We asked our local grocery store to make a Mario Kart birthday cake...

I was hope people would realize that's out of character for me. :<

'Course it's a joke (but I bet someone has really done that though), the cake's from gogle. I just cut off the "Julia" name.

Damn I was just going to post this. I felt all slick and stuff.. Did a google search for rosalina cake I saw that pic was from a place called cakemediacentral or something and noticed how Julia was edited out

That's not really a masterpiece but not a bad attempt as well. I always have respect for customized, handicrafted good. Hope you enjoy it OP.

I don't see the problem with the cake. Looks absolutely great for it being frosting. I hope you tipped because they seem to have put a nice amount of attention and effort into it.

And no I am not joking. I've baked and tried to decorate enough cakes myself, and something along the lines of this is no easy task.

OP is weird - esp after that Walgreens post.

What's wrong with this cake? I actually would be pretty happy for going to a grocery store and receiving that - that's REALLY cool to be honest.

...but again for my 30th :\

Hahaha. That's amazing!

It reminds me of this:

Not bad tbh , I've seen worse with just names and numbers but funny story

My friend works at a supermarket bakery and he says the bakery manager doesn't even know how to bake x do stuff like that, made me go 0_o

An adult can't enjoy a video game cake? Sounds like some of you miss out on life with these kind of thoughts.

Its not about not enjoying video game cake, but getting video game related cake on 30th birthday. Its not some random time in life, its one of the most essential birthdays in Your life actually.

That's perfectly acceptable for a grocery store cake and better than most people would get.

Also a thirty year old with a Mario Kart cake... Out of context this would be a truly pathetic picture. Maybe it still is? There is just something so sad about the picture itself.
The only sad thing in this thread is this post.

if it's one of the most essential birthdays of your life, then you should be able to celebrate this essential birthday however you feel like it

OP have you ever tried to decorate a cake? It's hard as fuck. That said, there's nothing wrong with that cake.
I'm just not sure what you were expecting from your local grocery store. They seem to have went above and beyond since most grocery store cake decorators are told to only do what's in the book and don't do any copyrighted images/characters that aren't in said book.
Be grateful you got such a great effort from someone who probably had a shitload of other orders that had to be done as well.

i think its pretty good, i would definately apreciate it. its no cheap sticker. the person actualy sat there and drew mario (probably from a picture) with frostingfilled plasticbags.

if it tastes great it would be even better.

and at all the partypoopers. whats so wrong about gettin a cake like that?
its a character op shares a history with. (probably from his childhood)
its HIS 30. birthday, not yours.

and at the guy who ownes a new tag. i loled.

mods are sadists.

What makes your 30th birthday more essential than your 29th or 31st? Because we've added value to an arbitrary number? And why is what cake you get important? It's a cake.

Reminds me of that C.S. Lewis quote: "When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

You seriously think some podunk local grocery store would make something like that?

The upper one with no figurines would be better than that in op. They could draw a street with finish line and it would be better. The only thing that screams mario kart from OP cake is mario painting. Whole cake should be themed no just part of it. It's lazy job.

So that's a no, then?

i am 42 and I would get a mario cake like the op has. I challenge anybody to come up with a convincing argument that there is anything psychologically unhealthy about getting a cake like that

Are you one of those people who also think game development is just a few easy button presses?

Because you seem to have no idea how much effort it takes to get a result half as good as the cake in the OP.

You gonna judge what kind of person i am just because i dont like cake in the OP ? OK.
It's my opinion deal with it.

There's nothing wrong with a 30 year old getting a MK cake. I think it's cool.

Well... It would've been had Mario not looked so drab.

Was expecting some awesome cake and ... its lazy job tbh considering.

You're right, he should have decorated it with highly detailed miniature figures of mario kart characters. Ones that he would have had to bought online out of his own pocket. Since it's pretty unlikely he would have them readily available upon the slight possibility of a mario themed custom birthday cake. Then proceeded to create intricate candy props suggesting an incredible familiarity with the intellectual property.

Using that knowledge; him, together with his amazing skills at molding, shaping, and coloring candy clay figurines suggesting a wealth of experience in the art of clay modeling, possibly animation, and also along with his obvious mastery of baking begins, bakes, and gives you the final product...You wonder to yourself looking into Mario's oddly tasty vacant expression,...what could he possibly have messed up so badly to end up making cakes in a backroom corner of the local grocer's?....but quickly feel like he was most likely just lazy; since he couldn't even set the cake on top of a painted mario themed edible candy stage. Accompanied by a completely fully modeled track that has an intricate candy road. That he could've drawn out in the back of the grocery store using his old sketchbook from culinary school. It's where he keeps all the handmade cake props he custom makes for every cake he get's the pleasure of making.

Because every cake, is like making pleasure...to yourself.

Edit: Man, I'm bad at grammar today. Fixed some dumb punctuation. And added a few words...

Lazy? What they did took more work than piping some grass and sticking toy cars on top. It may not look as nice but it certainly wasn't easier to make I bet.

Both of those have a few specialty tips for the icing, a fuckton of fondant for all of the flat and smooth parts which is expensive and hard to use and not something a grocery store carries, and Mario figurines to boot which definitely would not be in store. Top one probably took five manhours to create and the bottom one ten. "Lazy" my ass.

The main difference between the cake in the OP and most of the other cakes people are posting is that you can actually eat the OP cake.

The others? Well..good luck

Also, C.S. Lewis got a three bears cake made for his 40th birthday
