What should come in a PS2 box?

OK, my PS2 which I bought off ebay finally arrived today, but it wasn't in quite the way I expected. It arrived in the "inner" brown box without the outer box, and with no manuals or demo disc or anything. However what was in there does look to be brand new, as advertised. Everything's sealed in plastic coverings with yellow sellotape, and with cable ties as they should be (i.e. it doesn't look like someone took the cable ties and put them back on again - it's all quite neat and "new" looking). But I'm wondering now if everything hardware wise is there? It came with the console itself, one controller, a composite cable and a scart adaptor (it's a PAL PS2), and a plug. The plug is the only thing which kind of looks questionable - there's a tiny scuff on it which is suspicious, but everything else looks fine (at least through the plastic).

So it's not quite what I expected, especially after paying €50 more than what they were selling for in the shops (I got the older "fat" model so I can use the linux dev kit with it - I couldn't get them anywhere locally anymore)...but I don't want the hassle of returning it especially if it is all there, for all intents and purposes, since these are so hard to find now brand new.

I don't know what comes in recent PS2/Two boxes, but I got a controller, instructions, AV cord, and power plug in mine, with everything bagged

Same for me here for my brand new PStwo.

Questionable plug sounds like one which was bought elsewhere in Europe and refitted with the appropriate plug type - most common in the UK, I believe.

Hmm - is there any way to check if it's a UK PS2 just by looking at it? The back of it is in english, but it just says that it's "PAL", which probably could be almost anywhere in Europe.

Would this affect me in any way in terms of games I could play or whatnot?

edit: here was the description of the ebay sale:

"BRAND NEW AND SEALED PS2 CONSOLE (not slimline)

VERY LITTLE STOCK AVAILABLE SO GET ONE WHILE YOU CAN IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS

PAYPAL ONLY TO ENSURE QUICK DELIVERY

COMES COMPLETE WITH THE FOLLOWING

ANALOGUE CONTROLLER

EURO-AV CONNECTER PLUG

AV CABLE

AC POWER CORD

DEMO DISC

FULL INSTRUCTIONS

YOU WANT IT U BID FOR IT !"

A number of things turned out wrong about this - no demo disc or instructions, i don't think it could be classed as "sealed" and it certainly didn't come in time for christmas :P He doesn't explicitly say in his own written description that it's a UK PS2, but he had categorised it as "PAL (UK Standard)". He also had a pic accompanying it, showing a PS2 box which mine didn't come in (just the brown cardboard inset).

I guess my only lingering worry is its origin. The lack of instructions or outer box tallies nicely with iapetus' suggestion that it may not be from the UK. Is there any way to check where your PS2 came from? I have its serial number from the brown box it came in.

Mines cam with every thing the topic creator listed except it also had ATV offroad fury 2 and a network adapter disc which had 2 demos on it (I got the Network bundle).

i have the box for my pal gt3 pack here and i think you got everything but the manual and demo as you already knew.

the list on the box is as follows:

1 Console
2 Analog Controller

7 Demo disc

Cheers - Are you in the UK/Ireland? Can I ask what the first letter of the serial number on the pack of your PS2 is? This isn't the model number (SCPH-xxx) - it's just under the voltage information on the back. I think that first letter corresponds to the country it's from, though i'm not sure - mine is a C.

Interesting..I wonder if that's the German code then...

Are you in Germany? Do you play only german games on it? I have no games to try on mine, and would prefer not to take it out of its plastic until I know I can use it OK, so thanks for any help..

I've one that has a sticker on it with Benelux/Switzerland and i have two serials under the voltage one starting with a P (pal?) and the other with S. not really helpful i think.

good luck with finding out where yours is from.

Cheers anyway, at least I know it's not a swiss or benelux ps2 :lol Thanks :)

Yes, I'm in Germany. I play mainly german games on it, but I also have UK PAL games like Sega Superstars and San Andreas, which run without any problem. My PS2 is registered, so I don't have to make my code secret: C4484788 and it's a SCPH-30004R (V5).

A PAL PS2 wil play PAL games, end of story. Whether it is from Germany, UK or Australia won't matter as to which games it will play as long as they are PAL.

Cheers, thank you very much. No one knows of any other potential side effects? I guess if it plays all PAL games that about covers most things..

I think I will buy a new power lead though..I don't trust this guy's one. Maybe the fuse won't work in it or something ;)

Also, if there is anyone out there in the UK or Ireland, I'd still love to hear what your serial numbers start with. Many thanks!
