which franchise will die in the gen ?

I hope Assassin's Creed finally falls on it's own sword, it's had more than it's fair share of time in the spotlight. Ubisoft really need to invest in more new IP's and a fresh approach to their homogenized open world level design. Would love to see what those guys in Montreal could come up with if they weren't forced to churn out an Assassin's Creed games every 12 months.

Also Call of Duty (as unlikely as it is). Activision has milked that franchise for far too long and will probably run it straight into the ground like all the rest of their IP's but not until they squeeze out a few more mediocre titles. From what I understand sales have actually been on the decline since BO2. Same situation as Ubisoft, I'd love to see what they would create if they weren't forced to shell out a new CoD every 12 months. Plus Ghosts was terrible and Infinity Ward are but a shadow of their former selves.

Lastly, Battlefield or more accurately DICE. I can't see them surviving if Battlefront suffers the same fate as BF4 did on launch. I hope they've learned from their failures but there's no sign of it yet.

Gears, Halo, Asscreed, CoD.

I personally feel these IP's have run their course. Asscreed has such so much fatigue at this point.

CoD will probably still be kicking out of all those, but it's on its way out. It's just gonna take a while on console.

Call of Duty.
(Someone had to say it. The generation may be long enough for a new leader.)

it will probably live on for another 2 generations after this one lol maybe not as fps leader but will still be around as long as they sell a minimum of 10 million copies.

Wouldn't mind tbh. The concept is great, but i think no one ever made a good game using the balance, right ? Maybe the Wii Fit/ Wii Fit U games, but it's pretty hard to call them "good games" properly.

Punchout is pretty great with it

I think it's time for halo to go. I don't care for what 343 is doing and at this point it just seems like Microsoft is milking it. But they do need at least one more halo wars.

Depending on how it performs, Guitar Hero Live may put Guitar Hero back into the grave before it even surfaces.

I'm hoping that's not the case.

Assassins Creed: Unless they make some BIG changes moving forward I don't see the franchise staying relevant for a whole new gen after this one

Also, I personally like most of these franchise but I think it could be the last gen for a lot of Sony Ip's

Uncharted: I like the franchise but I honestly hope UC4 is the last one and Naughty Dog moves on. New gen = New Ip is one of the reasons why I really like them

Killzone: Mabye. Sony tried really hard to turn it into their big online FPS and it just never happened. If the new Guerilla IP's does well I think we might see them focusing on that from now on

God of War: Again, mabye. Gow really isn't that super popular franchise it once was. If the new one manages to be good and get both good sales and reviews I could see a future, but if it's another Ascension (with nicer graphics) I don't know

Infamous: They had Sly on Ps2 and Infamous on Ps3, mabye they will move on to something new this gen specially after Second Son didn't become a hit.
Infamous or not, now that they have their next gen engine and that they have become familiar with the hardware one can only hope that making their next game look good will be easier and they can focus on making it fun

Fable
Gears of War
Killzone
Assassins Creed
Ninja Gaiden
FIFA - You never know
Far Cry

it will be very hard to revive most of those. Very tired IPs that a lick of paint won't solve. Gears of War feels so long in the tooth and they're releasing the original again before a new one, too much.

Halo has barely gone out it's comfort zone, they need to try new stuff and 343 do need to deliver but something amazing not just good. Something unique or near perfection. Halo feels a bit lifeless these days but with a big budget. Hunt the Truth is a bright spot but not a game.

Biggest games will be AssCreed and Call of Duty

I have a strong feeling that in 5 years we will not hear anything about these franchises again

AssCreed will be replaced by Watch_Dogs and CoD by Destiny.

You can bookmark this post. Thanks and have a nice day

Infamous
Sunset Overdrive
Bayonetta
Saints Row
Far Cry

Which is a shame, Sunset has potential, and as fun as it was I could feel the repetitiveness creep in towards the end of the game. And Saints Row kinda ended in a way where they either retcon the series, or just leave it period.

Halo.

Halo reminds me of when 989 studios was given Twisted Metal and no one gave a shit again until Black dropped.

343 is not terrible just like 989 was not terrible but why play their imitation when you can just play Rogue Trip?

Metal Gear Solid. It's simple and probably the one game that someone could mention in this thread without doubt.

Sad because MGS V will be the best game in the franchise and the best game of 2015. At least it won't die because as a result of the games being bad. MGS has only gotten better with every game and is an industry icon in terms of quality (in my opinion of course). In a way, MGS V is the perfect send off as it should bring the story right back to the beginning of the franchise. I can't actually say I'm disappointed that we might never have another MGS after V. Look at the situation from Kojima's experience developing the franchise. He's always said that he'd be done with Metal Gear after they'd release. He has been working on MGS for almost 20yrs, which is a lot of time in this short life we have. Yet he's always returned and added a fresh breath of air to the franchise with each game and system release. He seems really content with MGS V and happy to show it off as well. So I think we can all be proud of what Kojima, his staff and Metal Gear have offered us for these past 20yrs or so for the sake that he'll recognize that he has had such an impact on video games. Be proud for the changes in how games are made the franchise has had on the industry. No amount of awards can probably show love for something that you poured your life into other than the excitement a developer can get by just having people be excited for their game and wanting to know everything they can about it. Let's not have MGS be done with the negativity that Konami has brought along. If you're a big fan of MGS, are interested in MGS V or appreciate developers who truly pour themselves into their creations, let Kojima know by getting MGS V when it releases or by even tweeting to him if you don't care for the game. Time taken by someone to tell you thank you is 100% more personal and emotionally effective than being handed an award on stage in professional/business setting. To end, I will say that I will knowingly hand Konami money despite how they might have been treating Kojima just so I play and experience what he has made for his fans. Like it always should be.

Killzone shouldn't die, because the potential based upon the lore is enormous & I'm someone who actually even liked Shadow Fall.

The artwork/design was fantastic, likewise I love how the shooting feels, so I'd honestly be really depressed if the Killzone franchise dies.
Damn you Guerrilla, it's long overdue you make a Killzone game which allows us to play as the Helghast 'good guys'.

FIFA is a funny suggestion, because based upon latest news, what 'if' the federation goes kaput & is brought down...? EA would need to change the name of their football game, lol.

Capcom, Konami and Rare will be replaced with Kickstarter spiritual sequels, one IP at a time.

Breath of Fire already died. 6 is basically its corpse being publicly mutilated.

SimCity is dead.

Rollercoaster Tycoon is going to be dead whenever World comes out (until OpenRCT2 gives the classic games eternal life).

Sonic the Hedgehog has been on life support for a while. Post-millennials have no idea who he is, and the DeviantArt crowd can't sustain an entire franchise.

I could see Sony retiring InFamous and Ratchet at some point during this gen. Idk they just don't seem like they really have staying power compared to Sony's other now dead IPs.

Ratchet's getting a movie though and the series is getting a "reimagining" (reboot) which they wouldn't consider unless there were sequels planned.

Uncharted. But on its own terms. I can see the franchise ending on a high note.

Halo. Halo 5 will no doubt sell like crazy, but if the game is shit people won't be as hyped for 6 and it'll slowly die. I hope I'm wrong and that Halo 5 is a return to form for the franchise.

Call of Duty. Like Medal of Honor before it people are growing tired of the franchise.

Tagging this so I can call everyone claiming Halo dies a moron when it doesn't. The Halo 5 beta was great and there is a huge fan base. Hyperbole to the n-th degree to say it dies. Good grief.

At this point, it's too hard for me to say what might die as we are so early into this gen. Assassins Creed comes to mind as Ubi is cranking out titles left and right. If sales stay solid though, it'll continue Metal Gear given recent developments is another solid possibility.
