"Popular franchises that I wish would go away" =/= franchises that will realistically die this generation

The fact that top selling game series have been mentioned in this thread far more than series along the lines of (say) Sonic The Hedgehog that has had terrible sales/reception recently is amazing to me.

Metroid - I dont think we will see a new great single player game anymore from this franchise, although Samus will still be popular in Smash Bros, her games wont be created anymore.

Final Fantasy single player: after XV, we wont see a new Final Fantasy anymore, unless its a remake/remaster/mmorpg.

Resident Evil - every new Resident Evil from now on will not made anymore with a high budget and will be released in episodes like Revelations 2.

This is a slightly contradictory post, because you can't claim Gran Turismo is immune whilst its sales factually plummet - yet claim MGS is possibly ripe for the graveyard of gaming franchises because "its best selling entry was in 2001". Guess what? Gran Turismo's best selling game was Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, itself back in 2001!

Racing car games aren't as popular as they once were.

I've actually never once claimed MGS is "ripe for the graveyard", as I don't believe it is. My initial response to you was explaining why others believe MGS may not exist for much longer. I personally do not think this is the case and have never said anything to the contrary.

Also, first party IP is kind of a different beast than third party franchises, as a series like Gran Turismo is important for moving PlayStation consoles, even if its sales aren't as high as they once were.

Killzone, Infamous and ratchet will die for sure, Halo and GOW have their last chance with 5/4 and probably Gran Turismo if the next one is bad.

A new game was released in 2013 and Miyazaki has expressed interest in directing a new installment.

Ya, I am looking forward to future Armored Core games. I hope the universe still ties in slightly and references previous series. It was nice of V to do that with 4.

Armored Core isn't dead?

I wouldn't say it's dead, but it is a series I treasure that I feel like it has a chance of being gone this generation.

If I had to say another game series I feel like is going to be dead...
Zone of Enders. Konami owns the IP right?

Uncharted
Fable
FFXI
TitanFall
Battlefield (replace with SW Battlefront)
Yakuza :(

Sonic sells much better than it should - Lost World and Boom managed respectable numbers for Nintendo exclusives.

Sonic's obituary has been prematurely written for years. If the first PS4/XBO entry turns out to be good then it could get a bit of a boost.

Also lol at people in here saying Splatoon. Try and keep up.

Guitar Hero Live will be the only GH this gen.

Halo should after 5 because there won't be enough left to play on and keep it as MC.
Call of Duty needs to after they give one last jab at competing against RS Siege.
Assassins Creed in a sense that they'll take the same mechanics and gameplay but in a different approach.

Assassins' Creed games are popular, but I fear that they might be getting over that point where people are all "You know what? I've had enough of this." Aren't they up to more than one game a year now?

Do these games even sell really well not including bundles (genuine question)?
I'm no Assassin's Creed fan but I know people who buy every AC game that hits the market and plays them to 100% completion.

well if people are buying them, i guess they're not going anywhere

This sooooo much, idk how some of these games got picked, I'm no Assassin's Creed fan but I know people who buy every AC game that hits the market and plays them to 100% completion.

I think Sonic is on his way out. The bad ones no longer sell, he no longer has good handheld games to fall back on and I just don't see him having much of an audience on PS4 and Xbone.

You can't kill Sonic. Sonic is eternal. I'm incredibly certain he'll outlive us all.

Deus Ex. Square Enix are going to have ridiculous expectations for it again and there's no way Mankind Divided is going to perform well enough to cover their money sink on other games.

Battlefield, AssCreed, and Call of Duty might go away for a while but there's no way the franchises are going to be dead until something eclipses them.

Halo probably won't die either, no matter how poorly 343 handles the series, just because Microsoft thinks it's a multi-media juggernaut. Also, a great source of program names.

Gears of War probably will die this gen, though. It doesn't have the entrenched fanbase that Halo has and sales/critical response to the series has took a massive downturn with Judgement.
