I have no idea who this is, OP.
I'm just seeing this thread and this post makes me VERY VERY VERY sad... you should feel bad for making me feel so sad!

This is exactly how I feel about the Chorus Kids -- almost eerily so, in fact. What's the matter with Chorus Kids as a Rhythm Heaven representative? No, they weren't the ones whose names were brought up when people were originally brainstorming Rhythm Heaven characters, but that doesn't mean they're not a good choice. For me, it was something like Wii Fit Trainer: a character I wouldn't have thought of independently, but they work well.
For one thing, they've been rather recurring icons of the series since their debut, appearing in the Munchy Monk Endless Game in Fever (arguably Marshall, Cam and Miss Ribbon are the same species but whatever who cares), cameoing in Game & Wario, appearing in the Rhythm Heaven 3DS Badge Center set, and being 1 of 4(?) Rhythm Heaven trophies in Smash 4. Not to mention the fact that they were rather prominent in advertisement for Rhythm Heaven DS (they're the only characters on the front cover of the game).
I also think that when it comes to "representing" the series, they're one of the best choices. I get that Karate Joe and the Ringside Wrestler are popular characters, but the Chorus Kids are inherently musical (being singers), and are therefore, imo, better suited to represent the series. Additionally, and this was something that hadn't occurred to me until the idea of the Chorus Kids was brought up in the Gematsu leak, but a trio character is pretty conducive to a good rhythm-based moveset, where attacks from the first two Chorus Kids would set the rhythm, and if the third does an attack on the rhythm (matching it like in Glee Club), that attack could receive a damage bonus... or something like that.
I don't really feel THAT strongly about which character it ends up being, it's just that the more I think about it, the more Chorus Kids seem to make sense (plus it's not like Gematsu was just any random "leak", lol). The series doesn't really have a face, so imo, Chorus Kids are more than popular enough to be the pick.

Also, everyone needs to realize that criticizing a character before seeing it in action is a fool's errand. I've certainly learned my lesson. Sakurai is better than any of us at designing Smash Bros. characters (Ganondorf/clones notwithstanding); Villager, Rosalina, Pac-Man, Bowser Jr., and Duck Hunt are all better realized than any of the fan movesets I've seen floating around on the forums. I'm sure Samurai had a good reason for wanting to include the Chorus Kids over another RH character, and if we're lucky enough to see them as DLC then I'm sure they'll be full of creativity and Rhythm Heaven-y goodness.
Don't forget Ken.Batman
Ryu
Rayman
Goku
The Rock

Me to a tee. I find Bowser Jr. annoying but working his moveset around the clown car and letting you play as the Koopalings instead was excellent. After Pac and Mega Man they're the newcomers I play as the most. You can say that again. For the longest time I thought Bowser Jr. was the dumbest character idea ever and he ended up being my second favorite newcomer in the new games.
...'course, they added the Koopaling alts, so I can just cheat and just say it's Iggy. <3 that crazy prankster!
Missed this earlier but:
The Avatar is already in Smash and he can airbend:
(Custom upB)
Dark Pit makes me throw up a little every time my cursor is forced to slide by his undeserving face.
Golden Sun Characters.
I still believe.
