Why is Vanille (FFXIII) such a childish character?

Isn't it obvious? It says so right on her bracelt.

Because Japan

When Americans don't understand Japanese culture then translates it to poor character design. They got the game first and was made with a Japanese culture mindset so things like this are added in. I wish there was something deeper, but no. You gotta remember, these aren't American characters you are interacting with in the game so we shouldn't expect them to act all Americany. There are no Nathan Drakes to be had here and we shouldn't be looking for them.

Who cares about American characters? I want human beings!

Its so clear to me now, I was obviously lying to myself and Sazh wasnt my least favourite character.

I just find it funny how you call Sazh a tired, generic, character, when everybody agrees he's a breath of fresh air in a cast literally full of generic, one note anime tropes found in every Japanese game ever.

really? I thought she was mostly consistent with her attitude in the scenes she was in

I haven't noticed it now that I'm 15 hours in or so, but the first few scenes she's in, it's like the actress couldn't make up her mind on how to talk.

Well if "everybody" agrees then it has to be true right? Even if that were the case, just because he's a new character type for the Final Fantasy franchise doesnt mean he's not a tired generic character type in general. Which I find him to be. He's a poor attempt at doing an everyman character that I found constantly grating. But hey, if "everybody" thinks otherwise I guess I'll just change my opinion. So I suppose Snow is now my least favourite character.

The only thing I had against Vanille was how annoying her run animation was. If you want a childish character, take Snow. To me, he is the worst character in the cast.

His annoying naruto bullshit got old fast.

Totally expected him to start saying "BELIEVE IT".

So many people also aren't aware that the localization exaggerates Vanille's character. Her dialogue is a bit more muted and the fact that part of her act is a facade is more obvious in Japanese.

Snow was pretty cool and I really liked him. I didn't think about it but he does share some similarities to Naruto.

Now I wish he said "Believe it!" :(

Lightning::Vahn
Vanille::Balthier

Seriously, Vanille is (sadly) the most developed character in the entire game, and the one character who gives the most insight and narration.

I'll admit, if FF13's ultimate culmination was that the main character was secretly the main villain, it probably would have turned out to be a better game.

But instead we got Final Fantasy Merchandising: Japan <3 Lightning edition.
