What are you expectations for Persona 5 (still not announced)

I know I'm not all that familiar with the Persona games (only played a bit of the PSP Persona 1 remake and currently working through P3P), but I definitely agree with the college or university setting.

Also, though I know this will never happen, gay MC choices please :-)

Catherine is built on Gamebryo, the same engine that powers Oblivion and Fallout 3/New Vegas, so I can't imagine why it couldn't handle Persona 5.
Oh I'm not worried if the engine can handle the game or not, I just think that it could be a little too time/resource consuming for the Persona team. I mean, Persona games never had high production values.

Not impossible, the series definitely doesn't have a problem with gay characters. If Social Links are in the sequel I'd like to see it happening too (as in being able to actually date a character of the same gender).

-A different setting would be fine, but I think the characters should be still be young. The naivety and idealism of the characters is pretty vital to the series...it's one of the only places where that anime-style romanticized characterization works for me.

-More great art, more Jpop, more colorful shit. I prefer the P4 tone.

-I wish it would just move faster in general. Less loading times, quicker menu transitions and battles. Less redundant or just smaller dungeons. I'm not looking for a move away from turn-based battles, to be clear.

-On a related note, I think it's time to move away from JRPG style 'box' dialogue to something more natural and open. It adds unnatural pauses in the dialogue as it is. Just real-time, natural conversations is what I'm looking for. They really went above the call of duty with the voice acting in P4, at least compared to other JRPGs, and I hope they maintain that or even improve upon it.

Yes, and Atlus is not a very big company, I hope the developers can do a deccent job without recycling stuff from previous games.

I dunno about that.
Kanji's story was a total cop-out. He ended up being straight, just liking more boyish women. It's dumb that they couldn't just let him actually be gay.

hopes:
a series of mysteries to be resolved yourself that you can potentially get wrong like the murderer in P4
a range of interesting dungeon ideas like P4
likeable characters and a good script
you can use your persona in battle like the mechs in Xenosaga or the knights in WKC
lots of bonus outfits so you arent stuck in a school uniform all the time

expectations:
there's a dungeon thing, lets explore it and see what happens.
there's only one dungeon
Joonpei-kun you kisama your waifu is owari.
$5 DLC outfits

Really it does though, it's afraid to commit to having gay characters and relationships. It's not afraid to hint at gay characters, but it doesn't have the balls to embrace it, as it stands. I don't think that will change in P5, unfortunately.

To be fair I've never played the first two, so there could be characterization there that deserves more credit than I'm giving the series.

Basically just copy Persona 4, throw it into the Catherine engine with full voice acting for every scene and add more of the beautiful cutscenes. Keep the upbeat vibe, high school setting, social links, crazy events, honorifics and humour laid out in P4. Oh, and bring back alternate outfits from P3.

Agreed but yeah, I was thinking more about Jun (granted, I haven't properly played Innocent Sin yet).

I'm not holding my breath but I still think they might consider giving it a try. You have a point that it probably wouldn't be in P5 as it stands but maybe somewhere down the line.

Well, there is something a bit more forward in Innocent Sin, but I still don't think it's a very good try.

Agreed. Not sure why everyone thinks there needs to be massive sweeping changes to the series. I HATE demon negotiations. I love the fact that they're not in P3/4. I basically just want an upgraded engine, new characters and a new storyline but keep the basics mostly the same.

You didn't see women wanting to play as a woman in a game so focused on personal relationships, including dating, coming?

i don't see women playing an obscure japanese role playing game, regardless of it's focus on relationships & dating... but if they were gonna make 2 main characters (male & female) they should add social links for same sex, too.

and bring back chie.

This is exactly why I'm thinking they wouldn't fully committ to something like that. Who knows though, maybe they'll take the plunge. Fingers crossed at least.

I wanted to list a bunch of improvements, but I noticed that the result would end up being a mainline SMT game instead of a Persona game.

I'd much prefer an SMT IV (or V if SJ counts as a mainline entry), but since ATLUS already stated that they are working on Persona 5 I guess we'll have to wait a little longer for that.

Hi, I'm a woman.

OT forum has Vox-Pop and he's basically a real life Kanji

Just give me a refresh button (for fusions), full voice acting and make Social Links matter in the main story.
All I need.

I'm expecting graphics quality of Catherine/Katherine, and other than that I'm not sure.

I really hope they're working on it!

How exactly do you want the social links to matter in the main story?

I'd like to see at least the main characters react in different ways because of something happening during a social link.
For example I've always found weird how no one talked about my romance escapades with the entire party, or that characters that changed in some way during Social Links stayed the same during the main story's cutscenes.

Pretty much Persona 3 and 4 in HD.

I have no demands.

i would be all over a HD rerelease :o

Persona 4 was the perfect game for me. Don't know what I would change. I guess nothing... Loved absolutely everything about it.

That Shin Megami Tensei 4 will be developed before it (PLEASE)

Other than that, i'd be fine with just about anything, wouldn't complain if they reused the same formula from 3 and 4. Full control over party and battle system similar to Nocturne or Persona 4.

Agreed.
My biggest problem/disappointment with the game.

I would like to see a better flow between dungeons and normal life. In P4, you'd spend as little time as possible in a dungeon so you could attempt to max out all social links. I didn't like trying to burn a dungeon in one sitting and then having a large portion of social linking. At least in P3 you got tired if you stayed too long in a dungeon which makes you take a break.

Other then that, the formula is fine. If they wanted to try something a bit different, I would be on board as well.

The fact that P5 hasn't been announced yet has me both worried that we'll never get it, and also optimistic that if they are making it, it's being given its sweet time.

Things I want that will never happen :

-Adult cast
-No Social Links
-No calendar
-Actual demons, not shadows
-Demon talk

Have you played P2 EP?

I would love for them to take this route too with the next Persona game but I suspect it will be more secondary school setting/social link stuff AGAIN.

The over all color scheme of the game better be green though to keep with the pattern.

*looks at Atlus*

After the PS4 drops, you'll get your PS3 Persona 5.

An idea about a college/uni setting:
Make the characters be juniors so that they can drink and if you drink and then proceed to go the Tartarus/TV of the game, the drinking could impare the MC's hit/miss ration as a way to make it more challenging.

Do people really think a college setting will be more "mature/dark"? Based on my experience, most college students don't act that much differently than juniors and seniors in high school. Only major difference I can think of between a College and HS setting is that school will take up less of your day.

Basically want this, and non-randomized dungeons.

Buying P2 day 1 digitally even though I don't own a PSP to help get Atlus get in gear.
(Will be playing on Vita)

While I wouldn't mind another high school adventure I would like to see some progression into the college years but still keep some of the quirkiness that comes natural w/ the high school setting.

In Atlus I trust, just make the game!

Pretty much. But also...

Can we get a skip cutscene option? Or at least a fast text scroll option. Especially necessary for when I lose a boss battle...

Also eliminate the way skills are transferred in the Persona games and make it more like Devil Survivor where you can put any skill you want (excluding the Passive skills of course unless they decide to add those in P5).

My hope:

- Use the same team they've had for P3 and P4

- Focus on one system to maximize effectiveness (PS3 if that's easier for them)

- Use the same setup of dungeons and social links - but apply it to an adult cast of characters. Police officers / business men and women / Private Investigators and any wacky characters you can come up with

- Spend time ironing out the battle system, make it deeper and give us options during battles.

- Make the social link events more involved

Social Links need to affect the main story.

It is really off-putting when stuff happens where, for example, in P4 you might have bonded a shit ton with Dojima but when you interact in main story cutscenes he doesn't trust you at all.

New character needs to make terrible puns.

Class trip to Inaba.

I want to be able to play as a girl, if they're going to continue to insist upon social links.
This.

Playing as a girl was tons of fun in P3P--finally, I can play a game in my own shoes. It's focused on personal relationships and dating, so why not make it so that I can play it from my gender's perspective again?

Other than that, I'm not asking for much, because I've enjoyed most of the Persona games I've played. Make it harder, I guess? Outstanding Meguro soundtrack? I'd love for a university setting, personally. Make it so that you can woo members of any gender.

I'm completely fine with this, but I just want a new Persona now.

Having social link decisions figure into the main quest script is something I wanna see too. I want to see the MC being called out for his secret harem of ladies

Add more persona from various mythos and religions.
Shoji Meguro doing the music and a song as catchy as "Reach Out To The Truth" for the standard battle music.
Have a college setting : no more compulsory classes !
Have a lot of trivia.
To keep the press system in battle.
To have a good ending (I mean good, ala Persona 4, not bittersweet).
To have returning characters from the previous Persona.
To have a segment about (Persona 3 spoilers)
how Elizabeth saves Persona 3's MC
To be able to choose the sex of the MC with significant differences in their social links.
