Back then, having a cartridge slot didn't mean it was a console, bro. I owned a IBM PC jr that had a cartridge slot too.
Commodore 64 was one of several options for a home PC. They were competing with Apple, NEC, Texas Instruments, IBM and Tandy/Radio Shack (among others). They were not competing in the home console space.

Someone thought the original design lacked in the radical department, so they made a more EXTREME version for the 'MERICA market. One of the ugly sins of the 90's along with renaming Megadrive to Genesis.

I'm with you there. Thankfully the early flirtation with cartridge slots in PCs didn't last long. When IBM eventually won out and became the standard, cartridges went bye bye.

So weird that the average $79 DVD player made by any electronics maker looks sleeker and better than console makers.
Here's one that costs $55 CDN on Amazon from a weird brand called Megtek. It looks better than probably 90% of all consoles ever made. Just a tried and true black design.

I was shocked when I learned that the US version of the SNES looks like that and how hideous it was. Everything about it looks worse. The system looks worse, the controller looks worse, even the cartridges looks worse. What a mess.

This, and it's not even close. The other console designs featured in this thread may look a bit outdated at worse, or maybe even a bit bland, but they don't hold a candle to the Jaguar's putrid design. Especially when you include that garbage controller.Jaguar is my vote also:
