Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

I wasn't terribly hyped for this game. It was going to be a rent regardless of quality.

But now I'm not even sure if it's worth a rent as graphics were like 70% of the appeal. We'll see how gameplay looks.

Have to admit, this is looking like a non-purchase for me, reviews/further details dependent.

Hopefully this is another mix-up, last time there was a trailer that was "mistakenly" put out, I believe they said it was last-Gen.

Thankfully I just seen the new Dragonage trailer today, with that and new Infamous footage, the potential loss of watchdogs is offset.

I don't even know what I'm looking at. The gif being featured prominently in the OP and throughout this thread is too small to indicate anything. Random people are posting other gifs and there are no indicators which versions those are representing. There may very well be reason for disappointment, its just unclear what versions of what games are being displayed and these gifs aren't a very good way to determine anything about how the game is looking these days.

Supposedly everything is from the PS4 version.

The screenshot I posted is from the same video as the GIFs. There are actually a few parts of the video that look decent, and other parts that look terrrrible.

I think this actually looks better than that picture.

Let's hope they don't release the wrong version then
Ubisoft accidentally shipped an uncensored version of the new South Park game in Germany. Now they have to get all their copies back from the retailers.

So yeah, let's really hope they don't ship the wrong version, lol

even with horrible gif quality, it's painfully obvious that the visuals are trash. Just because it's a gif doesn't mean you can't see the enormous lighting downgrade. And the lack of reflections.

There is NOTHING obvious about it. it is a compressed shitty .gif.

In fact one of the other .gifs with the police car shown looks pretty damned good despite it being a compressed shitty .gif.

Wait, considering that this footage is from a trailer that released on the Xbox360, why are people so quick to assume that this is an indication of what the next gen version of the game is going to look like?

Unless, you all thought that the last-gen versions of the game were going to look like what we saw in the initial trailers?

I'm not understanding the problem here. That is clearly 360 footage, right?

Funny that, GIFs often make a lot of games actually look better because of downsampling.

Can't be said for Watch Dogs though. Bad lighting is bad lighting.

I assume for many it went from instant buy to gamefly rental, upon seeing this thread.

I am sure that there are games this happens for every time a thread pops up displaying some nasty screenshot that isn't indicative of the average gameplay. The game will sell, it's not going to be avoided because someone captured a particularly ugly moment of the game. We have power (and I can't believe I'm the one cautioning against overreaction), but this is clearly an overreaction.

After watching the part in motion, I have to recant my previous statement deriding the next gen consoles and berate the hyperbole that has now come to pass. The game looks nowhere near as bad as that single frame. Aside from the incredibly bright pavement the game looks really good (barring what we saw in the initial reveal which accounts for nothing in the end).

For an open world game this looks great, esp the character models. Given what has been achieved on last gen consoles with GTA V, things will get better.

The one humorous fact I've noticed going on in this thread is how many people have stated it's not just about the graphics being downgraded, but that everything got downgraded, and that in itself is making them cancel their pre-orders or deflating their hype.

Funny, if it wasn't about the graphics, then nothing should matter right now, since no one here actually got to play the game, and thus, we can't know whether the game itself got downgraded. If anything, I'd bet with the rumored reasons for the delay, the gameplay should be much better than it originally was going to be.

Thank you. I was afraid to post something similar. People are overreacting. If you want to cherry pick bad looking stills you can find them in every game.

We know why it got delayed. It was too repetitive.

Too repetitive for a Ubisoft game.

I don't have high hopes after all the things we have seen and heard about this game.

I'd actually prefer it if a game that looked that bad didn't come to PS4, it's going to ruin my sexy image of it. I'm not going to say this is the worst thing in the world, but it's easily top 10.
fine I'm exaggerating. It's top 20

"Not just about" = "wasn't about" in your mind?

Why afraid? GAFers can't hurt you. :P

The game has been downgraded from its reveal. I mean, we've seen other full gameplay trailers where people actually played through moments of the game and it looked infinitely better than the gif we have here, but it still was clearly not as good as the reveal.

Problem is people are projecting this really bad captured part and the fact that the downgraded lighting engine makes some areas look particularly garish to suggest it looks like this on average and therefore needs to be avoided like the plague. It does not look like this on average, demonstrably so. If it'll be any good is still anyone's guess, but the overreaction element is clear.

It really makes you wonder what happened during the development of this game. If this is our end result on the best console hardware, what shape was the game in before they shipped it? How many times does this have to happen at Ubisoft before changes are made?

Patriots downgrade gonna be out of this world

Didn't Future Soldier look real sharp at first then came out looking like a launch game?

I do see your point. I won't speak for everyone else since I do not know what everyone else is thinking. But for me, seeing what was promised in 2012 to what is finally coming in May is a huge disappointment to me. There is another thread that mentioned that there are problems with the AI. AI affects gameplay. So, the graphics have been downgraded and the gameplay might not be as interesting as promised in 2012. Not to mention that the game might have been delayed because GTA 5 being so well received. Ubisoft should have at least outputted the games resolution to 720p to retain the graphical effects shown in 2012. But even then that might not help if the gameplay is not as interesting as promised.

We will have to wait and see if Ubisoft ends up fulfilling their 2012 promise, or if we are going to have to wait for Watch Dogs 2 to get the 2012 game originally promised.

These are just the impressions that have been given based off what Ubisoft has revealed today. It is their fault for the reactions in this thread, and what is probably going to come when reviews hit.

If it looked the same as ACBF I would still buy it. Yes, it's disappointing to see such a downgrade but come on, this is Ubisoft we're talking about here. Kings of bullshots.

GTA didn't look that good when you actually played it though.. it was pretty in places, don't get me wrong (I dislike the game strongly, visuals are probably one of the best things IMO) but it also has some pretty dodgy looking stuff too... and it never looked that good.. or at least I didn't find a place where it did.

It isn't just the looks of GTA V ( which I liked a lot personally, especially the lighting/ day-night cycle was spectacular and I think it's amazing what R* achieved on current gen machines ), but the gameplay itself, made Watch_Dogs look dull. But...then again, that's my opinion.

graphics dont make a game but what we saw in the reveal was amazing. Going from e3 2012 to today is a real disappointment. Even though it still looks good it is disappointing everyone because of the massive downgrade in visual's. ubisoft messed this one up.
