OK, here is why people don't just "get a PC"
1. They're considerably more expensive than most. As of today a competent PC costs around $1000 to build. That is considerably more expensive than a $500 console OR a $300 XSS.
2. They're intimidating. Its easy for PC jackasses who have years of experience to run games effectively who know what they're doing, but someone who is a novice its not so clear cut and dry
3. People don't want to deal with things like driver updates/maintenance.
4. You know that when you put in a disc and/or download a game it will work and be playable (Cyberpunk on last gen is a rare exception). That reason alone drives people to consoles.
5. Troubleshooting is a PAIN in the ass. A PC is Great when it runs and works, but the second you get crashes, blue screens it can become a nightmare real quick and most solutions require more than just googling.


Realize the world doesn't revolve around you. A PC isn't very difficult to use, but there is a learning curve.

This is an enthusiastic forum, when we talk about pc gaming we talk about high specs, not pc with a 1660...

If you hate 30 fps it is nonsense to buy a pc who can't maintain 60 fps at AT least 1440p in ANY game (so also heavy and broken ones), and a machine like that is already around 1000 dollars if you want to maintain high details.

I think Op was definitely talking about buying a capable pc, not something barely better than a console or what would be the point?

Thanks, i already did. After seeing how 30fps became the standard again with 7th gen, i promised myself i won't return to consoles ever again. So the 360 slim is officially the last console i ever bought.

No regrets though. Ever since then, i play every multiplatform at 60fps and better visuals than what console users get. I do miss some good exclusives like Bloodborne and Shadow of Colossus Remaster but otherwise i'm golden.

What does this mean exactly? It's intimidating to hit "download" and then "play"? Or do you mean graphical settings? Because most games will auto-detect settings and run fine on those settings; I've ignored graphics settings for years and it's fine.

Then don't, just automate it so the control panel informs you an update is ready and then hit "update", no different from windows/macos updates or updates on your phone; or even don't update...unless there's a game that specifically needs some kind of driver fix to even run (GTA5 was like this), you can keep going without an updating with every driver release.

Price: I got a Ps5 for what it would have cost me to just get a mid tier GPU, and that's before having to add a CPU, Mother Board, Ram, SSD, Power Supply, Case, etc.
I want to get a PC later on but for now spending $1500 on one isn't within my budget.

Also, while I agree that we'll be getting more 30fps games once we start moving past cross gen, I do think we'll still be getting more 60fps games on consoles than during the Ps3/Ps4 era due to diminishing returns and ever increasing development costs.

I keep seeing these threads about people saying how "30fps is awful and 60 is so much better" and I have to say... Why not get a PC?!?! What in the fuck's stopping you from getting a computer?? The true fact is that 60 will become less and less feasible as Cross gen dies off in 2023-2024. If you want the high framerates, you should never have bought a console. 60fps will only last for cross gen. I agree that 30 is unplayable but many people on this forum who only care about graphics don't give a shit.

If anything should be reduced, it's resolution. 4k is impractical and power hungry and brings back framerate/graphics too much for a resolution that most people can't even properly notice the difference of. 1080/1440p with reconstruction techniques like FSR and DLSS are the future- games would look EVEN BETTER in quality modes, performance will be better overall, and most people wouldn't even notice the difference thanks to how good FSR and DLSS have gotten. Native 4k can work in really old 1990s/early 2000s games, but with how games look these days it's too much of a hinderance towards performance and visuals. A game with all the detail and less resolution will look better than a game with not much detail and more resolution.

Because they can only complain and cry without anyone calling them out. They have searched the market and saw that a PC that can ran all games at 60 fps and 4k or have no downgrades etc need a substantial amount of investment either time or money or both of them. But here they can cry that a game can't hit 60fps at crazy graphical fidelities with a machine that cost 500 fucking dollars/euros and the console warriors will carry their water for them.

I think the option will be there, unless graphic quality skyrockets mid-gen.

In that case, I could see devs dropping the option because, at that point, the graphical difference between 30fps mode and 60fps mode could be abysmal.

So, yo, some of us, we don't sit on front of a 20 something inches monitor. Wr sit in front of a 70 inch screen, and yes, 4k is very easily noticed. 1080p is blurry, and 1440 is serviceable.

There are good upscaling tech of course, and there are always trade offs and stuff to do to bring the overall best result.

But come on, if you can't see 4k you just need to get with the times and get a bigger screen.

I agree, midgen refresh is probably on it's way.

Maybe this time they can bring DLSS into consoles? It's a much better solution for 4K than checkerboarding, and it could help with RTX too.

Crayon people paid much more than $599 for their vanilla consoles. A pro model for that price would be a total steal and I agree that it would sell pretty nicely.

2. They're not intimidating at all. The problem is the laziness in people who just want their thing, and don't want to have to read or learn about the product they're buying. Putting a PC together is easy as hell.

3. Ah, the 'ol driver updates lmfao! What is it when your console forces a firmware update?? As if that doesn't happen? I choose when to update my PC, with firmware updates almost always revolving around optimization for new games. You don't seem to know much about PCs.

4. Yeah, you put a disc in and it "works". That's all you're owed. Shitty performance be damned because if it's bad, then you're stuck with it.

5. Troubleshooting which isn't as common as you'll make it out to be, doesn't happen often really. When it does, you do a quick search, and guaranteed the fix is there because someone else had your same problem. Not a big deal.

Digital Foundry should just hire you instead of making all these video with 8x zoom trying to tell reconstruction from native 4K or counting pixels to find out the resolution.

Also, if 1080p is blurry to you maybe you are the one that needs to check your eyes. I play both on a 4K TV and on a 1080p monitor. I couldn't give less of a shit about 4K, I'll take the better performance of rendering in 1080p any day when playing on PC.

A lot of that bullshit has been refuted ad nauseam, but this one deserves special attention. You know which controller I use for PC gaming? Whichever is the absolute optimal for that specific game. Is it a 2D game? I have an arcade stick with Seimitsu stick/buttons, a Saturn pad, and a Neo Geo pad. Is it a 3D game? I have the Wii, Wii U, and Switch Pro Controllers; Dual Shock 3 and 4 (though I would never use them); Xbox One and Series controllers; and a Steam Controller. This is to say nothing of the ridiculous bounty of specialty controllers like flight sticks, racing wheels, and, yes, mouse and keyboard.

Even with card prices dropping a low to midrange card with performance at or slightly above current gen consoles is AS MUCH as a console.
