadersOnLoad=1

[SystemSettings]
r.Shaders.Optimize=1
r.MaxAnisotropy=16
r.VT.MaxAnisotropy=16
r.Streaming.Boost=10
r.Streaming.PoolSize=4096
r.Streaming.FullyLoadUsedTextures=1
r.Streaming.UseAllMips=1
r.Streaming.MipBias=0
r.Streaming.HLODStrategy=0
r.ViewDistanceScale=5
r.LandscapeLODDistributionScale=3
r.LandscapeLOD0DistributionScale=3
r.LandscapeLODBias=-3
r.StaticMeshLODDistanceScale=0.1
r.MaterialQualityLevel=3
r.SkeletalMeshLODRadiusScale=0.03
r.SkeletalMeshLODBias=-2
r.LightFunctionQuality=2
r.AllowLandscapeShadows=1
foliage.LODDistanceScale=5
foliage.MinInstancesPerOcclusionQuery=65536
foliage.ditheredLOD=0
foliage.MinimumScreenSize=0.00000001
foliage.MaxOcclusionQueriesPerComponent=128
grass.CullDistanceScale=5
r.Shadow.DistanceScale=2
r.Shadow.CSM.MaxCascades=10
r.Shadow.MaxResolution=4096
r.Shadow.RadiusThreshold=0.005
r.MinScreenRadiusForLights=0.015
r.MinScreenRadiusForSmallLights=0.005
r.AmbientOcclusionLevels=2
r.AmbientOcclusionRadiusScale=1.5
r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=2
r.TemporalAACurrentFrameWeight=0.2
r.TemporalAASamples=64
r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=1
sg.ViewDistanceQuality=4
sg.AntiAliasingQuality=4
sg.ShadowQuality=4
sg.PostProcessQuality=4
sg.TextureQuality=4
sg.EffectsQuality=4
sg.FoliageQuality=4
sg.ShadingQuality=4

[ConsoleVariables]
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdates=1
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdatesDuringGamethreadUpdates=1
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdatesEditor=1

These push the draw distance for foliage etc X5 and the shadow distance X2 (any setting higher than 2 for shadows results in missing shadows on smaller objects and animals such as the dogs wandering around the towns).

On my RTX 4080 and i5-13600KF these settings still allow the game to run at 120+ fps at 1440p. Unfortunately these tweaks don't eliminate the pop in of enemies out in the field as these would require a .pak mod as those settings appear to be built into the game.

Some more performance (reduce stutter) and image quality mods.

The IQ one I think is more of a 'tastes' issue than a game issue. The game is a lot softer focus, but this mod makes everything sharp. Different people will prefer different results.

An example -

Modded:

Pre-ordered the game several days ago but won't be playing it until October.

On a related side note - can you turn off the damage numbers? Thanks.

Love that it’s a play anywhere title. Hate having to decide if I want to play a game maxed out graphically or on my couch.

Sonovabitch, my copy didn't come in the mail today. I really hope it's in the mail tomorrow otherwise Tuesday is the earliest I can expect. I really want to put in some hours into this over the long weekend.
