Why is sony so quiet?

They have said absolutely nothing about the ps3 since the march thing was cancelled. There are no gimmicks to be had ala ourcolony, not a single teaser game image.... Seriously I get the feeling they’ll show a teaser preview film @ e3, announce some specs, some companies on board n then go back to hyping the ps2 till TGS. I guess it’s a good biz move but the wait is horrible.

I think its pretty obvious. They are waiting for MS to reveal everything they have planned first so that they can one-up them where they feel they need to.

MS is anxious to go first so Sony is saying... "well go ahead, by all means".

:lol

Yeah, I had some trouble staying awake through their E3 presentation last year...

Anyway, I'm sure when we get some concrete PS3 info/images we'll all be driving the hype train for them.

What JC10001 said, but also the fact that MS relies on too many third parties for everything so probably there are more leaks that they'd like.
Sony is really good at keeping secrets. No one could have ever imagined about PSP during E3 2003,no one expected a PStwo coming in late 2004 and no one could have ever imagined the partnership with nVidia for the PS3 GPU.

Why does Sony even need to say anything at the moment when the media is already doing a pretty decent job of hyping the PS3?

For some reason I picture Sony execs living like Antonio Banderas on SNL's "The -- how do you say? Ah, yes... show" skit.

NEVER underestimate the power of a good Powerpoint presentation.

Sony is going to blow our minds with charts and graphs.

You just see. ;)

Well, Sony could wait until late March of next year and put out a teaser site like Microsoft and they'd exactly be on Microsoft's schedule, unveiling the PS3 4 days before E3 2006.

I agree with what's been said. Sony has the advantage of waiting until AFTER Microsoft says something and then trying to trump it. It's a nice position to be in in many respects. The absolute worst thing would be to announce things beforehand that Microsoft can react to. Better to wait for them to put their cards on the table.

Yes, Microsoft is behind the 8-ball. They only have hundreds of thousands of drones.

The Drone Wars.

Quoted for truth. Lots of people will buy a PS3 simply because it's the next PlayStation. They don't have to impress you into buying their stuff like MS and Nintendo.

- No big news before E3 (it's always like that! jeez... )
- Leaving the PSP launch alone. Talking too much of the PS3 could distract people from PSP.
- They don't need to push the PS3 that fast either. PS2 is very healthy and yes they probably wait for Microsoft to blow your mind first and simply counter-attack.

Wait till next march and they’d be on MS's schedulable? Isn’t the damn thing supposed to hit jpn by then? And I don't really get this wait till MS shows its hand game. @ this stage in the game, the only thing that can really be changed in either system is RAM. I mean I highly doubt NVIDIA is going to send its engineers running back to the blueprints if the ATI chip can do x and y. Also, don't you guys think that sony, ms, nvidia and ati all know damn well everything there is to know about the competition? If we can get a bunch of random GAFers "on the inside," I would think they can as well. The only people that are going to be surprised by the "competition" are the fanboys, not ms or sony. And I am certain the same stands on the software front.

It's not about waiting to see what the 360 is about and change their machine. It's marketing tactics. You wait for your competition to open his mouth and you can use what he's saying to your advantage and also it helps you as to know what to talk and what to put the emphasis on.

Also, there's always people "in the know" of course. But they are asked not to talk. They can sign NDAs. Everything have to be planned and organised for marketing a new product, you just can't talk out of nowhere anywhere anytime. And why do you think there is big conventions like the E3 per example.

There's a freakin load of people that don't know shit and will be surprised at E3 and then the E3 will make another wave in the medias for gamers out there.

I just hope its 'good' quiet and not 'bad' quiet. They were very quiet before the PSP launch, and then really came out fighting (at least for the US launch), with some really strong software releases. Many from Sony in-house.

I'm hoping for at least the same, if not more, for PS3 (it is more important for them than PSP, at least)

wyzdom im not talking about "people." I’m talking about sony and ms execs/engineers. You don't think sony knows EXACTLY what is going to be included in the xbox 360? You don't think nvidia knows just about as much as ati regarding the x360 GPU and vice versa? You don't think that both sony and ms know exactly where the 3rd parties stand (including yet to be announced megatons and all)? My point was that the 2 companies really have nothing to hide from each other as i am sure they each have plenty of corporate moles. Thus what I was saying is that there really is nothing that MS can come out and say that would take sony by surprise. I mean take software for instance… MS comes out n says GTA is ours, exclusive. Now this would be WOW OMFG @#$#@$@ for the fanboys, but I am more than certain that sony would have known this many months in advance… practically before the inc was dry.

sony has been taking notes from Perrin Kaplan.

Of course they know. They may not know everything about their competitor. There's even against industrial espionnage. When you say something like "why Sony is quiet" it addresses to people. They seem quiet right now because they are quiet to people, medias etc about the PS3. And after i tried to explain you why.

Maybe because Sony doesn't have much to say concerning the PS3?

It's going to be a tertiary concern for them at E3, behind PSP and PS2. They'll show some tech demos, rattle off specs and techie hype, maybe show a couple videos of actual games in development. Then they'll rattle off the list of publishers working on PS3 games, and drop the names of a few high-profile games (perhaps some exclusives) coming to PS3. That's it. Just enough to get the fanboys orgasming and give the media something to compare the Xbox 360 with. I doubt we'll even see the case.

When TGS rolls around, we'll get more, and the hype train will be in full motion by next year's E3.

So are you saying Sony will be ready to counter that with Sexy Beach 4: HD (Touching is Good, Feeling is Better) ?

eh, heres hoping some freshman square artist gets drunk one nite and uploads everything they got to a public ftp.... sniff

This time last year Sony had nothing to say about the PSP either. It's nothing unusual or new. Hell the PSP is out now, the PS3 won't even be out this time next year. MS is just making more noise because they actually want to launch the machine this year, Sony couldn't give a shit, they could release the PS3 at the end of 2006 and it wouldn't make a damn difference, since PS2 games will be more than enough to keep the hype train going (see: KH2 thread). :D

Sony's focus right now is on the PSP... at E3 I expect there to be much more of a focus on the PSP, and all the goodies still coming down the pipe for the PS2... I won't be surprised if they really don't speak in great detail on the PS3.

Do we know at what time the ‘PS3 show' will happen? Sony Pictures Plaza something on the 16th I think, but what time? Not yet announced?

Yeh, Sony is just waiting to LAY THE SMACKDOWN and pwn those bitches.

...yeah...

Not really quiet if you have sources

My sources say, Sony is working on a Nintendogs-Killer called "Operation Crowbar"

take that with some Sake.

Exactly, their going to use the same strategy MS and Nintendo used last gen, when they waited for Sony to show their hand first and then one-up them.

I guess they saw how well the strategy worked for Ninty and MS and decided to copy it this gen. Sony are just crafty like that. :D

I still wonder how much they'll really unveil at E3. The system isn't coming out this year, so I'm not sure there would be an advantage in spilling all the beans at this point. I'd expect to see at least enough in video form to show that the hardware is living up to some of the rumors that have been tossed around. Not sure what to expect beyond that.

I think its just a simple case of Sony not having en0oough to show at this point in time with the PS3. MS is coiming out this year, so they HAVE to have alot more to talk about.

I believe this new. The tactic would be to start spilling all the beans when it's the Xenon launch and distract PS2 userbase from going for a Xenon. If Sony aren't stupid that's what they will do i suppose.
