is the right stick not that responsive for anyone else? im playing assassins creed and i have to move it quite a bit before the camera moves.

I just noticed that pulling the triggers in the home screen causes the icons to rotate and the Miis to chase after them. That's awesome. It's going to be interesting to see how Sony/MS try to copy this.

Maybe I misunderstood all the talk about half of the system's 2GBs of RAM being dedicated to the OS, but I thought it was to make things run lightning fast. So why is there such a long load time between apps? It may be comparable to other consoles, but I had really come to expect a quick n responsive system as Wii U's most noticeably 'next-gen' feature.

The OS is probably at best to say in a beta state. There are still chunks of it that are dummy code for apps that aren't in yet etc. I would expect as the code is finally all in place that optimization will really commence. December update should start getting the OS in its mostly final build then they can focus on optimizing

I just realized something stupid. I bought a Basic set, so I needed to buy the Gamepad cradle/stand as a separate package, cost $20 from the store. But the cradle costs $8 from the Nintendo Store, and the stand $4!

I want to start playing Mass Effect 3 but neogaf backlash has made this less enjoyable around here
I am trying to find a guide for the best choices to make in the comics pre-game so I can jump in so I have been saving it as the last game to try tonight

everything else I own I've played over an hour of

It does not have 2GBs of RAM dedicated to the OS.

It has 1 GB of RAM dedicated to the OS...

That's 32 times more than the Xbox 360 and 20.5 times more than the PS3.

yeah that little touch is funny and when the screen has a massive amount on there the running is fun to watch. Funnier is that they were all relaxed some get into talking groups of 3 making hand gestures and nodding

Are the Nintendo servers still getting hammered because I still can't connect to the damn thing. I keep getting this Error Code: 102-2128 "Unable to complete the Nintendo Network Account creation process." This had been like that since yesterday. Anyone else experiencing this?

EDIT: OMGOMGOMG finally!

I haven't seen any stores selling it.

But Nintendo is.

EDIT
Beat
and Beat again lol

Thanks, I was looking for this too.

I love reading the impressions you guys post. It's making the wait for the European launch s bit easier. Hopefully it'll run a little better by then. I read that some of you said that Miiverse already runs a bit better, so that's good news. Hopefully they'll be able to fix the hard locking and OS load times soon as well.

Isn't that just wario64?

Wait till custom communities appear. They do have a plan for that right?

Should have eased up a little. No Miiverse errors for me atm.

Do I have to use this tablet controller for all games or can I purchase the pro controller?

Both. Just like the Wii, the pad will be the main control method, but most let you use the pro pad exclusively. Some seem like they'll require wiimote and nunchuk though.

Did anyone figure out what the hard drive error message is caused by? I plugged my usb hdd in (single usb cable) and was able to format it. About 10 minutes later i got an error message saying that there was a problem with my hdd. I know someone had the same problem earlier in the thread.

I got my system today! And no one stole my username. Haha. Not that I think anyone would actually want it.

It took about 50 minutes to download the update and ~10 minutes to install. But it worked first try, which is nice after reading so many people having trouble on launch night.

Anyone figure out why the WiiWare game Lost Winds doesn't transfer to the Wii U? I see it is mentioned on a bunch of sites, and you guys may have already covered it too... It's the only thing that stood out to me on the list of stuff that won't transfer.

EDIT: Saw this in another thread.

Regarding LostWinds not transferring, Frontier (the developer) says Nintendo is testing a fix for that.

So.

I got my Deluxe set at midnight on the 18th. Had it all up and running by 2:30am including all my Wii data moved over.

By 5am, I was loving every aspect of it.

Here's a couple things to note:
1) You can use any headphone and then it will use the mic on the gamepad. This is great for games like COD and such. (or just any headset like from a smartphone...)

2) Since miiverse is so new and you start with zero friends, it will take a while for the plaza's in games and wiiu home screen to fill with other "real" people. But once it does, its pretty cool.

3) You can skip game downloads and go straight into the games while they download in the background. Then once its downloaded you can restart the game to have it install. Very nice and convenient. Too bad the OS update didn't do that lol.

4) I find it FAR better to play games on the gamepad/screen than TV/pro controller. Same buttons but having the screen right in your face is awesome.

5) You may have a rare full lock of the hardware. I think its network related, but it will require you to pull the plug on the console to fix. This seems software not hardware related and should be fixed in an update. Not a concern at the moment.

6) Play with the system and check all settings. There is a ton of things that are not apparent at first that really are neat.

7) Browser is bad ass and best on nonPC yet. Its fast and very useful. Very good shortcuts on gamepad/buttons too. If you find a flash issue, see if the site you're on has a mobile version. That should work fine. (hint: just add "m." in front of the url)

8) Make sure you initiate the friends list, otherwise you wont' be able to add friends. (why its not part of miiverse or automatic, idk) Once its done, finding and adding people is extremely easy.

9) NintendoLand is THE BEST GAME I've played on WiiU so far. The games are incredibly fun and great as solo or with friends. Only downside, is they should have made this game online multiplayer as well. Now you have built-in mics and solid online, it would be perfect.

10) Its annoying that Wii can't take advantage of more than 512MB of storage. I'm still forced to use a SD card. There is no reason they couldn't have tweaked it to use more of the internal storage. Its a minor gripe, but still.

I'm VERY happy with my new purchase so far. There are some launch day issues that will obviously be rectified with patches soon, but that is to be expected. Its also easily eclipsed by the awesomeness of the full features of the console and especially the gamepad. Can't wait to watch MNF (DA BEARS!) while playing games tonight. :)

Picked up Trine 2 and Nano Assault off the eshop. Trine 2 is jaw dropping gorgeous. That parallax scrolling, colors omg the colors! And Nano Assault- great looking game and fun twin stick shooter. Up next are little inferno and chasing aurora. I really want to help support the indie game devs along with Nintendo who are going all out to support them as well.

I'm supposed to be studying for two exams tomorrow, but I ended up playing every level of Metroid Blast. And I've still got to go back and beat every one of them on foot and Master all of them.

I love just grabbing the GamePad, turning on the television, turning on the console, and going straight into the game. The display is noticeably lower quality than the television screen, but I still find myself staring at the GamePad most of the time. I've only played Nintendo Land with one other person so far, so I absolutely can't wait to bring it over to my parents' place for Thanksgiving.

Miiverse is also really cool. The character limit is a bit too restrictive, though. So many posts get lost because of the number of posts being made every minute, but I'm loving some of these drawings.

Unfortunately, I experienced my first hard freeze today. It's a little concerning since it's a brand new console, but I definitely hope it's something that can be fixed.

I also think there should be an actual screenshot feature. The one currently in place isn't exactly what I imagined.

I presume it has been mentioned that Kotaku (and every other gaming site)were talking SHIT when they said the built in Wii U mic doesn't support voice chat?

On BLOPS II all you need to is plug ANY set of headphones into the controller and the mic on the gamepad is activated for voice chat-

I think they were just talking about the Pro Controller not supporting voice chat. You'd need to keep the Gamepad nearby and wire into that to voice chat while you use a Pro controller.

Yeah the complaining was dumb. Such a niche use case.

Quite a few use the pro controller too, but I prefer the gamepad myself.

Just as comfortable, same buttons and layout... and honestly, playing on that screen with TV off is simply better.

I love having the map on the screen when playing BLOPS2! That combined with choosing loadouts on the go is a simple thing to do that I think adds to the gameplay. I would like more but i think that this would be a great thing devs could do on all the systems with their respective WiiU like things(Vita>PS3 crossplay and Smartglass) There really is a bunch of awesome ideas that I can think of using with the pad for games, I hope devs come through with innovative ideas. Can't wait for more information on the Alien Game!

I was going through the online order options and I didn't see one that just let's me order even if its out of stock. Is there one out there? I don't want to chase the console I just want to put the order in and wait.

I was excited to play AC3.

I started a new game, no voice track at the beginning. I quit, went back - no voice track at the beginning. I restarted the entire console, no voice track at the beginning. What the fuck.

I had to get the pro controller to play blops 2, I found unplayable to use the gamepad

How exactly do you get those points for the wii-u on your club nintendo account? I linked my account but was given no option to register and points aren't showing... Did i miss something?

Also one last dumb question, anything worth buying off the E-Shop? (non-retail) i bought a $50 card and have no idea what to get.. Maybe ill just buy scribblenauts? Is it worth $50?

I have the password option for my account enabled, and it asks to enter the password for anything you do profile related. Makes it worse when the menus are as slow as they are right now.

It should only ask once at login and then maybe again if I'm trying to buy something.

Well. I just want to step in to mention that my pre-launch "poor ad" arguments seem valid.

Youtube is flooded with people doing unboxings and reviews, walkthroughs and stuff. Looks like most people are very happy in general. And btw the e-shop looks awesome.

That was one issue ..but they also said you had to buy a full headset for the gamepad and the built-in mic wouldn't work for in game chat

Not so easy I guess and why devote resources to a basically lost cause? Just box it away and make sure exploits aren't used to open up the new system.

It's not like Nintendo didn't try. Out of all exploits, only the SSBB one works, and that one gets actively deleted by the Wii U OS afterward unless you do things in a very specific order.

That will likely come later as content providers (cable/satellite) are added. God I hope Bell gets on board with this.

I was able to add my Rogers box but I haven't been able to do anything in terms of controlling it. The Wii U lets me add two devices but it only ever brings up the controls for my TV. I'd like to be able to switch on the fly.

My manager buddy that works at a GS went to one of those wii-u events and he explained it to me today that major companies like comcast is a go on it and you do use it to control the DVR but wasn't told that you can actually watch the content on it, they were pretty vague about that stuff and said it drops next month.

I am actually quite excited to see how this stuff plays out.

I was thinking more in line with IPTV type stuff. Watching your movies/live tv/dvr'ed stuff on the gamepad. That plus all the online content of Netflix, Hulu Plus, Browser etc. I'm really surprised Nintendo is competing so strongly for the living room.
