I liked his reveal design better.

Reasonable and legitimate? Please. There are people saying this looks horrible and worse than most Ps3 games after just looking at the gif and then overreacting in the comments.

The game still looks fine. Significant downgrade? Sure. Apocalyptic? No.

This gif would be more convincing if 2/3s of the footage it represents wasn't blurry.

Character models are definitely impressive, i would say they are the only thing that haven't gotten downgraded. Do they use the same model/fidelity during gameplay as they do in cutscenes?

I was expecting to hear DMX right here. Looks almost JUST like him.

Also, did anyone catch them mention the graphics [between new/old consoles - thanks for the correction] in a separate Polygon article: Watch Dogs hits May 27, here's how the versions will compare

"Obviously what's different, is that we're scaling the dynamism and the detail of the city and the gameplay. So it's stuff like the amount of civilians in the street, the amount of cars in the street, the detail in the animation, or how sophisticated some reactions are to some of your actions. So some of those things are scaled down. Obviously the graphics, but that one's obvious."

Yea, buddy. It's very obvious.

They said that the game was held back so they could do more work on it & tweak it, what did it look like before then ?

Maybe it would've been better to have canned the PS3/X360 versions, surely the game is scalable like it would be for the PC market & hardware-wise the X1/PS4 are much more powerful than the PS3/X360.

Stuff most gamers still need to learn:
- Graphics alone are not enough to justify getting hyped for a game
- Whether a game looks good or not is mainly the developer's responsibility
- Certain publishers are trying to cheat you (because you let them get away with it)

Never in my life has my hype died a little each time a game is shown.

Officially not getting this. I don't even care what the reviews say at this point. I refuse to support a game and company that shows something purely to get hype, then later reveals that it was all smoke and mirrors (a lie and deception).

Goodbye WatchDogs, we hardly knew thee.

Same video. Looks totally fine to me. All dynamic shadows from those streetlamps.

Boop:

Edit: I ain't the best at capturing gifs, but it'll do.

Eh, the gif section of that video looks OK, but most of the other footage (especially the on foot stuff) looks really mediocre.

Some of the car reflections and particle effects are nice, but I'd only be impressed if they were 360/PS3. If that german/italian video is from the PS4 version... meh. It's like the whole atmosphere of the city got neutered from the original videos.

The delay actually excited me, unlike most people. I thought it would ensure the finished Watch_Dogs (at least on ps4) to be far closer to the reveal than it had strayed in subsequent showings, so I wanted to believe people were just being hyperbolic as well. Those hopes were quickly and assuredly dashed.

Edit:

I didn't judge it until I watched the whole video. I thought the gif was showing improvements. I think the whole thing looks worse than GTAV on PS3, albeit with improved QQ and density.

GTAV on PS3 is a beautiful game in my opinion, this looks better, not saying it's a great looking game because it's not, but that gif makes it look horrible.

so much hyperbole

game looks good enough, but yeah there was a significant downgrade. Nothing unexpected too.

Also I am glad this happened to Watch Dogs, because we won't have the same thread with The Division when it launches too.

questioning my veracity won't get you very far, it's my subjective opinion that the game looks extremely good even through Youtube and its awful bitrate. If it's recroded off somewhere I'd be happy to post some grabs.

Again, your subjective opinion is objectively wrong.

As good or better than a +4K screenshot...

Damn guys, could we maybe--just maybe-- wait until we've played the game before judging?

Y'all look like YouTubers flocking around the latest Miley video.

From the (shitty quality) video:

JbAusIP.jpg

Seriously getting an N64 game vibe.

Yeah that's horrendous.

I can quite easily skip that and be quite happy.

PS why don't pubs learn - if this is NOT representative of the Ps4 game then release a proper high bit rate video to the community. Sometimes pubs are there own worst enemy.

If this pic is representative, no one can help them

The lighting engine is completely borked.

I mentioned this before:

I'm pretty sure there is current gen footage mixed in there, Look at 2.28 in the video. It looks considerably worse than everything else. That is very likely the PS360 footage, and probably so is the section where the gif is from, because the rest of the car footage looked totally fine. I have no idea why this guy has a mix of videos, but it's unmistakable

Because the gif I posted and a lot of the other footage in that very same video look fine. It's this bit, a part in a lobby and the car jump bit that look like some current gen footage spliced in randomly.

It's the lighting more than anything else.

I don't expect amazing textures or intricate geometric details on every object in an open world game, but at least have decent lighting.

I feel like some Wii games have better lighting than what I'm seeing in those screenshots. I mean I'm sure it's not but it reminds me of PS2-era gouraud shading. The complete lack of cast shadows make it look really out-of-date.

no it's not apoclalyptic but when you add up the reveal the huge amount of protracted preview coverage and the visual downgrade...it becomes a what-not-to-do seminar

Well, now I guess we know why they delayed it. This game is evidently a hot mess.

This is so fucking obvious I can't believe it needs to be said...

Nobody is judging "the game" per se. We haven't played it.

The only thing we're judging here right now is the footage Ubisoft has seen fit to show us today. And there is nothing wrong with us doing that.
