I'm definitely not spending above 250 European funbuckaroos for the "full version" of whatever console plus one or more bundled games and controller(s). Will I easily double that due to games and additional hardware purchases in one go? You bet.
However, the "uncrippled" "untethered" console in a playable state will not exceed 250€. I will wait until it arrives at that level, come heaven or hell. I can wait. Did it this gen, and that was when I had a gaming resurgence thanks to Wii/DS.
It's a psychological thing. I can certainly afford more, but I have bought all my current-gen consoles (Wii/360/PS3) at or below that price. Any more is just wasteful.
I won't splurge and buy all three this time around, gaming just doesn't have the same importance in my life anymore - plus my videogame zeal has notably cooled off. The Wii giveths, the Wii takeths away.
Anyway, even ignoring that: my current-gen backlog is just plain ridiculous. DS, PSP, PC, 360, Wii, PS3, iPad, all with their own humongous backlog. I am doomed. I have no need for additional platforms...
However, for some inane reason I have an Ouya preorder.
Maybe 600 if there's a game I REALLY want to play, but otherwise probably in the 300s-400s range. It's very unlikely I'll get either on launch day anyway. Probably end up waiting a year or 2.
After having two failed consoles (one each from MS and Sony), I'm in no rush to dump a bunch of money again. I'll stick to what I've got currently and swoop in at the end of the generation, buying everything after it's already been vetted and reduced in price.
Based on a lot of the responses either there are going to be a lot of pissed off/angry people or I am going to be very pleasantly surprised. I'm expecting them to be priced $500+ so the lower it goes the happier I'll be.
Not buying any next gen consoles at launch. My backlog can easily get me through another year of current-gen gaming. Depending on price, I will probably get one of the new systems the following year during Black Friday sales.
400 is max. Will probably wait for 1 year though to get some games out I want. Now if they have that exclusive must play experience... still staying at 400. No higher!
$599, very possibly. I don't want to pay that, so if it is that much, I'll probably be waiting until Naughty Dog releases a game for the system (or at least announces one).
The price at which I'd rather pay for PC upgrades, which I guess will depend on the price of my desired PC components are when the next-gen consoles come out.
I would be extremely surprised if either console was under 400 bucks. All people talking numbers below that are saying that they don't want one for at least two years post launch, and that's okay.
I am of the option that the market might barely accept a $400+ price point.
For me personally, that is around $300+, but that is far from set in stone... that price point WILL trend to the low end should I get the chance.
And that is far from the only consideration. Their are quite a few caveats before I jump into next-gen.
I'm not sure there is a "max" price I'd pay if the content is there or believably going to be.
For example, $350 is $50 too high for a Wii U, but my home was burglarized and my TV stolen, so offscreen play is the only way I got to play some of last year's biggest games, so I was willing to pay extra. Also: Smash Bros.
With the next X-Box, if it's just merely an extension of the 360, the content would need to be amazingly compelling to get me to consider at any price. I've owned a 360 since launch and Microsoft has tried it's hardest over the years to make me feel like an idiot for buying their product, from three defective units, to the absurd charge for Gold (what is being provided, exactly?), to the shallowest pool of exclusives. I bought a 360 for Halo, and each Halo game I bought was increasingly worse than the one before it, culminating in me not bothering to pick up Halo 4 at all (not having a TV played into this as well).
Playstation 4 sounds like it's shaping up to be pretty sweet. If E3 shows that I can reasonably expect to be able to play 90+% of all games on the combination of Wii U + PS4, I'll probably do that. $400 is probably my absolute max here unless, again, the content is amazing (Beyond Good & Evil 2, please?).
Short Version:
Wii U: $350
X-Box 3: N/A
Playstation 4: $400
$400 for the next Xbox
$300 for PS4
$200 for Wii U
I'll probably wait 1yr to get the next Xbox, no rush at all. And I'm fairly certain I'll wait for the first hardware revision & price cut for the PS4. Unless there's some amazing Western exclusive game that I need to play, I have no problems waiting 2-3yrs to get the PS4.
Yep 349.99 is what I want, 499/599 max is what i expect. Perhaps more if they get into the "it's a new era in electronics with Ipads going for 699" mindset.
