I was playing a little JDoom earlier when it occurred to me how godawful the music sounded on my current on-board sound setup. If I get a decent Soundblaster or Turtle Beach card will it sound any better? Also will I be able to load different patches into the card? I've used softsynths such as Yamaha XG and WinGroove, but I think I'd rather have a hardware solution.

yah you can use sb awe 32 even and it should work just fine with new patches/sound fonts. I can't see why it shouldn't work with turtle beach sound cards.

Cool. Do you know how many megs a card should have set aside for patches?
