I joined the group, although I'm not even really sure how Facebook works, to be honest. I've only got an account for those occasional times when someone sends me a link that can only be viewed by members. I'm just paranoid about my friends/family finding me on there... :\

[edit] Hmm, don't really like how practically anything I do on there gets "announced" to everyone.

What do you mean 'announced'? You can choose to not have things published on your News Feed through security and privacy options as well as choosing not to publish something on your Wall.

Okay, yeah, I'm looking through all the privacy options now, trying to limit as much access/notification as I possibly can. :)

I was wondering myself about the differences between the two. Half an hr. conversation before getting in the sack ain't that big a difference from "nice to meet you, wanna screw?".

Wouldn't go that far. Hooking up with random guys or girls isn't for me, too risky... but it's their body, and lord knows I get up to shit a lot of people would find disgusting :lol :lol

I was referring more to bathhouses and such, where unsafe sex is more likely to be rampant.

But overall, my rules are that sex should be safe, honest, and consensual. I'm not a big fan of people who moralistically criticize hookups because they don't fit their romanticized notions of when and how sex should happen.

It's entirely reasonable to avoid hookups out of personal preference; I often feel that way myself. I just dislike rhetoric that, in my view, furthers the idea that your moral worth is inversely proportionate to the number of people you sleep with.

I wan't trying give a moral association to either instance. It's just a personal preference and I can appreciate that people have a free will to engage in relationships anyway they see fit and that's perfectly fine with me. Hey, given the right circumstances I might hookup with the right dude.

It is frustrating to me however, that what seems to be the majority of gay men don't place the same value as I do in picking a sexual partner. That's all. It's not a matter of moral superiority to me, it's a matter of personal affinity with other gay men.

i agree with what you're saying... i refuse to hook up with random guys... mostly because i'm worried about who else they've been with... and i'd rather have a more intimate time with someone and a quick bang

since i live in a smaller city, all the gay men know eachother and they're always hooking up with eachother and whatnot... i've been offered sex and bareback sex many times... which is disturbing and very disheartening to me... i find it disgusting that people are willing to risk themselves and the people they're having sex with...

but at the same time... it's hard to find guys who are mostly clean and not into hooking up as much, just because these types of people tend to be someone more reserved, so i never know if they're gay or not... or they're in the closet...

Dude, there's gotta be a lot of us out there - I mean there's already 3-4 of us in this thread alone?

I don't even know what I'd do if someone offered me bareback - I'd feel like I should call the cops or something. Might as well just inject me with Aids.
 
I also find that I'm not as sore afterwards when I use the rubber even if I'm committed to someone already.

If I go bare, it takes me two days at least to recover. With rubber, I can take two to three times a day! :lol

Something else I forgot: The group is open to more than just gay men. Straight allies, bisexuals, transgenders, transsexuals, and lesbians are also welcome. Even if the vocal gay community here are mostly gay men. :P
