Wii U Games 2015

but.... you obviously have an outlet by your tv... isn't the gamepad charging cable long enough to just plug it in there and have the controller next to you on the couch? o.o

It's plugged into a splitter behind the 50" tv which is on top of a 2m wide cabinet. Even if i could move it next to the couch, i have 2 todlers running around the house, and would have the chord running through the middle of the living room. I "could" do this when i watch when they're asleep, but it would just be too much of a hastle to get the chord from behind the tv each time and put it back afterwards. I think i would mind doing so much more than limiting my Netflix sessions to 5 hours.

Aside from beautiful platforming level design, the main thing that Sunshine has over Galaxy is a deeper acrobatic moveset, with or without FLUDD.

anyway didn't mean to veer off on that tangent. Remastered game or no, 2015 will be insane

I wouldn't mind them taking a little from Sunshine. Sunshine's level design isn't perfect, but I do like how some of the levels are very open and allows for more explorative platforming. I wouldn't want the whole game to be like that, because Galaxy's set a bar for quality in how they moved you through levels, but exploring a space and figuring out where the stars are offers an interesting way to play 3D Mario.

I know some fans love this, but I actually think what you described is better suited to an open-world Metroidvania-type game than 3D Mario. If you think about it you essentially described Metroid Prime in third person. But, I know some really love the idea of that in their 3D Mario. I really like Galaxy's more focused platforming and exploration.

Well aren't you just a little ray of Sunshine.

;)

Oh, yes, it's definitely the acrobatic moveset that helps Sunshine to have its own unique style of levels. I think in a way it becomes too complex though, and in conjunction with F.L.U.D.D. you get some very esoteric kind of open-world platforming.

Anyway! I agree that 2015 is going to be an incredible year for Wii U! :)

That's what I keep thinking when people keep bringing that series up when talking about platformers.

Certainly in later games anyway, in earlier ones you had some interesting things going on with the backpack, but better than Mario Galaxy? It's just not true.

(Not played enough Banjo to give an opinion)

Banjo is just Mario 64 with a slower pace and less acrobatics and more exploration. I love it to bits but it's not even the same kind of game as Galaxy. Actual gameplay is more akin to a Zelda game in Banjo but set in Mario 64 style levels with multiple objectives every time you re-enter.

No, I'm specifically speaking of how some of Sunshine's levels are really big and the star objective is a little vaguer. Some of galaxy's big levels are very vertical, where some of Sunshine's big levels are very horizontal in their design. This leads to the game leading you around less, and allowing you to use your mario skill set to explore. This is lost when you are jumping from bit-sized bits of gameplay that the planetoids represented.

Again, Galaxy is fantastic, but I would love the variety of the occasional sunshine style large level.

That said, a Mario game with the mario moveset and level design as open as a metroidvania would actually be incredible.

Oh, yes. I understand a bit better now what you mean. I think a clearer blend of both kinds of platforming would be very much like a 3D "Mario"vania, especially with seamlessly interconnected worlds. I suspect that could be what we'll see with a new Metroid for Wii U, but I would be surprised if Nintendo was willing to make 3D Mario any more oblique in player goals than it did with SMS.

I'm not interested in an open world Mario game, thus why I didn't like Sunshine (its rambling and disorganized levels didn't help either). Mario doesn't need to be an adventure game. We have Zelda for that. I find Mario at its best when it is a tight obstacle course game, platforming at its purest.

Me to! That's why I think the 3D Land and 3D World are amazing games.

The best parts about Sunshine were the levels without F.L.U.D.D.

So GameStop put the following Wii U games up for pre-order:
-Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
-Yoshi's Woolly World
-Splatoon
-Devil's Third
-Mario Party 10

Since GameStop doesn't usually put Nintendo titles up for pre order until a few months before release, I think it's safe to assume this is our H1 lineup for 2015 (alongside Mario Maker which I'm almost certain will get a retail release).

Yes, that's probably correct. Kirby has a release date in the NoA territory (February 13th). Devil's Third and Mario Party 10 have been classified in Australia (and usually, the classification for Nintendo retail games occurs about 3 months prior to release there). And last Friday, NoA said (according to IGN) that Yoshi's Wooly World and Splatoon would arrive at about the same time as Kirby (and Codename S.T.E.A.M).

Devil's Third is the only real surprise there. I think the rest of those games we all pretty much figured would be early in the year. Pretty strong first half lineup they have there.

i really love the art style of mario but i keep thinking that i would like them to make some new ips with that style away from the mario world. Splatoon is a okay start but seriously what were they thinking having girl squids fighting tentacles.

What's wrong with it? Seems like a great idea to me

Bring on the squids!

I typed up this list for that other thread ("I regret buying my WiiU") as a response to some troll post about "only 4 games coming in 2015 lolol." Used it as an excuse to remind myself of the indie/third party line-up for 2015 and beyond. I kept it to the most notable games who have some potential and substantial info out there already and are not ports of old games or have been out on other systems for months/years. Quite the sizable list (some are exclusive):

First party (all 2015): Kirby, Yoshi, Mario Maker, Splatoon, Xenoblade X, Devil's Third, Star Fox, Zelda, Project Giant Robot & Project Guard, Mario vs DK, Mario Party 10

A selection of third party titles (some might not make it out in 2015):
Multiplatform

  • The Legend of Lobodestroyo
  • Soul Saga
  • Hover: Revolt of Gamers
  • Red Goddess: Inner World
  • Y II K
  • A.N.N.E
  • Aztez
  • C-Wars
  • Chromophore: Two Brothers Director's Cut
  • etc...

"Console exclusive"

Only Splatoon really interests me of those. MP10 is a big maybe, not sure if really need more local multiplayer games; MK8, Smash and Nintendo Land are more than enough.

are you joking with me or being for real with whats wrong with it. my internet sarcasm detector might not be working.

i don't get it either.
you probably mean the anime sexual tentacles cliche which would be very far-fetched

Yeah, that's most likely what he means. Ridiculous.

man add a few multiplats on that and the platform would be seriously good... too bad.

anyways I can only hope that there will be a few third party collaboration like zelda musou next year.

mario strikers winning eleven edition!

you mean AAA multiplats or just multiplats because a few posts above yours I compiled a nice selection of upcoming Wii U multiplats^^

Not that far fetched their are already Japanese comics of peach with bowser or mario. After this game is released and the Japan expo comes around, think about how many comics/images will pop up with these characters.

Good lineup for the first half of the year. Also have to remember that the third and fourth Hyrule Warriors DLC packs as well as the second Mario Kart 8 DLC pack are coming out too. Plus maybe something for Smash (beyond Mewtwo). Pretty good lineup all around. Devil's Third this soon surprises me a bit.

Only new game out of those I'm really all in on right now though is Splatoon.

Assuming he means AAA. A lot of people just don't find indie games to be as compelling. I'm like that at times. Depends on the game obviously, so it's bad when people lump all indie games together.

I am most curious about how they'll position Devil's Third and what kind of push Nintendo will put behind it. They did nothing for Wonderful 101 and we know the result of that. Perhaps the type of game it was just wasn't explained well or didn't strike a cord with people at large. Bayonetta 2 though seems to have gotten a far greater push and marketing. Perhaps also it was an easier sell by comparison. As a result it has likely sold exponentially better. Perhaps the individual market sales might not be great but maybe world wide the sales might end up being decent when you account a single platform vs Bayonetta 1 being on two and released during a different time period. Numbers on Bayonetta 2 would be nice.

With no Call of Duty this year or perhaps next year either. Certainly no other traditional or darker theme shooters the game along with Splatoon can be positioned by Nintendo as alternatives. Both covering different taste in shooters. The key is to sell Wii U owners on the game. Forget about pushing the game to get people to buy Wii U's. That could happen by showcasing the entire library over time but that single game isn't going to flip that switch for a large number of people I think.

I like shooters and action games. I've enjoyed Bayonetta and I enjoyed Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge even though it frustrated me to no end. So I'm in for the purchase at the moment. More interested then "omg I have to buy this". I still want to be sold on the game ultimately in the end.

They will put zero push behind it. Look at Bayo, look at W101, and it will be somewhere in between there. Maybe. I doubt it.

Toad, mind you I love the game, gets endcaps and all kinds of POP marketing and push, because their people know how to sell that stuff, but these other games don't get the full push.

Honestly I don't care what kind of push they make. I have slowly been getting the feeling that they don't have the people capable of understanding and reaching all of the markets they want/need to. Which is fine. Just have to stop expecting anything getting any real push outside of their big recognizable names and games.

Which sucks because for a game like Devil's Third to be really successful they need to build a market for it. Which I am not sure they know how to, and when they have a baked in market they seem to flub some major function of it, see Amiibo.

Shovel Knight in Road Redemption
Posted by DarkSeas Games

Today we'll be releasing another Road Redemption update that, in addition to fixing some minor bugs, will allow you to play as Shovel Knight and ride a custom blue Shovel Knight Chopper.

To celebrate this addition, we've created a little Shovel Knight-centric trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OikEQxORLxo

If you haven't played the game that Shovel Knight comes from (also called Shovel Knight), and you like platformers or 2d action games, you ought to give it a shot.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/250760/

It's really a great game. It's the kind of game that actually lives up to the rose-tinted memories we have of playing NES, which, of course, means it's actually far better than those games ever were. I'll take Shovel Knight over Megaman any day. Blasphemy? Prove me wrong Capcom. Prove me wrong.

Shovel Knight was also a kickstarted project, so a lot of you have probably played it AND funded it. So I guess we owe you a double thank you.

More Road Redemption updates are coming soon. If you haven't played the game in a while, we're improving things every week. Performance is probably 1000% better than when we launched, load times are 50% faster, and it's generally more fun. We added a bike and character selection last week that we think is a pretty cool addition.

We're still working hard on porting to Mac, Linux, Wii U and others.

We're also doing a lot of online multiplayer testing. Making a game where players move hundreds of miles per hour AND that focuses on melee combat is pretty much the perfect storm of what you DON'T want when programming for latency. Nevertheless, it's our goal to make sure online play is smooth and input-delay free. We're confident that we'll achieve this goal.

looking forward to this!

I should be a proud owner of a Wii U come year end, this seems the best place to ask this.

If people can direct me to the Wii U owners OT though that would be great.

Got a great price for a used (in great condition) limited edition Zelda Premium console. It also comes with a boxed copy of Super Luigi U (which I know is rare).

Is it worth getting a Wii+ remote? I have a standard Wii Remote, that is it, and a sensor bar.

Looking forward to filling my Nintendo fix.

Yes, get a Wiimote Plus and a Nunchuk. Sooner or later you're gonna need one, probably. Especially if you want to play Pikmin 3 (which you absolutely should). Remember that you need those for Wii games. Having a Wiimote Plus is just plain better than dealing with the motionplus dongle if you come across a game that requires that at some point.

Awesome, thanks, I will keep an eye out for a deal on one!

I've got Nunchucks too, forgot about them.

Shame it isn't coming before Christmas

I had only wanted a Wii U for Bayo 2, but couldn't justify buying a console for one game, then my buddy talked me into it due to all the great games it has and Jesus my Wii U library has become pretty large in such a short time. I spend more time on that than my PS4 or PC.

Edit: I've been hyped for Splatoon since I got a Wii U.

No online at this point for such a game is a travesty, don't waste their time by directing them to a Youtube video.

I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't screw up other areas of the game. This looks a hell of a lot like Mario Party 9, which is one of the worst MPs in the series. On top of that, Bowser mode looks like the same Gamepad-focused BS from Wii Party U. With this game, I wish Nintendo could pretend the Gamepad didn't exist, because it's been poorly implemented in all of their party titles this generation. Let me and my friends enjoy the full experience of the game with just a Wii mote in our hands.

I think MP9 was a lot of fun and is really under-appreciated I think. I really liked the way it shook up the formula, and the Boo board is awesome. FWIW though, I think WPU is essentially MP without the Mario aesthetic. I dunno, to me the games are fundamentally flawed because they bias certain players so it never feels like you get a "fair" game based on skill and strategy.

2015 will really live or die with Mario Maker for me. It's the ultimate killer app, and the game I will probably spend more time with than any other during this generation of hardware.

Yes, Zelda, Starfox, and the rest are important.

But Mario Maker is really the type of game I always envisioned playing when they demoed the Gamepad for the first time during E3 2011. I will live and breathe that piece of software for the rest of my life if they deliver as advertised.
