i find it espescially weird since you still need a PC to run RE4 Wii in HD. and for the record, it still has some bugs that prevent it from being properly playable, though it's getting there slowly but surely.Minsc said:Now you're just being cruel... :lol
It really astounds me people going off about the PC version being the end all port, are blind to the missing lighting, the effect it has to the mood of the game is 10x more important than texture clarity to me, but ymmv I suppose. I guess they're just happy their lighting got patched to the point it wasn't complete ass, like in the release version.
It's something that has to be seen in motion to understand too, perhaps it's not missed as much as I think, but since I'm aware of the many differences, I realize they're missing, like the way lightning doesn't look nearly as good, or the way the flashlight isn't as good either.
Draft said:Uh, RE4 (Gamecube version) is the best looking game from the PS2 generation, technical mumbo jumbo be damned. It's a flawless work of art. Bow your head.
yeah, 32 bit colour is one of my favourite things about games running in dolphin. bye bye dithering.brain_stew said:I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the IQ in the WII/GCN on original hardware is beyond terrible. 360p and 16 bit colour with zero aa/af looks fucking terrible, to the point where it takes a huge amount away from the game, its just prohibitively ugly. If the IQ was at least upto normal GCN standards maybe it wouldn't be so bad, but its just so beyond terrible in RE4, that its not surprising people find it hard to look past.
This is why the game running well on Dolphin is so important, we can finaly see what the game looks like without having to face blurry/jaggy/dithered hell.
scitek said:Can anyone answer this? When running the Wii version of RE4 in widescreen, is it actually being rendered in widescreen, or did they do nothing more than just have it cropped/zoomed to get rid of the black bars?
when running it on the wii, yeah, there's just some zooming deal going on (which is what the PS2 version did too). in dolphin i'm not 100% sure if there is some zooming going on.scitek said:Can anyone answer this? it's full screen and definately higher res. any pixel counters about?
i could compare 1280 x 1024 letterboxed with 1280 x 720 widescreen... that would work. brb.brain_stew said:Easy way to check, set the game to 4:3 mode and use the widescreen hack to get 16:9 1080p rendering. Take side by side shots and any amount of up scaling should be easy to tell.
Edit: Actually that won't work, you'll get borders still.
GC version looks great on my TV, don't know what your problem is. Are you playing it on a 60" plasma or something? Well no shit, of course it's not gonna look good in that case, no standard definition game is.brain_stew said:I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the IQ in the WII/GCN on original hardware is beyond terrible. 360p and 16 bit colour with zero aa/af looks fucking terrible, to the point where it takes a huge amount away from the game, its just prohibitively ugly. RE4 IS really dithered. there's no argument about that. it might not have been obvious on your TV but it absolutely was an issue.nincompoop said:GC version looks great on my TV, don't know what your problem is. And RE4 wasn't drawing more polygons than any other last-gen game, that honor goes to Rogue Squadron 3.

generally the wii stuff tends to be a bit more demanding yeah.IrishNinja said:...jesus, that's gorgeous. ive been holding off on Killer 7 and now i wanna play it looking like that.
ive been meaning to post my specs to see how far off i am of running this proper, but ive a dumb question first: im not looking to emulate much on wii right now (thought Endless Ocean would be cool), but on GC, id love to play what im seeing here of Wind Waker, RE4 and again K7 - are the demands for running GC vs Wii much different? i know the hardware's uh, very similar, just wondering if the one for my needs might be easier.

brain_stew said:Oh, I'd agree if I could actually see all those excellent effects and the insane geometric detail (no game last generation pushed as many polys as RE4) beneath all the hideous aliasing, blur and dithering. Its no surprise to me that it cleans up so well, the base assets and technology were never the problem, the IQ was.
elrechazao said:He also gives no source for that, so I'm not sure he's not pulling that out of his ass. It's not like steam where they get a report of what gfx card their users have. He has zero idea how many people play his game on an hdtv or not....
cw_sasuke said:So what rig do you need to play cube games in 720p ?

Edit: There's a total lack of compression so I'm just going to link it

do I have to rip the game, or does the wii emulator read original discs ?
I've wanted to play the game again ever since I imported a US GCN copy (beat it on pal PS2 the first time), and that may be a good occasion to go back to it.
thanks, I have a 2GB SD card somewhere in my house, just have to find it and I'll rip my NTSC-U disckiruyama said:you need a special drive to read Wii/GC discs. If you have a Wii though you could always rip it over Wi-fi or to an HDD.
edit: can't rip GC games to an HDD via Wii, apparently. Gotta use an SD card, which is fine since the largest a GC game can get is like 1.5 GB

KAL2006 said:so do you think my setup is good enough also is their any configurations or hacks i should know about
Semantic Continuum said:I'm not going to say this is absolute truth, but to play an emulator you likely need a BIOS of the game system, and downloading it is illegal (I can't remember if ripping it is also abuse but whatever).
brain_stew said:I'd recommend OCing that CPU, it'll make a big difference and your CPU is a great clocker.
IrishNinja said:ok, so i got my specs together, i know they're not crazy awesome but they're good for what i do with em. i just wanted to know how far off i am from running Wii emulation in 720p, or even Gamecube in such. Again, id love to get Wind Waker and Killer 7 running like some of the videos/images here, just wanna know how far i am from that based on what ive got going.
2.13 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
running Windows 7 RC, buncha drive space left
still havent really seen a benchmark, hopefully im not far off, at least for the GC emulation.
