What we know about Legend of Zelda Wii prior to E3 2010

Very disappointing for me personally if true. But there are plenty of other things this E3 that losing out on Zelda won't be that big a lose.

1. Cel shaded can mean a wide variety of things. It can end up looking like Wind Waker or, who knows, maybe it'll have an art style similar to retro-LoZ artwork.
2. Wind Waker was the most artistic Zelda game ever released, so it wouldn't be a big deal if true.
3. The rumor is BS. Every year before E3 the countless Zelda sites have to act like fools and post as many rumors as possible. I find enjoyment out of the whole ordeal and like to share them with people.

Cel-shading does not automatically equal this dreadful artstyle

I'm still expecting TP plus, but deep down I'd love me some cel-shaded graphics, or at the very least Okami/Prince of Persia (2008) cartoony graphics.

Haha. One reason to be slightly more optimistic!

+1 optimism

Another +1 for optimism!

I mentioned previously, I want Zelda to take Mario Galaxy's color palate.
Add some earth tones in there when appropriate. :D

Guys, the cel-shaded rumor has to be BS. The original source is from Hyrule.net and says...

In the middle of E3 2010, mysterious footage of Zelda Wii's trailer was shown momentarily to get hyped for tomorrow's Nintendo conference.
They showed a couple seconds of gameplay with Miyamoto holding a Wiimote with a Wii Motion Plus, with what appeared to be an adult version of Wind Waker Link brandishing an unfamiliar sword on the screen, the graphics seemingly much more sharp and masterfully rendered for the Wii version, but nonetheless, cel shaded. This style was extremely similar Wind Waker, one of the more recent home console installments of the Zelda franchise.
Hopefully this will unfold spectacularly at tomorrow's Nintendo E3 conference.

So where is this "middle of E3 2010" where they showed the trailer? The show floor isn't even open yet, so why would they show a trailer in some place that isn't open yet "momentarily to get hyped"? It's BS.

Here's a new batch of Zelda rumors for the mill (old?) :D

• Zelda Wii's official title is "The Legend of Zelda". There will be no subtitle.
• The game tells a story several hundred years before Ocarina of Time. It answers the question of how the Mastersword came into being.
• The fairy-like girl plays is a very important character in the game - her Name is Zordiana.
• The Hookshot is also in the game and it has new abilities. It will not pull you immediately to the target you aimed. It also doubles as a swing, like with the Grappling Hook from WW. The Hookshot makes no use of Wii Motion Plus.
• Sometimes you have to "draw" a specific symbol on a door with your sword, to open it.
• The Bow-Control is very similar to the Bow-Control in Wii Sports Resort
• There are two levels of difficulty. Aonuma put it through, though Miyamoto didn't want to include it. The Normal mode is for amateurs. The Hero mode has no "Super Guide" included and the enemies are marginally tougher.
• The On-Stage dungeon, which is also playable at E3, isn't a regular dungeon as we know it from the Zelda series. When entering a dungeon, you will not notice you are in one; it will be a smooth transition. There will be dungeons with no bosses and, alternatively, bosses with no dungeon. The "dungeon" you are able to play at E3 is an Ice-Level. It will be the first "dungeon" in the game.

being wrong feels so right

besides, I still think Wind Waker looks absolutely drop dead fucking gorgeous. It's just that the character designs were terrible, absolutely awful.

Rehearsals, testing the screens out on the showfloor, etc. There's lots of opportunities, and there is some sort of precedent for videos to be shown before the show starts. Not saying its true, but just saying its definitely possible.

I don't care how it looks, I just want me some Zelda! :D

Actually, my favorite part in Wind Waker was the walk to Ganon's Castle, because it made me think about what Wind Waker would be like with land instead of sea.

...Actually, thinking about it, I would love a cel-shaded Zelda if it didn't include sailing! I would even go as far to say it has more potential for looking good, because instead of water everywhere, there'd be landscape everywhere.

However, the Monster Hunter quote (where they say the Zelda team was quaking in their tube socks looking at Capcom) makes me think it won't be cel-shaded.

Well the way they seemed to push Wind Waker in that particular article made it seem like not only cel shading but also in the style of it.

And I disagreee about it being the most artisic Zelda.

Simply if it is heavily cel shaded or looks like Wind Waker style wise I won't buy it. I hate that style and to much Cel Shading. Not that I mind though people have been saying for years they want another Cel Zelda, well if they get it tomarrow grats on them, hope they will enjoy it.

I will just wait until another Zelda that doesn't use it and if one never comes, well there are plenty of games to keep me happy, no need to shit on others enjoyment because it didn't cater to my wants.

Hm. Not sure if want.

God I hate rumours. I'm already all anxious that motion plus is going to ruin everything I love about Zelda and all these rumours are fucking with my HEAD

*waits for tomorrow*

Enduin

No bald cap? Lies!
If they can have Link and everything looking as good as he did in SSBB I doubt anyone would complain, but at the same time if they could combine the celshading of WW with an artstyle like TPs or OoT/MM I doubt anyone would complain either, both look fantastic. It all depends on which one fits the story and adventure they want to tell.

Well it is the greatest Zelda artwork ever and would be truly amazing if pulled off ingame.

That was excellent. When I stopped and looked over the bridge, I so desperately wanted to be able to just go explore.

Great job at choosing a badly made picture.

Wind Waker is a beautiful game. It's just unfortunate that this rumor isn't true because of the artwork Nintendo released :( Then again, maybe they found that swinging the remote using Motion Plus worked, or at least felt more fluid, with a different art style.

Anyhow, it'll be very interesting tomorrow. Slightly hoping for a Wind Waker-style game (remember: Wind Waker art good, Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass art bad), slightly hoping for a cell-shading game but with a different style, and yet at the same time slightly hoping for another "realistic" Zelda. MAYBE WE'LL GET THREE GAMES.

Just for you Zelda Informer: BREAKING: THREE ZELDA GAMES TO BE ANNOUNCED AT E3 CONFIRMED.

Let me in

Most visually inspired, at least. They really had a vision and went for it, everything fit.

And what's the difference if it's cel shaded or not? I don't know why anyone would refuse to play a game on that basis alone.

I... grrr, I just want it to be tomorrow.

Back when it was released I admit I was totally against Wind Waker and its art style, but seeing it played again a few months back after taking a few years out of really being a Zelda fan I really found myself liking it.

Don't believe the rumour for a minute, but if it does turn out to be celshaded I won't be complaining. Especially after seeing how well the artstyle has aged in Dolphin and the like.

Personally speaking I had so much fun playing Twilight Princess with the Wii setup. Everything worked perfectly for me. When I eventually played the Gamecube version, I felt incredibly... impaired. :lol

the part where games weren't married to gimmickry, where controls were based on efficiency and accuracy rather than some false play to immersion, where life was simple but game design was king, where I never have to recalibrate because a controller goes out of sync, where I never have to flail and worry that it's not going to register or that some gesture is going to be misinterpreted

*sniff*

The good days. When novelty wasn't king.

This. Though, with the exception of the sword attacks, I loved everything about TP's controls.
