Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Well then game get! :D If I understand this correctly I have to update to 2.02 first and then buy Uno on the Vita? Or can I do it with my PS3 somehow and keep 1.8 until the exploit for Uno is out?

Do it through the PS3. I'm sure Uno is on the storefront there under the PSP/mini-channel.

Then download it to PS3 and keep it in bubble/installer form. When the exploit hits, update to 2.01/2.02 ASAP before Sony forces an update past that and then install it through your PS3 after the update is finished before Sony makes 2.03 or beyond required to install from your PS3.

Done.

GBA emulation seemed fine in my extremely limited testing, and others have said it works well too. SNES is where there are problems, not sure if the CPU speed options in TN-C made a difference or not.

You don't have to update if you have a PS3. Buy it on PS3, connect the Vita to the PC with OpenCMA and go into the Content Manager, go to PC->Vita, then move the USB plug from the PC to the PS3. Lets you get around the version check since it will have been spoofed already through OpenCMA. I think it also gave me an error when I tried to transfer then sat at the transfer screen for a bit, but then it transferred and installed fine.

Oh thanks you two I wasn't aware that the PS3 skips the version check while installing :D I already have UNO as a bubble though I think I might upgrade right-away then as I like to sleep in on holidays and would hate to wake up one day and see "2.04" released :P

I'm on 2.02 now with UNO and waiting.

Yay :)

Can anyone help me install FTP for Vita. It stuck extraction 0%.
here is my ZIP structure:
FTPVITA.ZIP\PSP\GAME\FTPVITA\EBOOT.PBP

Anyone care to share their ZIP when extracting the FTP for VITA

So I got everything running, and it's pretty sweet.

Question: Is there any way to bring over saves from my PSP games that I have backed up on my computer? That would be sweet... Especially for Tactics Ogre.

You can use FTP, or put the ISO files in the exploit folder and transfer it to the Vita again, then you will need to copy them to the ISO directory since the exploit directory is kind of a "temp" one (otherwise you have to retransfer it every time you transfer anything else).

The fastest way to do it if you haven't already ripped a game is to use FTP and have the (CFW) PSP plugged in to the PC with USB mode set to the UMD drive. Then you can transfer directly from the UMD to the ISO directory on the Vita with no extra steps.

And my complaint right now is that every time I've changed my CEF version, it takes even longer to get into it. MBA on TN-B was fairly fast. TN-C was slower to load, but manageable. Now TN-C Uno is really slow since you have to go through all the splash screens and everything before it gets going.

is there any guide of a step by step for a noob like me? i got the game and my vita is on 2.02 but i don't know how to install anything that's needed

Before you start!

The basic thing to understand is that the Vita will not accept any filename. The files you can copy to your Vita with the content manager need to be all uppercase, the “body” of the filename (anything before the “.”) needs to be 8 characters or less, and the extension (anything after the “.”) needs to be 3 characters. Accepted characters are also limited, so I suggest you li,it yourself to letters and numbers. In particular, do not put spaces in the file names.

For example, WAGIC.ZIP is good, but Wagic.zip is not (not uppercase), WAGIC.zip is not (not uppercase), Wagic the homebrew.zip is not (not uppercase, and more than 8 characters before the “.”). A very typical mistake for windows users is that your file will end up being named WAGIC.ZIP.zip because Windows will by default hide the extension for you. You will see it named “WAGIC.ZIP” but in reality the name will be WAGIC.ZIP.zip, which will not work.

When you have a problem in the filename, the vita will silently not copy it, and will not give you any form of error message. The only way you have to realize you made a mistake at this point is if the size of your savedata on the memory stick is smaller that what you’d expect.

Read the “before you start” section above 5 times, because this is the root cause of 99.9% of the issues people have installing homebrew with CEF.

I’m not kidding, read the paragraphs above!

Ok, so, let’s move on to prepare your homebrew. All homebrews have an EBOOT.PBP file. You need to create folders so that that EBOOT.PBP will end in a series of subfolders PSP/GAME/[your homebrew game]/EBOOT.PBP.

For example, PSP/GAME/WAGIC/EBOOT.PBP.

Don’t forget of course to include all the files from the homebrew in that folder structure. Once this is done, zip the “PSP” folder you created, and name it whatever you like, following the rules I described above (all uppercase, less than 8 characters, etc…). I personally suggest to use the “store” option for creating your zip, but I believe TN Menu handles all formats of compression. Do not use an other format of file that you would rename in .ZIP, this will obviously not work.

Once your ZIP is ready, copy it to the UNO exploit savedata folder in your CMA folder on your computer. It will look like PSAVEDATA/[random letters and numbers]/NPEH000DATA02 (this might vary depending on your exploit).

Preparing and zipping homebrews for TN CEF on 2.02
1.B PREPARING ISOS

Preparing isos and cso files follows the same naming conventions as the homebrews above, and you have to put the files in your UNO savedata folder just like for homebrews above, but you don’t ZIP them. Instead, you copy them “as is” to your UNO savedata, but keep in mind that the filename body must be 8 characters or less, and the filename must be all uppercase.

Iso naming convention for TN CEF 2.02
2. COPYING YOUR PREPARED HOMEBREWS/ISOS TO THE VITA

Copying stuff to your Vita is done using the Content Manager. We recommend you use OpenCMA to avoid bad surprises. To do this, you will connect your Vita to your computer, run the Content Manager like you would usually do to copy PSP Savegames to your Vita, and copy over your Uno savedata.

At this point, your UNO savedata contains two types of things: the exploit required to run CEF, but also your homebrews and iso files. You can have as many homebrews and iso files as you want in this folder, as long as they follow the naming rules described above. Also note that you will likely repeat this process several times, and that it is not necessary to keep in the UNO savedata isos/homebrews you have already installed. As a matter of fact, it is better to delete them from your Uno savedata on your computer to avoid copying them once again next time.

The Vita will most likely ask you if you want to overwrite the existing UNO savedata, and this is ok.

One typical mistake there is that some people will delete some files critical to the UNO exploit by manipulating the UNO savedata. If this happens, the best is simply to redownload the UNO exploit and start from scratch

Copy your homebrews to the Vita with the Uno 2.02 Vita exploit
3. EXTRACT AND RUN THE GAMES

At this point your homebrews are in zip form, on your memory stick, and need to be extracted before they can be used. The isos, them, are in their “final” form, but need to be moved by TN Menu in order to be used.

Of course TN Menu provides functionality to do both of those. Simply select the homebrew/iso you want to install, and press X. The homebrew will then be extracted. To run an installed homebrew/iso, press X as well, it will simply run. The TN menu interface is relatively simple so there shouldn’t be any issue.

4. TROUBLESHOOTING AND ALTERNATIVES

If you don’t see your homebrews zips, or isos in TN Menu, the most likely reason is that you messed up the naming convention of your zip files or isos. More unlikely, but it happens again: make sure you copied your homebrews/isos in the exploit’s savedata, and not in an unrelated savedata (this technique used to work for example with VHBL, and might work with alternate menus for CEF, but not with TN Menu as I type this).

It is also possible to copy homebrews with FTP For Vita. This is much more convenient that the whole technique described above, as you don’t need to zip anything, etc… but this also assumes you have FTP For Vita up and running, and a wifi router.

Download this.

Use Content Manager Assistant to find your PSP save file location on the PC, and put the correct save folder in there from the download (it has different versions for different regions).

On the Vita, open Content Manager use that to transfer the Uno save from PC to Vita.

You now have homebrew on your Vita. When you start Uno it will start loading the game, but cut to the CFW instead.

To install stuff, you usually get zip files and put those in the save file that you transferred to the Vita previously, and re-transfer it with the additional files in it. Then on the Vita you can choose to install it from the zip file. Basically the same thing with ISO files for PSP rips, it gives you the option to move them the "permanent" ISO directory instead of the "temporary" exploit one, so you don't have to retransfer them over and over. If you do it this way you need to make sure the filenames and extensions are all uppercase and less than 8 characters, preferably with just letters and numbers, nothing else.

You can also install FTP and use that to transfer things over your network. OpenCMA is another useful app, it mods CMA so you can still use Content Manager even when you're not on the latest firmware.

And like I said above, the fastest way to get UMDs on the Vita is to just use FTP and transfer them directly from the UMD via CFW PSP connected to the PC.

Edit: Beaten, oh well.

thanks a lot, usual GAf courtesy, amazing!

Wow, that was way easier than I thought. Got it working with my saves from my PSP games. Very sweet stuff.

If they got PSX games working really well, I'd be quite happy to relegate my PSPgo to certain situations.

Anyone managed to get ZHP to work with this? Tried dumping it twice and using both iso emulation modes but no joy

You can use FTP, but it won't explore the whole memory card, just what's used for the PSP emulator.

Cheers that seems to have done what I want

I have a question for you guys. I've not really done it, or experimented with doing it but how exactly can you transfer games with DLC to the Vita? I was thinking of playing Valkyria Chronicles II on my Vita, as seeing as I'm on 1.81 I can't just download the content to the Vita. I have the DLC on my PSP. All I've been able to get working on Vita was PSPfiler or whatever that's called, but I am curious here. I can't figure out how to get FTP to work.

Has anyone been able to play any GBC games? I want to play my old copies of the Sorcerer's Stone RPG and Dark Duel Stories again.

So what is the deal with this? Since we are just using an exploit through a game and not modding the firmware is there any way for Sony to see you are using the exploit and ban you?

How do you copy the literal SAVEDATA from the PSP? I am not having a lot of trouble with the ISOs (Tactics Ogre doesn't seem to be working for me though. Probably just the ISO itself) I want to play Dissidia 012, but I don't want to unlock the characters again. Also, what do you do for seplugins?

I don't remember how I transferred my PSP saves but I recall it being pretty simple. Should just be a matter of moving the save directories from the memory card to the PC with the PSP, and put them in the folder CMA reads from.

And seplugins works the same way as PSP I think. The FFT slowdown fix is confirmed to work.

I can't seem to get ANY homebrew to work. I've tried to get Filer and a GBA emulator up, but neither show up on my selection menu. PSP ISOs work just fine though (except for Tactics Ogre, but that's probably because it has a patch).

My file looks like this:

Docs\PSVita\PSAVEDATA\weird letters and numbers\NPUH10027DATA00\FILER.ZIP

Inside FILER.ZIP, there is a directory that goes:
PSP\GAME\FILER\EBOOT.PBP

Any ideas?

I messed with the previous exploit but yes they should work fine on the GB/GBC emulator, I believe its called MasterBoy (ver 2.x or something)

I would advice you to learn the FTP method. Its a bit slower but its easier to transfer homebrew to PS Vita. You basically just drag and drop the files into the PSP/GAME/ folder and thats it. No need to rename any zip files or worry about 8 character limit.

And those getting homebrew on their Vitas, please get Cave Story PSP port. Its so good.

i can only install one game, when i try to install another it says theres not enough space on the memory card but i have more then the required space, any solutions for this?

I wondered one thing, since SE plugins and all that works why does nobody seem to work on getting the actual PSP XMB to start instead of the TN Menu? Sure it does everything we need though having the XMB would make things way easier to use in my opinion. Or is it simply impossible since the Vita's PSP emulator omits some parts? I'm just curious :)

Guys please help me get Homebrew working. I am utterly baffled at this. ISOs work just fine.

It makes no sense at all... I put FILER.zip in this directory:

C:\Users\Admin\Documents\PS Vita\PSAVEDATA\bde2e48a7b19812c\NPUH10027DATA00

FILER.ZIP contains these directories:

FILER.zip\PSP\GAME\FILER\EBOOT.PBP

What am I doing wrong?!

And what do I do for seplugins and Savedata?
