I'm trying to be more productive with school, and not get into the habit of studying so late at night. Trying to get up earlier, but I always turn off my alarms without even being conscious of it. I even put it on the other side of the room and all of a sudden, 3 hours go by and I'm still in bed.

What times do you guys go to bed in order to wake up really early? I'm talking 5 am.

I normally go to bed at 7:30ish so I can wake up at 4:30 on work nights.

It's never hard, it just takes time to adjust. You WILL start off with crappy sleep at first.

10pm. I'm a west coaster who works east coast time. I don't even need an alarm anymore to wake me up.

It gets easier, man.

What's harder is adjusting your sleep schedule accordingly!

You're gonna wanna get real used to going to sleep early. I'm an insomniac and I just started a new job (gotta be there at 6) so the last three weeks of my life have been pure hell. It's starting to get better only because I'm finally starting to fall to sleep at 10 when I go to lay down, instead of just kind of rolling there angrily all night until my alarm goes off

Waking up is easy

Going to sleep on time and not being a zombie the next day is the hard part

^^^

Just started doing this myself so I could work out before work instead of after. It's tough but I'm getting used to it.

The harder part is going to sleep before 11 pm. But I'm getting used to that, too.

I go to bed around 1-1:30 am and wake up at 6 am, every day. Been doing that for the past 25 years or so.
Got nothing to do with work or kids, I just got used to it way back when I was in the army, and it works for me. I don't evem set the alarm, my body somehow knows it's 6.

I get into bed between 10 and half 10, then read until around 11 at the very latest. I wake up between 5 and half 5 without fail, even on weekends.

it's habit. do it a few times and soon you will start naturally waking up at 5AM

Yup - takes anywhere between 7 and 21 days to form a habit, but then it's locked in.

I'm up at 5 on weekdays for work. It sucks but I have been doing it for 10+ years now. I'm in bed by about 930 every night.

get some go again
i have to be at work by 2:30 am so this isn't really all that hard. just get used to going to sleep at a certain time and do it. you might also want to black out any curtains in your house so its as dark as possible.

It sucks initially, but if you want a healthy habit to stick you must force yourself through the tough beginning.

I went from waking up at 4PM everyday and falling asleep at 8AM, to waking up at 3:30AM and falling asleep at 8PM six months ago. It was really difficult the first few weeks, but I had a partner who had to wake up at the same time, so I had some support on the days when I felt like going back to bed.

Keep it up, you'll get there.

I wake up at 5:15am for work.
Before I moved closer to my workplace two months ago I had to wake up at 4:30am.

edit: I got to bed at like 10:30pm or 11:00pm

I´ve been getting up at 5 am for almost 2 years now for my job.

No routine yet.

I try to go to bed between 9 and 10 pm. Do it most of time. Then one day, i hate myself for having so little time between getting home and going to sleep (~ 3 hours) and just watch some show or whatever and stay up til 12 or 1 am, sleep 4-5 hours and fuck myself over for the rest of the week.

As for how i do it, i like vidya games, food and to not be homeless

This was me the last few weeks. My schedule isn't always the same and it varies from day to day.

I was waking up at 430am and getting home at 5/6PM. I'd try to go to bed around 8/9 to get enough sleep. Man that's tough.

I get up at 9 pm. I try to go to bed around noon, but lately I haven't been sleeping well so 2-3 is more in line with bedtime. I don't recommend it.

I have inconsistant hours throughout the week so one day I have a 7am then have a 1pm. Doesn't matter, will always go to sleep around 12-2am lol

They're usually nice enough to not schedule an opening right after a closing but sometimes they miss that...

I like getting every last second of sleep. It seems like a waste to be spending my precious time spending extra time getting ready for work. But then again I don't have kids and I'm not in my career yet.

I get up @ 5:30am on weekdays. I dont even have to be to work at any specific time. theres just other things id rather do in the afternoon then be at work. Whereas in the morning there is nothing else to do except go to work. I go to sleep usually by 10, give or take 30 minutes.

you do get used to it. takes 2-3 weeks.

Force yourself out of bed. Then go directly to the shower and then insert coffee into the mouth hole when you get out of the shower.

You should be wide awake at this point.

I go to bed between 9:30 - 10pm and wake up at 5am. I could probably sleep a little later, but I like to walk the dog that early when the neighborhood is still and quiet. It's a nice way to wake up and start the day.

I have to get up at 5 for work everyday, and I even though I started 9 months ago, I still almost go late everyday because I hit snooze too much.

Soon I'm going to have to get up at 4, so I don't know how I'll survive that.

I worked night shifts for years, then switched to a 7-3 shift which I'm up at 5am for. Compared to being nocturnal for about 6 years, being up early is a walk in the park. Took very little time to adjust.

Have been getting up at 4:30 am for over ten years with work. The hardest part I find is getting the two feet on the floor.

Just set multiple alarms at fifteen minute intervals.

I have a temp job that starts tomorrow I need to wake up at 5AM for, so I started yesterday and this morning: shit sucks. It will take time to adjust, but it's been over a decade I bet since I woke up that early.

Odd timing as I had to get up at 5am myself today. I generally get up between 8-9, but had to be up extra early today for one of my research projects at work.

I went to bed at 10ish, probably asleep around 11 as I read a bit and took a while to fall asleep. I got up easier than I expected, but I wouldn't want to do it regularly.

I've just never been a morning person and even getting up at 8-9 regularly took a while as I was more of a 10-noonish person from college through grad school. But I need a tad less sleep as I've gotten older/just can't sleep as long. So I usually go to sleep sometime between 11:30-1 and get up 8ish and feel fine. As long as I get 6.5-7 hours I'm pretty good to go, though I'm better with 8-9. Five or less and I feel shitty all day.

I go to bed around 9:30-10:30 and get up at 4:05.

It takes time to get used to adjustments in your schedule, but now it's fairly easy for me to wake up so early.

I wake up at 4:30am usually or earlier, sucks. Aways sucks aways will. Just gotta suck it up.

Try not to take sleeping pills to knock out on time, I use to but I'm just more groggy in the morning when I did that.

For me personally to work a full day 7 hours of sleep is amazing, 6 hours is fine, 5/4 hours suck and less then 4 is a kick in the dick.

As a lecturer I was thinking about getting up at 3:30am, walk to the local gym down the road, do my thing, get back, and prepare material for the upcoming day. Go to work, finish at 5:00pm, go to bed about 8:30pm-9:00pm(?) and rinse and repeat. I tend to stay up late every evening which is not good. I also don't particularly feel energised to plan the next day's activities when I get home every evening after a long day of teaching.

I think it could work...worth a try at least. It will also make me more inclined to go to the gym, and it will be very empty.

Pro-tip. Get another device such as an iPad and set up a second alarm. Hopefully you will last long enough for your body to adapt to the new wake up time to turn it into a habit. Also, you need to be sleeping by 10.30pm the very latest. Not in bed by 10.30pm, SLEEPING by 10.30pm so it won't affect your health in the long-run.

I wake up at 5am most days with no issues... It hits me at like 9-10am when I generally doze off and become a zombie for 1 or 2 hours.

My issue is going to bed early :| There's just so much to do. Work + School at nights + a kid lol. It's simply impossible to get all my sleep hours.

I feel you OP. I've been waking up at 6am since the beginning of the year and I still hate it and just want to sleep more. Its better in the summer when the sun comes in and wakes me up. Maybe a timed radio or gradually undimming lights could help or something.

I should say I never actually don't get up like you do. My suggestion for your particular problem is to set up multiple alarms, starting from like 4am, every 10 minutes.

I go to bed at 23hrs, then wake up between 4:40-4:50. It's a matter of slowly training yourself.

I do spend a lot of time sleeping during weekends though.
