Rza, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Ghostface Killah,

I had this neighbor who always named his dog "Prince".

He must have had at least 5 Princes that I know about.

When I ask him about it he said that it was the only dog name he knew.
To be clear, this was in the early 70s and is not related to any singers or members of a royal family.

I think dogs like names that are monosyllabic. Something you can bark at them.

I've had dogs named, Max, Rex, Ben-J, Mickey, Nikky... can't even remember the rest.

Gaf would make a good dog name.

Looking this up everything seems to say 2 syllable names with a hard or sibilant consonant in the middle is best as that is very identifiable for dogs because of their hearing and makes them harder to mistake for other words. Keep it short and choppy. So like Mickey and Nikky are great because of the prominent K sound and apparently the long "ee" sound at the end is good too. That or a rising "a" at the like Bella or Greta are supposed to be good.

Then all the other stuff like don't give it a human name or common dog name or a name that is similar to any command word you might use to cut back on any confusion that might arise when in public around lots of people or other dogs.

So now for me it comes down to Hanzee or Torin.
