What's your "price ceiling" for the next-gen systems?

$300 for either. Unless either or both of them present some uber compelling functionality that addresses a need of mine. But I don't see that happening.

I don't anticipate buying either for 1-2 years, so hopefully they'll be within my budget by then.
 
Depending on the hardware, I can accept a price of up to $500 otherwise I feel they are encroaching on my PC upgrade money.
 
If I really want a console, I'll happily drop $500 to get it.


However, I think both companies are insane if they launch any higher than $400 in the U.S. The average consumer doesn't want to go higher than that. Hell, even $300 could be a barrier for many.

I might go higher if there is something I really cannot live without, like a favorite franchise.
 
It'd be nice if we could get some poll action in the op. That being said 399 is the highest I'm willing to go, but 350 is the sweet spot.

400 tops. Can't justify spending 500 on a console anymore (console plus game and some downloadable titles) For that money I get a grade A PC these days and consoles first years are mostly shit anyways. With the exception of Nintendo which basically has me by the balls I'm not going to buy first year anymore.
 
Around $400. Between $400-$500, it better be offering some nice features and value that make it stand out. Beyond $500, I'd have a hard time justifying it versus simply spending that towards upgrading or building a new PC.

And that's speaking nothing of necessary accessories or possibly having to pay for online services, which aren't exactly attractive propositions.
 
I'd say £350 tops. I can see them both being upwards of that here in the UK though. Which would be a shame.
 
Probably $300, though I wouldn't pay anywhere near that for the next Playstation or Xbox if they're just giving us a repackaged PS3/360 with better graphics. I may drop $300 for a Wii U once Nintendo shows more of their big guns (or hell, Wonderful 101 may get me to buy one all by itself).
 
As with wii u, I will wait for some worthy games. If I hear good things about the initial games, I guess I will buy the system in question. In that theoretical situation, the price has to be ridiculous to discourage me (we are talking literal ken kutaragi fine dining prices).
 
I won't pay more than $499 for a system at launch.

Not because of the fact that i think I'm being frugal or that I personally have a "price ceiling" (far from it -- hell i'd probably pay $699), but just because of the fact that I think any console hat launches above that price is DOA.

Now that price doesn't include tax (if nit from Amazon), games or any accessories (which people rarely think about any ways when talking console price)

$500. It would have to come with more than just the console and controller. For a bare bones package (console+controller) I would pay no more than $400.
 
£350 MAX for the highest tier model.

I think it will be £329.99 (Xbox 720/Durango) and £349.99 (PS4/Orbis).
 
For Ps4 I'm thinking something in the region of €$300 - €$350 with a game.

It all depends on launch lineup though, if Ps4 has Last Guardian or something like that available at launch I might spend a little more. (Even if I still believe it's a Ps3 title)
If there is a terrible drought like with the Ps3 I won't be buying it at launch at all.

Games are what make consoles, nothing else.

For that same reason I will buy the next Xbox only if it has full backwards compatibility with Lost Odyssey and a few other titles, I'm not really interested at the moment otherwise. Max price is €200, I think I'll wait for a long while for that, no rush.
 
I believe I paid $399 for a Kinect Bundle that came with games when I finally bought a 360, so I'd say that is my top price.

When I bought a $399 PS3, I only got it because it came with a $100 giftcard. $299 was the last gen target for me.
 
To be honest I'm beyond price ceilings. I now make enough that I could probably buy all of them at launch without destroying my fiances. What it comes down to though is whether or not I see worthwhile reasons to own them. I'm increasingly down on graphics so they'll have to hook me some other way and if graphics is what I pay premium for then I'll probably have to wait until it's worth the sum of it's other elements.
