Why is Destiny so Compelling?

I was bored, so I made this from Forceatowulf's gif:

I didn't make that gif, I got it from a dude in the Destiny thread. It really needed that tag though. haha

I want to like it. But the art design and Halo-esque gunplay are actually both checks in the negative column for me. :(

Kudos on the way the Alpha and Beta "marketing" has been going. It's all gamers on my feed have consistently been talking about for a month or more.

Yeah, once I hit the hard cap...which will admittedly take me a decent amount of time with how little I get to devote to gaming nowadays, I'll be done until some expansion comes around. I think it'll be a blast along the way, but it's sort of MMO ish by design take on everything will have you feeling like you're doing the same things over and over in the same areas at times.

I'm just laughing at duder saying he blasted through GZ once, implying he didn't bother with anything else on offer, and saying it feels more like a beta. To each his own, just find it a goofy thing to say if you haven't even explored all there is.

I don't give a damn about the level cap as much as I'd prefer to have a good amount of content in the game which is a certainty coming from Bungie. I don't wanna grind exp while getting through the content I'm playing,

Frankly, no one should play Destiny for leveling.

Don't get me wrong, the game is good... but magical? I mean it's Borderlands meets Halo. A fantastic combination, but nothing revolutionary. At the games absolute pinnacle, it is buttery smooth game play that loads of fun. There's nothing wrong with this, but Destiny isn't going to change how we think about gaming. (and that's alright!)

I don't think there's anybody who think Destiny is revolutionary and frankly, not every game should be innovating. If it has good gamepay mechanics and can be fun while playing it, that's all that matters.

For me, it reminds me of the first time I played Halo: Combat Evolved. It was new, fresh and co-op friendly. Really, this game feels like a real sequel to Halo 3. Only much bigger. Plus, it reminds me of my Dreamcast days with PSO. A central hub for quest gathering and then raiding with friends in a secluded map.

That happened to me when I was making a bunch of clips of me "dance fighting".

Even the most basic actions are ridiculously polished. There is an immensely satisfying friction to everything you do, which creates an awesome feedback loop where you want to keep playing just because it feels good.

Its one of those rare games where you can tell the people working on it are genuinely interested in making the best experience possible.

Its like Borderlands, I like Borderlands. That is about it for me. I am not saying it is magical, but Bungie delivers more often than not so I am trusting in them this time again.

I feel like it's got a smart, understated narrative that gives the sense that a lot of time has passed and that a lot of different actors have caused large changes in the world. Seeing the aftermath and meeting races that are taken for granted as having been there a long time makes me want to know more about what happened.
