Why do people get over protective for their favorite console?

Because they are idiots And I should know as I've been a first class idiot for over 30 years.

OP. For someone with a shiny new PC, you spend a lot of time in the thick of it yourself. Why?
Yeah talk about Pot Kettle Black
Usually to protect something they like, brand loyalty etc, people do the same with Phones, trainers, movies...everything
I say let you do you, and I'll do me.
Don't really care if someone is having it as good or not as I'm having it and I don't need to prove anything to justify it or convince them to join in my choice or opinions.
Because it only matters to me
When someone tells me they've played the best game or seen the best film, slept with the hottest girl, etc
I believe them, from their prospective
I do like winding them up though..

But this

this

Edit 😂 oh wow and this

Well There It Is Jurassic Park GIF
Lol some of them should read their cringe comments back to themselves

Nintendo gets a lot of shit slung at them for their business practices (not catering to the core) but I'll always disagree with anyone who disparages the quality of their games, which at their best are the best games in the industry, and for all people who complain, Nintendo do one thing better than anyone.... gameplay (developing games in general really).

Probably a joke post but nothing wrong with having a preference for PS or Xbox like these two have - the problem people are the ones who can't meme and to be honest, just sound little and nasty.
No the worst ones are the ones who pretend to be neutral but always defend a certain box. They know who they are......

subconsciously people treat their beliefs and tastes as part of their identity..so when someone doesn't believe or have the same tastes as them, they feel like their being is criticized..so this brings two thoughts

- Stop not liking what i like
- Stop liking what i don't like

tribalism, lack of critical thinking, allowing their identity to be attached to an electronic device.

Console wars in 2021 don't make any sense to me. I think the console wars ended once the PS4 released. The PS3/360/Wii gen was entertaining as hell cause so much was being shaken up. Sony was failing, the recession made the generation longer than usual, RROD, Wii dominating sales charts, etc. So much disruption. Nowadays 3rd party games are generally available between major platforms and exclusives are largely just 1st party studios. There isn't much to fight over anymore. Bethesda being bought is the biggest shake up of recent memory but even that just seems meh cause I don't really play Bethesda games. Sure it's a big deal but just save and get a PC or an XBOX if you want those games. Money hat timed exclusives were much more frustrating IMO cause you simply had to wait it out.

i have no clue why playstation fanboys, are the way they are. Brain damage is the only way i could understand why u look at any xbox related tweet and the replies are just crazy ppl posting "xbox sucks"..."playstation better" etc.

I luv luv luv PS2. Think its the best game console of all time. And that didn't cause me to slurp playstation and hate anything non playstation. I grew up on NES....and still like Nintendo but i play it the least. I have no nostalgia for Xbox. I nvr owned anything Xbox until i was in my 20's. I have never cared much about Xbox games. But its my most used current console and i think xbox has had the best console the last couple gens.

i would like to think that my line of thinking, is the norm. As far as liking everything. But idk. I do think online sentiment effects real world purchases. Because Xbox does have a slightly negative connotation. Maybe even Nintendo to some degree. U never see anyone in real life, saying playstation sucks or anything. or questioning why you would get a playstation. unless its a pc nerd ;)
Similar NES, SEGA, N64, PS2, xbox360

through the years but I gotta say xbots and Sony pony's are pretty equal. Maybe I don't go looking or counting, but my 2cents is they're equally as crazed about stuff.

I'm an incel, an atheist, and I don't like sports. Console warring is like the one thing that gives meaning and purpose to my life.
This post could easily be parody, but could also be keen introspection.

That one can't really tell the difference is a sad reflection of modern social life.

lol well maybe it's the truth, maybe not…

but my honest answer is I don't think it's really due to "console gaming is an investment" etc.

I think the truth is much simpler.

1. People love picking a team and cheering their team on and seeing the other teams lose. Anywhere and everywhere.

2. People on the internet fucking love arguing about anything and everything. And what they love most is finding when someone else is wrong and stuffing their face in it.

Religion used to save people from this sort of angst by building communities that could bring positivity to members.

Current religions are like a foul creature wearing a religious skin suit
