What's your "price ceiling" for the next-gen systems?

Well, let me look at the Video Card I want to put in my PC...ok it's $469. So my cut off is $400 because a console has less utility to me than my PC.

i just thought about how much i spent on the wii u at launch

$299.99 basic system
$49.99 pro controller
$59.99 NSMBU
$29.99 Black ops 2 (buy one get one half off @ TRU)
$439.96
$478.46 after taxes...

yup.. $500-550 is the limit for sure for the PS4 this fall.

Hoping for $400 or below is a way of expecting not to be a day-one owner. For the Orbis I'd pay $600, but think it is a terrible launch price for the public in general. $500 is the likely price, but maybe $450 could be reached if they are willing to accept a greater loss than at $500.

I can see a $300 Orbis coupled with some subscription fee charge as well, but that takes the total price to be higher than $500 over time.

If i can determine that the "leap" is substantial enough, spending $500 for the systems seems like a no brainer for me. However, in the case that i do not see this perceived "leap", max would be $350 for each, just like the Wii U. Also, i will most likely be staggering my purchases to maximize my satisfaction haha. Probably will buy a system(Xbox/PS) on launch day and the other 2-3 months down the line. I just really love playing and or tinkering with new systems that i don't mind paying a premium when compared to perceived value(i.e. the games available and what not). This is all under the assumption that both will have "guaranteed" exclusives of interest to me, be it on launch day and or TBD, given the history of releases for either console.

$400. Anything more, and they can go fuck themselves. And frankly, $400 is a pretty generous amount to be willing to shell out, considering that I'd basically be paying that for a couple years of tech demos anyway.

Given the reliability of current gen consoles, I have to factor in the cost of a extended warranty in my purchase. Therefore while my max budget should be £400, it actually is in effect £300.

If I actually decide to purchase a console day 1, I would be looking at no more than 299.99. But even at that price, it will take a decent launch window to sell me. Beyond that price, there would have to be at least 10 games within that launch window that I considered must have.

$500 for a top-end version SKU of either console. $600 tops, but they better be packing in some hardware inside and a AAA game right out of the gate.

For me it's not as much about the price as it is the selection of games [ironic since I have a Wii U, I know, but I know what's coming for that. Went PS3 over 360 last gen because I preferred their exclusives over what I perceived as rather one dimensional 360 offerings. It took me a long time though - I didn't hop in until just before the slim design came out, so it certainly took a long time to make that decision [I loved the fat look over the slim].

The cost doesn't matter too much for me if I know I'm going to get a fantastic $/hour out of it.

I'm far more sensitive to the price of the actual games. The raise to $60 over $50 and game length shortening/drawing out content across trilogies has completely changed how I purchase games.

PS4: £400
NextBox: £300

Considering the PS3 was released at £425 and 20gb 360 at I think £280 I think that's pretty fair.

Got £800 put aside just in case but in reality hoping that £800 can get me both consoles and a Sony Xperia Z.

I'm getting a PS4 whatever the price. I'll think about the Xbox when I see the price/launch titles/"must plays".

Anything over $AU600 and Sony can go fuck themsleves. The Aus dollar is over parity with the US and has been for a year now. If they still make it more expensive I will knock over some magazine racks.

$500 absolute max and it would have to blow me away. I plan on spending a good amount on my GPU upgrade within the next year so I'm not looking to spend a crazy amount just on gaming hardware within a year's period. $400 is a good price point that would ensure day 1 from me.

PS4: $400. I dunno if I'm getting at launch. To scared of big launch day problems like hard locks and system breaking completely like RRODs. But $400 is the most I would pay + game of course. Will get it at most a year after launch barring any huge RROD like issue.

720: $200. I only got the 360 at towards the end of this generation. There wasn't to many exclusives that I wanted worth buying until it was cheap enough. Will probably do the same with 720 and not get it until the end of the generation.

Edit: Both prices are for cheapest SKU.

I paid $500 for an Xbox 360 Pro back in 2006 because of the shitty Canadian dollar. That was kinda pushing my limit, to be honest.

Some of the prices being thrown around here are ridiculous and unreasonable. It's like people equate their own financial situation to how much a device is worth, rather than equating the price to the value of the product. I am fairly confident we are going to be looking at 450€ for PS4. At worst, 499€.

Premium model at $499 or less or I wait. Just like I did last time with PS3.

...Actually, after the RRoD and Wii U's freezing issues, I'm waiting at least a couple months anyway. Don't want to get a console that might destroy itself.

Any price. So in effect 600. No one would release a console for more than 600 hundred.

Agreed. I'm hoping for $400, but will spend up to $600. I'd probably spend more, but I can't possibly imagine a system costing more than that right now.

I'll mostly likely buy both consoles Day One.

I'm getting the PS4 for sure, but I might wait a while if it's higher than $450 or so.

399.99 for the basic SKU but 499.99 for the deluxe sku if it has good value. Like a pack in game PS+ for a year and much larger hard drive. I will most likely getting the deluxe SKU. Already got it approved by the wife since she gets the PS3 for the bedroom so she can watch prime videos the current bluray player in the bedroom does not have it.

Gotta say that I am willing to pay a lot depending on what the system has to offer. I really like the subsidizing idea.
Generally I find it interesting to see that people are not willing to pay so much for consoles which in the best case are a one time investment, but pay up to 800$ for a new smartphone or tablet every year.

for ps4/xbox:

$350. maybe $400.

...but it may take a few months to a year to legitimize those prices considering inevitable hardware complications and game release schedules.

£250, I'd hate to go above that but if it takes too long for the price to drop then I might cave in and buy it at £300.
