Haven't seen any pop up lately, so i took the initiative!

The Wrens
Saw them this past weekend, and yes, they rocked as much if not more than last time I saw them in March. I've decided to self-prescribe myself an ounce of live Wrens goodness 2x a year from now 'til the end of my life (or theirs unfortunately). Doctors orders.

All was not perfect with the show I must say though. Sound problems did lessen the impact on some of their rawkin stuff (Per Second, Faster Gun), and the lack of any new songs was an equal disappointment. Go out and see them indie folks.

The Faint - Wet From Birth
Still not feeling it. I've practically written it off. Absolutely nothing memorable or grabbing. Sounds more and more like a tribute band than it does the Faint. Faint fans shoot me now!

*prepares to roll defensive die*

Elliot Smith - "Twilight"
Love it. I'm really looking forward to the full-length. Any of you leaksters happen upon this quite-possibly fantastic album yet?

Lambtron
Ordered that Paper Chase album. I always loved your posting of that great album cover whenever music threads popped up. You providing a link for my lazy arse to check out one of their songs ("Said the Spider to the Fly"), finally convinced me this is probably a band that i'm going to love.

I must say, i was disappointed to find out those hot indie-chixxorz that are on the cover are not part of the band in any capacity. I hope Jason (=P) will join me in that disappointment.

Got that and the Arcade Fire (yay internet) on the way.

Oh, and please people don't just post a list of albums your listening to. LET'S TALK ABOUT the MUSIC! Jesus i hate caps, but boy does it bring home the point once in awhile. =P

Metric:
Awesome. Just cant get tired of em. Im gravitating towards the slower songs these days cause her voice is hypnotic. (ie. Parkdale, Down, On the Sly)

Muse:
Want to see live, heart it rul3z. Good loud music thats rocky without cocky. Impressions anyone?

Vanessa Carlton:
Not TOO keen on her cover of streets have no name, but her new cd seems pretty different from her debut.

The Killers:
Still my CD of the year.

Dead

Mansun!

Finally got my 3 Disc Kleptomania Set <3 Even for an unfinished album, the first Disc is fantastic, easily better than little kix. CD2 showcases some awesome B-Sides. Average Mansun B-side >>>> Regular song from most bands. CD3 has some pretty nice unreleased songs, including an awesome cover of "Shot by both sides" Listening to this cements hoe underappreciated these guys are/were, and saddens me so much considering they are no more but im anxiously awaiting Paul Drapers solo album...hopefully featuring Chad

Picked up a few used CDs over the weekend, curve, sunny day real estate and the verve among others..

Um, this is all kind of White Man's fault, but I've been listening to an unhealthy amount of Merzbow recently. I'm completely in love with it. Him. Whatever. It's some great stuff, if you're into noise. Now I have to see him live... and find a bunch of money to order a grip of his records (I've got like 7 or 8 individual albums I want to order in the now... not to mention Merzbox... yikes).

Music has been weird for me lately, nothing has really grabbed me or made me pay attention. The new Hot Snakes album (Audit in Progress) is really really fucking good, but I just haven't been in the mood for it enough lately. The first 4 songs on that album just kill. Other than that and Merzbow, I haven't listened to anything with any semblance of regularity at all lately.

Lots of shows coming up. Shearwater and Captured! By Robots this month, next month is Pixies plus Marilyn Manson and/or Ministry/My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. That should be fun, though I really just want to see Ween again...

I guess the next album I'm really looking forward to is the new Stars disc. That's next week, I think. Hooray!

I hope that you enjoy the pAper chAse, SPJ. It's some hot hot stuff. I was listening to it again today and was once again blown away. And the cover art does rule.

I got that Arcade Fire album and don't see what's so great about it.

I really like The Decemberists.

I still listen to Super Furry Animals a lot, like I have been for a few years. The new Super Furry Animals album will be the greatest thing in the world, and no one on GA will be able to deny its greatness. By that time, I will be hailed as the poster with the best taste in music.

I like Supergrass and Blur as of late.

Muwahaha.

Over the next couple weeks, I've got Ween, Bright Eyes, Afrika Bambaataa, and at least one other interesting show that I can't recall at the moment. I thought this month would be dead for shows, but it's turning out alright.

Music discussion. . .let's see, Brian Wilson's SMiLE is pretty damned good. The only thing wrong with the record are the vocals. Brian's upper register is surprisingly still intact, but his normal singing voice would turn a lot of people off this amazing record. Geez, from Merzbow to the Beach Boys.

That's right, you get to see Ween, in a fucking tiny venue, on Monday. That's so not fair. AND THAT'S ALL MY FAULT!

I'm jealous! So jealous, so jealous.

Next summer, I'm hitting every show in Minneapolis, and maybe every show in Chicago... depends on the money situation.

Belle and Sebastian has a newish B-Side called "Your Cover's Blown" and it's really fucking funky.
saw Franz Ferdinand (INSTEAD OF THE ARCADE FIRE because I live too far away from the hipster ticket outlets where the tix were sold [out]) live the other night. tight and sexy shit. though i guess they're sorta mainstream now? it was packed.
listening to older metric stuff. Of Montreal. You are the Quarry. but not really interested in anything. i'm kind of bored.

Pain of Salvation's new album "BE" comes out October 12. It'll be fucking awesome. It'll be hard to top Mastodon's "Leviathan" as Album of the Year.

I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing, but Sonic Youth has basically owned me this year. :-( They've replaced Radiohead as my favorite (active) band making music. I WILL see them live.

I blame YOU PEOPLE!

Just picked up Snow Patrol - Final Straw the other day, and have been enjoying it. I especially love "Chocolate." Also been listening to Duran Duran - Rio.

Hell yes! Let's talk Boingo.

I say, my favorite album is Dark At The End Of The Tunnel, followed by Dead Man's Party. My favorite song is "Heard Somebody Cry." "Skin" is also equally bad ass to the nth degree.

I really like Only a Lad and the first disc of Anthology, but then again, that's all I have. With this job situation looking positive, I may have actual spending cash here in a bit. Dark At The End Of The Tunnel you say?

Meanwhile, my roommates are throwing an 80's party this weekend. I wasn't really excited about it, but I just realized it's a wonderful excuse to blare Oingo Boingo. I am now happy.

And you will be purchasing Merzbird this week, correct?
Money's tight, so probably not. I'm going to order Tamago and Last of Analogue Sessions first-- they're limited. Plus the Springharp disc of LoAS has the beat driven Merz I crave. So I'll pick up Merzbird & Merzbeat later.

Or more likely at the same time as LoAS because I love spending money like that.

So I've been listenting to Metric and its defintely something new but I just can't get into. Like I think they were a good buy if they came on a soundtrack but I'm not going to buy an album.

And I saw a Pixies concert right after I attended the Great American Beer Festival. I was 15 from Kim Deal and me and crowd were shouting "We love you Kim." Best part was the final song, Gigantic.

Also, I like all the names in bold.

Awesome. You crank that shit, loud n' proud. Everybody should be exposed to the Boingo.

Putting band names in bold rocks. I'm thinking that Belle and Sebastian's Your Cover's Blown will go on the 80's party mix I'm plotting deep inside my skull.

Electronic:
I've been listening to a lot of downtempo stuff, specifically many of the "Back to Mine" compilations. The idea of these compilations is to bring over an artist and make them mix a downtempo album of the material that influenced their own music. Initially i had the Talvin Singh and Groove Armada albums, recently i got Everything but the Girl, The Orb and MJ Cole's mixes. Just letting them sink in basically.
After liking "faking the books" by Lali Puna a lot, i got "tricoder" recently, and it's fantastic as well. I personally found "faking the books" a lot more enjoyable/accessible though, but apprently it's the experimental one :/

Metal:
Listening to Holy Diver and Dream Evil albums by Ronnie James Dio. Just fantastic retro metal, when metal was good.

Indy:
Going to see The Organ and Controller.Controller on the 16th (thanx jason). Also might catch Magneta Lane on the 8th (again thanx jason for the link to the band website, the chics are hot and the song is hot).
My album of the year is definitely The Organ's S/T, i know nohing else will top it for me this year...bar a Doors remix by Thievery Corporation or New Order, none of which is likely to happen anytime soon.
Also listening to "you forgot it in people" by Broken Social Scene, and liking it a lot. This is my type of post rock. Gave Tortoise a try before but i dont have the patience for all instrumental mood pieces anymore, unless it's upbeat.
I think the The Faint album is fine, just nothing memorable, same goes for The Arcade Fire album. I think Action Action's album is a good one comparatively because its a bit cleverer and the arrangements are diverse.
Also listening to the last two Flaming Lips albums a lot, both quite fantastic.

Yes yes yes. The Flaming Lips rock, the new single is due out soon.

I'm gonna back up everyone's talk about Metric. Grow Up and Blow Away and Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, among others, are getting rather constant play.

Also, my guilty pleasure is Jem.

Their shows are worth every penny. You will sweat until you die. You'll likely get your ass kicked by their crazy fans. You'll likely lose your breath. And you'll likely have the time of your life. Muse is flawless.

SY live may have been my favorite live show ever. I've seen Radiohead twice, btw. . .SY is better.

Rain on Tin live > anything that could possibly ever exist.
omgomgomg.

No. I want to see The Diamond Sea live. Holy shit my jaw would hit the floor.

I also want to see Muse live.

The Arcade Fire album is in my hands! I was definetly surprised to see it shipped to my door today after only having ordered this past Saturday.

Almost done with my first listen. Don't know what you guys are smoking, but this is an awesome record so far. Way up there for top albums of the year.

Well, I went to the Black Heart Procession last night with openers Scout Niblett and Enon. What variety i'd say! Great show, BHP are absolutely mesmerizing live.

I was surprised at how few songs they played from Amore Del Tropico. Really like 3 songs from that album and that was it. Their set consisted of songs mostly from their 2 first albums.

It's so sad that most of the asses were only there for Enon. A good half of them filed out midway thru BHP's set. Their loss. I think BHP's is one of the most underrated bands in the indie-world.

Unbelievable versions of "Blue Water-Blackheart", "The Old Kind of Summer", "Your Church Is Red", and "We Always Know". Such miserable music, and fitting for the occasion (I was laid off an hour prior to the show).

Oh and it was cool seeing TV on the Radio at the show (kinda hard to miss their presence :p). Touch and Go REPRESENT SENT.

Today is my all-Mogwai day. So I've been gorging myself on the following albums by them:

Ten Rapid
Young Team
Come On, Die Young
Rock Action
My Father My King
Happy Songs for Happy People
EP +2

Mogwai is fucking amazing.

I'm seeing Morrissey on the 19th, so I've pretty much just been hitting his discography the last few days. Been on a bit of a Pearl Jam kick and most recently I picked up the latest Badly Drawn Boy.

I love Black Heart Procession, but I also really like Enon. I would've enjoyed that show.

I guess Hocus Pocus isn't as good as High Society or Believo, but still!

"Your Church is Red" is wonderful. I'd love to see how that's performed.

smirksrevenge hooked me up with the new Stars album (thx dude). Amy Millan's voice = heaven. Definitely gonna pick this up on tuesday. Arcade Fire's latest is also kicking my ass. Montreal's on a roll. :)

So I just got back from the mail box, and guess what I found? Stars' new album, Set Yourself on Fire. CDPlus rocks, took two days from Ontario to Seattle.

I heard a few of these tracks back when I saw them in March (The Big Fight and One More Night), they still sound fantastic. Arcade Fire's Funeral now has some competition for my coveted album of the year title.

It's pretty even between Amy and Torq on vocals.

You'll want Merzzow, too.

And Rectal Anarchy, at some stage.
