Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Time trails aren't quite what they are. They're time trials like levels, but they are time trials that remix the levels with new enemies/traps/obstacles/patterns. They're also the most challenging content in the game, which as a whole is actually easier than Origins. So the Vita version missing out on the most challenging content is a shame.

There must be a possibility of getting a future DLC for the missing content, right? Here's hoping for an official announcement regarding a patch/DLC from UBIsoft soon.

EDIT: Top of the page for the first time! BUY Velocity Ultra. Worth every penny.

Kind of regretting not getting Dynasty Warrior Next on the last sale. Saw quite a number of people playing it on my last Vita club meeting and it looked good.

Although the gameplay still looked same old, same old though.

Wait. You have a vita club meeting? As in you have an actual club where you meet people in real life and not just a couple of online pals?

That's pretty cool.

Nay for me, the game is very good looking, but i hate that stupid battle system, the time always passes but you can choose you action only after your turn(you can't select the action before your turn), this means that you have to select the character then choose the action, if the action is a spell then you have to browse a long list where the most powerful spells are the last ones in the list(somewhat hilarious when you finally reach the end of the list but you have not enough mana to use the spell lol!), in the meantime the enemies, that obviously have no problems of selection, can act while you are selecting.
Maybe it's just me but i like full real time battle system or full turn based ones, i hate this kind of bad mixes that make the game harder just with controls.
I don't like random encounters too, they seem to be time based, so better move to cover the greater distance between an encounter and the next one.

Semi ok - i found it extremly ancient and outdated but playable.
Even though these comments are negative, it actually makes me want to buy it more :P Really just want an old school-ish RPG to play. After playing Persona 4 Golden (oh god I've clocked 95 hours and I still haven't even seen and done everything), I just started to miss random battles, cliche storylines, and typical leveling systems. Really wish I had just bought the thing during that FF sale a whiles back. I did buy FF9 then but I just can't seem to get into it.

I just feel the urge to buy something even though I still have a backlog of games to play.

Yeah, we have one. Sometimes we gather together with the 3DS people too--in fact, since I also have a 3DS, I also sometimes join their meeting too.

On meetings when Vita and 3DS people gather together I usually just jumped around here and there, hahaha. Playing stuff like Soul Sacrifice or Mario Kart 7. When we all gather together we have probably around... 50 to 60 people maybe?

All the Vita and 3DS folks are really friendly with each other too, which totally reinforce my belief that the Vita vs 3DS war fanboys have here in GAF and any other place in the Net as completely and totally bonkers.

Prolly around 10 or 15 people for Vita. Played some Dragon's Crown together yesterday :) --although the DC's physical R3 fuckup prevented some from playing together, shameful >:(

SquareEnix trademarks Final Fantasy Type 0-2.

Although I'm not putting too much thought into this, but if it actually happens, here's hoping that the game lands on the Vita (and outside of Japan!).

Uh huh.

When I think Square Enix nowadays I always think "Mobile" or "iOS".

I mean, you have: Square Enix developing exclusively for Vita--that's strike one. And it is getting released outside Japan!--that's strike two.

Fully expect Mobile or iOS first, just so it doesn't get too hurtful later :\

About to download the Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time demo.

Anyone played Sly on the Vita? How is it? After (cross) buying Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault specifically to play it on the Vita, I've learned to ask before I do that again.

So I just got a 32GB card. Is there any easy way to transfer the data from my 8GB card to the 32?

Back up your Vita to your comp then re transfer it to your new card.

I suggest going out to watch a movie or something while doing it because it's slow as fug

Please tell me you live somewhere in Southern California, because that sounds awesome.

It's a fantastic game! The port is way better than the FFA port. It's native res and the colors look beautiful on the vita. The only problem is that its at 30 fps as opposed to the 60 fps of the ps3 version. The framerate also isn't locked at 30 and frequently dips below it.

Other than that, the game is really really good in my opinion. I think it's the best game in the Sly Cooper series :).

Would you recommend it to someone who disliked the demo?

Nah, still includes the full campaign, the Back to Origins levels, and the challenge mode, so it still has a good 80-90% of the content, and we still need to wait until the release to make sure it doesn't include those invasion stages via a day one patch or something.

Are the Back to Origins levels just ported Origins levels? Are the enhanced in any way (Legends lighting, etc.)?

If they're just vanilla Origins levels, I'd rather they had been cut instead if invaded levels. I already have Origins (since Vitas launch).

Unfortunately, we are separated quite far.

Like, 12 hours time-difference far, hahaha.

I *am* actually kind of surprised this is not something people do more, though. I mean, Vita/3DS must have a bigger number of players in the US, right? So people on the major cities in the US should have an even easier stuff to arrange stuff like this compared to us.

They are updated, yes. Even so I'd much rather lose them than actual new content. Seems really silly to cut the invasion levels and not the Origins levels if they for whatever reason felt SOMETHING must be cut.

Well that really depends. What didn't you like about the demo?
To be honest, I don't recall. I think the combat was dull, and I disliked the robots spotting me and having to deal with that. I tried it back when the demo was first available, so it's difficult for me to pinpoint my gripes. But I love open world platformers, so I really want to like it.

Yup. New art style and lighting is full effect, as well as extra Teensies to find and rescue.

Thanks for the thorough comparisons. I appreciate the update, visually - but still....

I'd rather have had new content. I'm hoping they'll see a blowback and add in the invasion levels as dlc

Well the intro mission lets you play as Sly, Bentley and Murray, but in the rest of the game you're playing mostly as Sly. Sly's gameplay is focused on stealth and combat engagements are discouraged.

The combat really doesn't change fundamentally throughout the game, but you get new powerups as well as costumes that have different abilities for Sly.

I'd say it's a great game and you should definitely pick it up, especially if you have the chance to pick up the PS3 version for dat sweet cross buy.

Also you should support Sanzaru for all the love they put into it. They bested Sucker Punch at their own game!

After I setup my new card Ill redone load the demo and give it another shot. I really hope this resurgence of 2D platformers leads to the return of 3D platformers, and Id love to do my part in that.

Based on that review, the missing invasion levels really hurt the flow of the game.
I won't be buying it until they fix it, not on Vita.
And I won't support the game with a full price purchase either... $5 on Steam.

This.
They should've just released the "Back to Origins" levels as a free download. Problem solved if it had anything to do with space.

Of course, I would too. I would ASSUME, if I had to guess, they cut the invasion levels because they are far less content than the Back to Origins stuff. All I want to know is that they ran out of time or out of space and are putting them in via a patch. Who knows. Or blowback if they intentionally left them out.

If you're waiting until it's $5 on Steam, then you obviously didn't want the game very bad.

Edit: Double Post. Sorry.

Nah. If they hadn't fucked up the Vita version, I'd buy it day 1 or close to it. I'd definitely be willing to pay full price... I loved Origins and Ubisoft's Vita support. I bought the first game at least 6 times for crying out loud.

This is a similar situation to the ones that caused me not to buy Velocity Ultra or Muramasa at full retail. There were circumstances with each of them I wasn't willing to support.

Simply put, I vote with my money... and if I don't like something about the game, I'm not going to buy it at full price. Cutting out 30+ levels without an explanation? That currently puts the game on the "wait for a big sale" list. Especially since my gaming PC is still under construction.

Well, I had to ask. :P

I've yet to find any such group of people near me who get together to game on a regular basis, and I've looked into it quite a bit. :/ One day...

Whenever I use Near it routinely finds 55+ players around me.

Just out of pure curiosity, what were the circumstances for those games that made you not want to support them?

I agree with you on the desire to not support shitty business practices. I love my vita and I'm tired of it always getting the short end of the stick :(.

That's fair. But if I refused to support any decision I deemed unethical or against what I feel is right, I probably would miss out on a lot of great games. I'm not happy that these 28 Invasion levels are missing, but the game seems like an absolute slam dunk on Vita besides that, and we still don't know the full story about the those levels. Native res, 60fps, full Challenge mode that will make the longevity of the game much longer than Origins ever was. I'm not happy, but I'm happy.

Well, with Velocity Ultra, it wasn't anything Futurlab did. That one was on SCEA. Between the fact that SCEE gave it away on PS+ ON RELEASE and SCEA delayed the release in NA for months with their *amazing* approval process, I decided I no longer needed it day one and would wait for a good sale or it's inclusion on PS+. Fortunately, I received a code from PSNstores as part of their contest.

With Muramasa, I was not keen on the updated/new translation that Aksys did... after seeing the translation and finding it not to my liking, I went (again) from day one purchase to "when it goes on sale". I watched a few playthroughs of early levels on YT to see if the overall translation was as bad as some of the stuff I saw in the comparison shots posted on Siliconera and it wasn't quite as bad as I imagined, so when it was on sale a week or two ago for $20, I figured I would support that... a happy compromise between not supporting it at full price but still supporting the fact that Aksys brought it to Vita.

I can understand your thinking on it.
But for me, when you combine the missing Invasion content with the description of how the Murphy levels work on Vita/WiiU and I'm really not on board.
If they turn around and make the Invasion levels available and offer some sort of "you can play the Murphy levels either as Murphy with touch OR as Rayman controlling Murphy with the O button as on PS3", then I'll be back on board.
Taking away the time trial type levels and having a considerable amount of the game (based on the comments I've seen in the Vita thread at least) be Murphy levels that are just touch interactions as I understand it are huge to me.

--

Y'know, now that I think about it, Ubisoft was kind of involved in that fiasco with Cloudberry Kingdom where nobody could tell me if it was going to be a cross-buy title, which lead to me NOT buying it during play and will probably lead to me not buying it ever unless it's for $<5 on Steam someday. Ubisoft seems to be making all sorts of decisions that I love lately.

See? I don't even have any near me. Find those 55+ people and tackle them to submission to join you!

You know of any other Vita Communities in Singapore? I only visit GAF.

But yea, maybe we can get a bunch of people and meet in a cafe and play some local coop some weekend. That'll be cool.

You folks should probably try creating a Facebook fan page. My fellows are meeting and coordinating together mostly using Facebook.

I envy your group of handheld aficionados. Here in Northern California, I feel like a minority gamer...in that I play games, other than the uberpopular Call of Duty and Madden :0(

In fact, I prefer handhelds 90% of the time, for the past couple if years.

we have a decent group over at sgamers.org and gameaxis i think.
but I can always try to set up a Facebook page (:

I'm having dinner with some guys from Japan Ministry of Trade and Industry tonight. They are keen to know what Singaporeans think about Japan (culture etc) in the context of Singapore. I would be telling them largely about games... (like hopefully they open a Sony PlayStation HQ in Singapore to oversee the SEA region (and maybe even put us in the R1 region) and get Nintendo to stop shafting us and open a Nintendo HQ in Singapore to oversee SEA too) MAYBE, if we can get a Vita group up, we can see more promo events within Singapore.

EDIT: It will be nice if SE ported Bravely Default to Vita.. :( (a man can dream right?)

Because you and a couple of other anal guys won't buy it?
Please.

Edit: just read your last post and boy, you might want to switch to a hobby you don't take so personal.

I'm perfectly fine with my "hobby", thanks.

And I think it's more than "me and a couple other anal guys", but hey, that's just my take on it.

Should I even bother marrying people in Little King's Story? Don't see much a point to it and it's cumbersome to pick out the people that have fallen in love to get married

If you're a monster that doesn't support love you don't have to.

i do not know a legitimate answer
