Wii emulator can do 720p HD

Could somebody please do me a huge favour and take some high-res/quality shots of NSMB with Fire Mario running/shooting flames, please? I need it for Sales Age. Thanks in advance! :D

What kind of settings should you use to get a nice clean no jaggy image but still a good framerate?

Also is 4525 the newest version?

4xMSAA does the trick, 8xMSAA if you're taking a screenshot for gaf to drool over.

No it's not.

By the way, Endless Ocean is working flawlessly as well.

Anybody tried Silent Hill: Shattered Memories with this yet?

My God, Endless Ocean looks...gorgeous...
Black screen for me. I'll download the VERY latest rev and screw around with the settings to see if I can get it to work.

8xMSAA, 8x Anisotropic Filtering is how I play normally. Mario Galaxy does get some slowdown though everything is still very playable. I think I may try my hand at some OCing tonight and see if I can open up my framerates a bit. Any specific Galaxy shots desired btw? (I'm not that far yet, but am looking to play it all the way through again)

Apparently some folks over at the Dolphin forums have got Shattered Memories running with working audio on an older revision, and a hacked newer revision. Turning the flashlight off makes the game run full speed, but obviously that's not a great way to play the game.

Not so great looking honestly.... it's probably all thanks to that low-res film grain.

NSMBWii sounds fine with the HLE plugin.
wait, last I read, you had to use the OTHER one (forget the name, LLE?) because otherwise on pushing start you got a constantly scrolling hill background that never ended. has that been fixed?

Yeah...

Wesker,

Which revision of the emu are you using? I'd love to play Endless Ocean, but it doesn't work right on the build I have. (4525)

Anything special to get it to work? Or will a newer build do?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what revision I was using, as I'm away from my computer for a few days, but I'd try downloading the latest.

I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything special to get it to work.

I know Twilight Princess' textures weren't too hot but does it at least get rid of that horrible dithering? Dolphin doesn't emulate the dithering does it?

Is it even possible for Nintendo to release a WiiHD at a 250ish price point that will even come close to replicating these emulator screen shots???

As you can see, it also had curiously crisp HUD elements like NSMBWii.
Nice! I'll have to try it out sometime. Does it emulate well? I kind of feel like playing the game again, but I don't want to go fishing under my bed to get the Gamecube out.

Well considering Microsoft was selling 360's at a $200 price point for some time, and the 360 is capable of rendering current gen games at 720p (and a handful at 1080p) with AA... it might be possible.

It looked and ran just fine a year ago, though it was a bit on the slow side compared to Wind Waker (for obvious reasons). It probably runs fullspeed by now.

EDIT: Shit, didn't mean to double post.

Is there a way to delete posts? I've never needed to do so before now.

Wow.

So I'm planning to build a new PC soon, basically like this:

Intel Core i5-750
ATI Radeon 5770
4 GB RAM

I wasn't planning on overclocking anything, so at stock speeds, how would this system do with Dolphin at 1080p? Would it be worth it to push my budget even further and get a better CPU or GPU or what?

Oh, and for GameCube games, does anyone make a good input-lag-free GameCube controller USB adapter?

Better CPU would help.

Eh, I don't think it'd make much difference. An i5-750 is about as good as it gets at stock due to its aggressive turbo mode (its effectively a 3.2ghz processor for dual core apps like Dolphin), the pricier i7 920 for instance will not be nearly as good at running Dolphin at stock speeds. Paying an extra $100 for a .26ghz bump in clockspeed (from an i7-860) doesn't make much sense really.

If you need more CPU grunt then OCing is the only real option. Core 2s and Phenom iis are much slower clock for clock so they're not worth considering even if their stock clocks are higher.

GPU is fine, if you REALLY can't be bothered to overclock, you might want to go with the i7 860 as its only slightly more money and what you really want is a high clock-speed and 2.8 > 2.66. And as a bonus, you get hyperthreading and a higher starting point in case you decide to overclock later on.

Its not 2.66-2.8, its 3.2 - 3.46 for dual core apps like Dolphin. Is a ~7% performance increase really worth a 50% increase in price? Hyperthreading is only a consideration if you're using programs that will make use of it (i.e. application that make heavy use of 6+ threads), if you don't already know that you need it, chances are that you don't.

I dunno if he uses any programs that make use of more than 4 threads, but I do and that's why I mentioned it.

Well I only said that cause I have that exact same PC (except for a 4870 instead of the 5770) and Galaxy ran at 20-40fps, not really playable. I figured it must be the CPU.

That's an interesting series of shots as it allows us to compare the game to the higher resolution Silent Hill 3 shots.

Yeah, Shattered Memories has some pretty garbage textures, unless it's a sign or poster with text (they made sure those were nice and crisp).

Could you explain that a little bit more? How do you know the 'actual' clock speed for dual core applications? And what does the 2.6/2.8 GHz number actually mean?

The less cores you use, the faster the chip clocks. I was actually wrong before, the i7-860 only clocks upto 3.33ghz when using two cores, so there's no real advantage to it over a i5-750 for Dolphin or other dual core optimised applications. OCing is therefore the only real way to get anything noticabley faster than a stock i5-750 in Dolphin and PCSX2.

I did not knew about this. Is this done automatically or is it something I have to set up in the bios?

I'm pretty sure it's enabled by default.

Main difference being the framerate, on the old revision it ran at 8 fps, compared to the 30 I get now. :D They've also fixed that crappy looking shadow from before...

oh wow, I had never heard that before. Thanks a bunch!

edit: that link really is an excellent read. Got me almost completely updated on the current CPU market.

Hmm. Twilight princess has awesome character models and character textures but garbage environment textures :/

Someone should make a complete index on games, how they run, what can be seen awesomely (textures better, textures garbage) with a couple of screens, and what certain settings would be good to use :D

Endless Ocean looks great as well
