Pretty much. Why people get hyped from reveal trailers at all is beyond me. Nowadays it seems we can only get honest opinions about a game after it releases.
That image looks bad, but I want your N64 right now because it might be a one-of-its-kind N64 that makes games look magically better than every other N64 in existence.

even with horrible gif quality, it's painfully obvious that the visuals are trash. Just because it's a gif doesn't mean you can't see the enormous lighting downgrade. And the lack of reflections.

Okay, heres a still from it to look at.
Mmm background objects don't cast dynamic shadows. The lighting in the final product is a big downgrade, there is no avoiding that.

Whatever, the real disappointment will be that the fancy melee move done in the club from the reveal that people cheered was some automatic/QTE like thing. This is why games should not get "Game of the Show" unless they are playable by someone who won't pretend it just looks playable.

Damn, they need to blow up the engine and start all over until they get one that has decent lighting. The game itself doesn't look terrible but the N64 level lighting pretty much makes it impossible to call it anything outside of ugly for most media shown..

Here is what some of the anti-graphics hype people need to understand. Part of the reason we get hyped for a game when it has extremely good graphics is because it is a signal that you're dealing with a very talented developer.
Creating amazing visuals is not easy, it requires an investment in good artistic talent and more on the back end to create the engine or modify it to run the game and its graphical systems.
This is a show that the publisher is dedicated to giving you a great looking product and is putting the talent and money behind it. When a big name publish releases a game that looks terrible, its a sign that they DID NOT invest in the games visuals, which in turn, makes me NOT want to invest in them or their game.
If they cut corners on the visuals, where else did they cut corners.

I don't think downgraded is the word you want to use when describing what's going on here. Did anyone ever really play or see anyone play a version of the game that reflected the 2012 e3 trailer? I don't believe we have. And that's because that version of the game likely never existed in the first place.
We're going to be revisiting this thread when the game releases. The game is not going to look like the gif during the average play. It's clear there's been a downgrade from its reveal (cross gen yay!), but the gif is mostly just an unfortunate example of the bad aspects of the engine converging. You can find glitched out areas or bad areas even in games that on average are not particularly buggy for most people and gorgeous for most people.
This is from my own Uncharted 2 playthrough, for example. Was stuck and had to reload game, losing progress:

^^^ Agreed about that one bridge jumping section in the original gif, however a lot of the on-foot stuff and gunplay sections looked consistently mediocre or even really bad if they're actually from the next-gen version. Flat lighting and incredibly simple indoor geometry being the most noticeable to me.
So it's either the developers being incompetent for making a very inconsistent looking game (OK looking nighttime vehicles, but terrible outdoor/indoor daytime graphics), or it's the marketing department being incompetent for mixing in extra-shitty current gen graphics with the passable next gen graphics.
Without seeing more than this trailer and that Italian footage, I can't say which I believe yet. The people who make the trailer are part of Marketing (I assume) and their only job is to make the game LOOK as good as it possibly can. Unless they were given a mixture of Current/Next-gen footage to use and couldn't tell the difference, it's not in their best interests to show uglier parts of the game directly next to the OK looking stuff.

Rather baseless insight. This is hardly the metric of PS4 visuals. This one must have hit you hard, so you have my condolences.
To me, on the other hand, this looks like one of the least impressive games I have seen on next gen.

I'm speaking subjectively because it's all I can do, but the lighting in GTAV on last gen is better than the lighting shown in that video (to me) and lends itself to a more believable, engaging atmosphere. Lighting is one of those amazing tools that can do more for appearances than increased fidelity in objects, and can cover shortcomings in said fidelity. And that's where the "downgrade" is apparent. I can't tell you if the cars or environments have any fewer polygons or if the textures have been downscaled, but I can say without hesitation that the atmosphere (the most compelling thing about this game in its early stages) has suffered notably.

I don't even know what I'm looking at. The gif being featured prominently in the OP and throughout this thread is too small to indicate anything. Random people are posting other gifs and there are no indicators which versions those are representing. There may very well be reason for disappointment, its just unclear what versions of what games are being displayed and these gifs aren't a very good way to determine anything about how the game is looking these days.

Sure I was looking forward to this game but watching that trailer for the first time this afternoon was deflating seeing the downgrade.
And if it isn't PS4 footage, why wasn't it used, or even PC footage?

GTA didn't look that good when you actually played it though.. it was pretty in places, don't get me wrong (I dislike the game strongly, visuals are probably one of the best things IMO) but it also has some pretty dodgy looking stuff too... and it never looked that good.. or at least I didn't find a place where it did.
