It seems it's effectively a cross platform purchase everywhere but with a twist.

The other platform code will be given to you as a download code, which means you can give it to someone else. Which is actually better than regular cross platform purchases.

Got myself a Black WiiU for only £84 ($130) two days ago :D. So I can now officially see this thread and smile widely :). Still haven't opened it though lol.

Mario Maker is a big one I'm looking forward. I've never gotten into content creation (eg. LBP), but when it's a classic formula like Mario I think it'll finally click for me.

Xenoblade and Zelda U are the big two though. Big GOTY contenders I reckon.

Mario's design here reminds me of the Toy World in Super Mario Land 2.

Just picked up Wii U this week. Wish I would have done this two years ago or even a year ago instead of the XB1. Looks to be an amazing year of releases and a sweet back log of games I missed!

is it bad that I am actually considering Watch Dogs for Wii U because it is $33 on Amazon right now?

Yes, pretty bad. Please don't do it unless you are genuinely interested in the game. There must be plenty of great games out there you haven't played, no? :)

I'd play it for sure, and at $30 I'd be pretty okay with the level of entertainment it looks to provide, I just... probably can hold out for sub $20

Yes, but DSiWare games work on 3DS.
Sure, it's just odd seeing it rebrahded for 3DS retail.

Speaking of which, I wonder if Nintendo will ever start selling WiiWare games on the eShop directly like they do Wii retail games? There's some titles I'd totally rebuy some games for Gamepad controls (La-Mulana, Megaman 9/10, Konami's ReBirth trilogy, Cave Story).

I'd rather they bring over La-Mulana EX :/

Man, I still haven't touched Bayonetta 1+2. and I have had it on my shelve since launch. At least I got something to look forward to.

Any tweets, sneak peeks or info on Devil's Third? I'm dying here for anything new. Where's Itagakis direct?

Look what target has, its getting close Xenoblade Chronicles X

Geeze, does anyone think a June or July release is possible? I can't imagine Target putting something like that out more than 4 or 5 months early. Also kind of surprised to see that at Target period.

I only halfway expected Nintendo to push the game super hard.

I have one of these for Splatoon, and I got it in December, so it's not unheard of (pretty good deal, by the way -- the fine print on the back of the card says they hold your game for two weeks; blows GameStop's pre-orders out of the water, anyway).

I expect X to be a mid-late summer game in the west. I mean, it's out in April in Japan and it seems like it's always been the plan to release it overseas this time. Plus, I don't imagine Nintendo would want X and Zelda too terribly close to each other, as they're both massive, open-world fantasy games.

GAF I just purchased a Wii U. I'm super excited to play Zelda later this year. A couple of questions:

1. Should I get New Super Mario Bros. U or Super Mario 3D World first? I'm leaning towards to latter.
2. Is Hyrule Warriors worth playing if I love The Legend of Zelda but am not a big fan of musou games?
3. Do Wii U games ever drop in price? Everything I see is $60. I'm poor and want to play as many games as possible.

1. Sure, get 3D World first. It's the better game. They're both great though. Don't forget New Super Luigi U!
2. Yes.
3. It depends on the game and how savvy a shopper you can be. You can certainly get a lot of the Wii U on the cheap.

1. SM3DW is a better game, but maybe it's better to start with NSMBU because of this reason. Or even better, play first New Super Luigi U and then SM3DW.
2. If you love Zelda characters it's definitely a game to play. It's surprisingly well done.
3. In retail there are discounts from time to time. On eshop the situation is quite poor, I want to get Nintendo Land and Wii Party U digital for convenience (as I already have the discs) and it's impossible to find them even a little bit discounted (not even at Game).

1. 3D World, no contest.
2. Yes. It's packed with content and the DLC is awesome (plus it has a great price/content ratio).
3. You can find them relatively cheap but you will have to look hard.

A lot of people hate on NSMBU but if you like 2D Mario/platformers I don't think you will be disappointed. 3D World is still the better game though, personally I hold it up there with the two Galaxy games.

I think they are finally starting to give some discounts on first party games on Eshop. Mario Kart 8 was $44 last week (canadian price) and if im not mistaken Mario 3d world was also on sale a few weeks ago (but i cant confirm this one)

New Super Mario Bros U is very good. Haven't played 3D world yet, but it's supposedly better.

As for the cheap games, it really depends on what you're looking for. I bought a bunch of 3rd party games for cheap ($15 or so) and there were more out there. ZombiU can be found cheap (at least in Europe), both Assassins Creed games, Deus Ex HRDC you should certainly check out if you haven't played it yet; Splinter Cell Blacklist was rather enjoyable, Tekken, Injustice, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, NBA201?...

But Nintendo (published) games don't easily drop in price. They do come however at a great launch price in many cases. I bought the Bayo1+2 pack new for €49, I think i saw Pikmin3 for €39 or 49, Captain Toad was also not a full price game...

Sm3DW

Not sure...

Third parties are dirt cheap, but first party rarely dips very low.

1. I got both - beat bowser in both (both have a lot of post game content). They're both great in different ways and you should get both. For some perspective, I'd say NSMBU has a steeper difficulty curve, it definitely gets harder earlier on, 3D World didn't give me much trouble until the world after Bowser, then it has levels designed by sick, awesome bastards! I'm also doing the secret and star road levels of NSMBU and some are crazy hard, moreso if you are going for the three star coins in each level. I mean, look at this: This player makes it look easy!. If I had to choose, I'd say 3D World, but definitely get NSMBU too!

2. I have yet to play Hyrule Warriors, but it's on my list to get, just finished Trop Freeze and WWHD so after Bayo1+2, I'll grab this.

3. Keep an eye out for deals, Trop Freeze went cheap (uk) as a digital download if you picked up any of the SNES VC DKC trilogy. WWHD was my free MK8 game, Pikmin 3 and W101 went for 9 pounds a piece due to an online store pricing error (gaf cheap-ass thread made me aware of those when I was a lurker before I was a member). I don't put off getting something full price I really want, but I shop around, and if I have a backlog to clear, I'll wait, and by the time I'm ready to play, the game I want is on offer. Getting the time to play is another matter - thank Science for off screen play!

Congrats! You're in for quite some enjoyment my friend.
And thank you kindly for not creating yet ANOTHER "hey I got a Wii U" thread!

1. If you don't care about dimensions, 3D World first for sure. It's definitely one of the best games on the U at the moment. But as others have said, DO get NSMB U down the road as well. For both games, make sure you keep playing after the final boss. They both have a good amount of content so you'll be playing for a good while.

2. I bought it but haven't played it yet, due to my current work on backlog reduction. But all pointers seem to go to a fun game chock full of content, great DLC, and amazing fanservice, which seems to be something you care about. I don't know much about the Musou genre.

3. Third party stuff does drop in price, but if you have another 8th gen console and the game you want is there as well, then you might want to stay away from the Wii U version, since it's very likely it'll be the under-performing version of the game. (Unless it's stuff like Rayman Legends, which runs well; stuff like ZombiU, which is exclusive; or like Deus Ex which reportedly uses the GamePad in cool ways).

For first-party... yikes. One thing you may want to practice is PATIENCE. One thing you can do is sign up for Best Buy's Gamers Club Unlocked, which takes 20% off new games (with a limit of 3 per console per year for this discount). So right there you're shaving $12 off three full priced games this year.

Another thing you can do is buy Bayonetta 2 at retail at the full price anyway, since you're getting both Bayonetta games in that case. It's one of the few instances where the full price is justified, and then some.

Another thing you can do is keep a sharp eye on both GAF and sites like CheapAssGamer or SlickDeals.

Lastly, be patient with eShop deals, which Nintendo has been putting out at a steady rate for the past couple of months or so. Sometimes they have a true megaton, like what they did with Mario Kart 8 (offer a free downloadable first-party game) or what they did leading up to Smash (for a week, they would have a series represented in Smash get their Virtual Console AND Wii U digital games discounted -- I believe Tropical Freeze was $30 at that time during the Donkey Kong week). Although those megatons aren't always there, you get softer discounts more often... as recently as last week 3D World digital was $45.

Hope this helps.

Have you played NSLU yet? It only gets harder.

1. SM3DW first, then if you are low on $ get New Super Luigi U it is standalone.
2. Yes
3. Keep out for sales and promos. For example I got MK8 and Pikmin 3 for $60. Bayonetta 2 comes with Bayo 1. W101 is cheap, Deus Ex HR, Need for Speed MW, Both Batman games, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Darksiders 2, AC3, AC4.
Get DKC TF.

Amazon has been dropping the prices of 1st party games fairly frequently in all honesty. These days it's less so, but MK8 went down to $50 within three weeks or so. Try sites like slickdeals.net if you're in the US, and you'll probably spot sales from various online retailers.

If it's in the summer, I sure hope it's not late summer. I imagine Tales of Zestiria will be out in August like ToX and ToX2 the last two years and I don't want Xenoblade Chronicles X, Tales of Zestiria, and Persona 5 having overlap. They deserve 100% of my game time when each releases!

Have you played NSLU yet? It only gets harder.

No, but once I finish all levels of nsmbu with star coins - I'll pick up nslu. The neighbors won't like that!

This example reminds me why I'm so hyped for Mario Maker.

Yea, it could be a big deal if they do it right. The amazing creations in Pushmo (look at maxcriden's avatar!) show that there's gonna be some interesting user content coming - I'd say Mario Maker is more hype for me than any other announced wiiU game, even Zelda.

Man, Nintendo's 2015 seems the equal of 2014. Perhaps not LTD sales like kart 8 and smash.

But DAT quality.

Yeah, several games I'm looking forward to this year. Xenoblade and Mario Maker for sure. Also want to see more of Star Fox (please don't be Star Faux) and Wooly World. Not much of a Zelda fan but it looks good and some of the things I've read about it (plus LBW) give me some hope it might appeal to me.

Devil's Third or Splatoon could end up being a surprise for me, but right now they aren't really grabbing me. And I'm sure Nintendo has something up their sleeve for the second half of the year that we won't hear about until E3.

An example of what you're in for!

And that's world 3!
